The Reds have placed two players on the injured list in as many days, with outfielder Henry Ramos hitting the 10-day IL today due to a right hip strain. This move comes on the heels of Derek Law being placed on the 15-day IL yesterday (retroactive to May 17) with a sprain in his right elbow. Right-hander Alan Busenitz was called up from Triple-A to replace Law, while outfielder Will Benson was called up to take Ramos’ spot.
Cincinnati signed Ramos to a minor league deal in January, and brought Ramos up to the active roster near the end of April. This represented Ramos’ second look in the Show after he debuted with 18 games with the Diamondbacks in 2021, and he has matched that total with 18 more games for the Reds this year. Ramos has hit .242/.356/.306 over 73 plate appearances for the Reds, cooling off after a hot start that saw him collect nine hits and six runs in his first 26 PA.
The switch-hitting Ramos has played mostly as a right fielder and designated hitter this year. Between Ramos’ absence and TJ Friedl’s recent IL placement with an oblique strain, Cincinnati is a little short on outfield help, but Benson will get another chance to show what he can do at the MLB level. Benson has only a .370 OPS over 82 career PA with the Reds and Guardians, and the former 14th overall pick (for Cleveland in 2016) performed very well for the Guards’ Triple-A affiliate in 2021.
Law ranks second on the Reds with 20 appearances this season, delivering a quality 2.57 ERA despite a very high 14.3% walk rate. The Reds first signed Law to a minor league deal last August, and then non-tendered him during the offseason before re-signing him to another minors deal. Manager David Bell told the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith and other reporters that the “pretty good news” is that Law has seemingly avoided a serious injury, as the veteran righty has a relatively minor flexor mass strain and will be re-evaluated in 10 days.

The Guardians are still laughing at what they fleeced the Reds out of in a desperation move right before opening day on something they had all offseason to prepare for. Benson couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat.
Law on the other hand has been a good addition. The guy throws strikes and doesn’t allow many inherited runners to score, rare in that bullpen outside of Diaz.

Why would they be laughhing? Boyd and Hajjar have not yet played this year. Benson is back on the ML active roster. Perhaps he will perform better this time around. His job will be to play defense, see alot of pitches and work for walks.against rhp. We’ll see. As for Law, just par for the course from bullpen overuse. Hopefully gets some rest and back at it in a couple weeks.

Considering they are both second round picks, odds are within five years it will look worse. We’ll see.
As for bullpen overuse, I called that in the off-season when they didn’t bolster the starting staff and the bullpen. Now you have Lodolo hurt, Greene’s confidence going down the tubes until he learns how to pitch and a black hole after that. All the one run losses from a team going surprisingly well despite this, how easily done of them could have been turned around with a competent front office. I give the guys a lot of credit for their fighting spirit even with this going on.
titanic struggle
Greene didn’t struggle today, in fact, even though he gave up two longballs and left without a lead, it was one of his better performances this season. It’s ridiculous that some people expect a Nolan Ryan like start out of him every time he takes the mound..

One start does not make a season either. I was looking at the season as a whole so far. Hopefully he has turned a corner. Let’s see how the rest of the season goes.

Lmao, don’t listen to anything this moron says.
He’s wrong quite a bit, then when you call him out, he rambles in about irrelevant nonsense bc he doesn’t actually know much about baseball.

Reds short on outfielders but EDLC sitting in Louisville. No question he would make a fine centerfielder with his speed and throwing ability. Or put Senzel in CF and Elly at third. This line up needs more pop.
Tiger22matt
They aren’t putting Senzel back out in CF. The young guys will be up when the Reds are ready for them not when the fans are.
