hi
Ok
Samuel
The White Sox need a new owner that will hire a qualified PoBO who in turn will given at least 4 years to build an up-to-date MLB organization that teaches and plays smart, fundamental baseball.
Until then, shifting players managers and coaches around will just continue as it has for over a decade now.
toptimrubies
Entering today, they have the same amount of wins as the Cleveland Guardians in the last four seasons. You seem to like that team.
Samuel
toptimrubies;
There is no comparison to the success the Guardians have had as a team compared to the Sox….and they’re done it on a fraction of the payroll.

“As we wonder if Brandon Crawford is baseball’s next two-way star…”
Hold on, the Giants actually do have a Crawford that hopes to baseball’s next two-way star – last year’s 1st round pick, Reggie, down in A-ball. For realz.

The Cardinals’ “status” in the NL Central isn’t up in the air. They are last. They are last and not showing any signs of improving. The reality is, there is no one player or group of players whose absence would seriously change the trajectory of their season. Let the selloff begin. It’s just a shame that Mo will get the chance to call the shots.

People can’t get legit questions in, but you answer those bees/beads and “what do you like on hot dogs?” crap. Joke.
gbs42
Why so serious? Lots of “legit” questions get answered and asked. An occasional light-hearted moment doesn’t hurt anyone.
SweetBabyRayKingsThickThighs
You’re right, that bees and beads was the last straw! Ima go to the Fangraphs chat where they talk about tabletop games and what’s for dinner.
gbs42
Don’t forget FanGraphs cats, too.
drasco036
Although I do find the bees/beads in every chat annoying, people need to realize that the authors of these chats have above average knowledge on all 30 MLB teams but are experts on none.
A lot of questions get overlooked because they are too organizationally specific. With as knowledgeable as they are, do you really think they know an organizations 25th ranked prospect is? That’s why ridiculous trade questions get answered and thought out ones typically do not, because saying “the Yankees are not trading Dominguez” is easier than researching who an organizations top 5, 7 and 10th ranked prospects are and then weighing the packages.

I don’t understand the answer given to this question. The answer is the same as the question except, “why don’t you consider a cheaper player?” At least give a name or two?
If you don’t have any names, why pick this sort of question to answer?
Ace of Braves
9:27 Is their a struggling pitcher on a large contract the Braves could take a chance trading for to shore up the rotation. Cost would be less prospect wise taking on a larger salary.
Mark P
9:28 If you’re going to take a flier on a player, why not try to rejuvenate a “struggling” pitcher who comes at a much lower price tag?
drasco036
Thor. Another guy who probably wouldn’t break the bank (unless he keeps spinning gems like the other night) is Hendricks. I don’t know why the Braves luxury tax situation is or payroll limitations in general but those two names kind of jump off as affordable options prospect wise

A few years ago when there were a few people complaining about light-hearted non-baseball questions MLBTR did a poll during one (or several) chats. The overwhelming response was in favor of humor and light-heartedness.
I could be wrong but I have a feeling you would end up in the minority if a poll was taken again.

Mark. I hope you’re wrong about the O’s strategy as the season progresses. If they are playoff relevant, may Mr. Angelos be agreeable to spending some serious cash to get that #1 rotation piece plus an experienced backend SP needed for both making the playoffs and going deep once there.
The Royals are done. Greinke on the back end and/or spot starter.
By late July, if Mets are done, at least put a call in to Eppler about bulldog stud Max S.
You’ve got plenty of desirable talent that Elias is ready to unload on Mr. Angelos. Go get these playoff tested pitchers. Move!
Samuel
C Yards Jeff;
I don’t think you remotely understand what the Orioles are doing. I believe Mark does.
Mike Elias came from the Astros. They came out of their rebuild about the same time as the Cubs did theirs. The Cubs did what you want. They won a WS. Two years later they had a bloated payroll that could not be sustained in a large market, began stinking, and have ever since. The Astros believe in working with their players, as well as bringing in out of kilter players on the cheap that that they can work with to make them better than they ever were. Orioles are doing the same.
The Astros didn’t go out and pay retail for name players as the Cubs did, then not know what to do where they deteriorated. They’re contending for their 8th year in a row.

I told you last week that Bieber was not “pitching as a #4-5 starter” as he lost a few MPH on his fastball, but was having a normal stretch in a long season. Yesterday he pitched 7 shutout innings against the Astros – 9 K’s. The Guardians are not trading one of the top 10 starters in MLB for Ryan Mountcastle.

Mark Polishuk is by far the best writer on this site, and one of the best writing about MLB in the national baseball media today. He’s been far more accurate than the people on MLB Network, ESPN, Fox, etc. or any of the major publishing outlets. The reason is that he has great perspective. He doesn’t put his criteria on what the individual organizations – owners, FO’s, managers, coaches and players are doing; but rather reads what those organizations are trying to accomplish and how – then reports on how they’re coming along.

What you (and others) want the Orioles to do is not what they’ve done or are going to do. They’re playing in a small market and are not going to trade off potential productive (controlled, affordable) youngsters to try to win in the next 2 years anymore than the Rays have done the past 10-15 years.
C Yards Jeff
Agree to disagree Samuel. I feel Elias has put together enough talent to be able to trade some to get one year rental help like a Stroman or Max S. and win now. AND still have plenty of young controllable talent left to be competitive for years to come.
Kudos to Mr Angelos for listening to his consultants back in late 2018. The advice. Hire Mike Elias and don’t meddle in the baseball operation of your investment. Stay the course John!
drasco036
The Cubs have enough “good” players so the odds of them trading away a guy like Stroman for a “near” ML ready or “now” is unlikely. Cubs, IMO, would want a higher ceiling player like they got in Alcantara for Rizzo a few years back. Young, toolsy with high upside.
I guess what I’m thinking is the Cubs are not going to trade Stroman for a back of the rotation starter and no one is going to give up a ML ready middle of the rotation starter for him unless it’s an injured starter.
The Cubs “good is good enough” mindset backfired royally. They desperately need to middle of the order bats and two high leverage arms. Their rotation has been pretty solid outside of their rotating fifth starter. Wesneski needs to stick in the pen for the remainder of the season, possibly next. Give him the Jeff Samardjiza treatment, figure out your “stuff” in the pen while you work on your third offering, then get stretched out.
C Yards Jeff
Agreed. Only move Marcus if a league level proven talent is included in the deal. Tricky. Gotta find a partner trying to make a deep playoff run knowing fully well he opts out off season.
Same with Max S , if Mets are done by late July.
Os fan. Mountcastle? IMO, dude is done in Baltimore. Deeper left field wall is in his head. Needs change of scenery. Plenty of control, young, cheap. Better long term future option than Mervis at 1st?
1983 was last WS for my Birds. Mr Angelos. Rental scenario is worth it. Spend some money.
