Braves beat writer Mark Bowman reported ATL will call up Soroka on Mon for a Tues GS @ OAK.
Funny thinking any team would give up anything for Kimbrel, despite a handful of saves. 74 ERA+ as a closer?? Walks are up, 13 ER in 20 IP. 5.00+ ERA. He’s getting strikeouts but a lot of hard contact. Not including a bad track record as a setup man, if takes a step back. Not appealing for a contender.
I used to think Craig Kimbrel would be a easy HOF early in his career but if Billy Wagner who was better for longer isn’t in yet I have a lot of doubt for Kimbrel especially since he isn’t the same guy he once was.
Wagner had 422 saves. Kimbrel has 401. Both are HOFers in my book. Lee Smith is 3rd all time in saves with 478. He was the first to get to 400 saves. It took 17 years and the veterans committee to finally vote him in. Which is a damn shame. There’s no logical reason why Wagner should not have been voted it within the first 3-5 year of eligibility.
Lee Smith was also getting 2 and 3 inning saves before Mariano made it popular. Maybe someone has some dirt on Wagner. He’s like Fred McGriff. No reason to keep them out for so damn long.
Innings Pitched (yes I’m aware some innings were as a SP)
Lee Smith 1,289
Jeff Reardon 1,132
Bruce Sutter 1,042
Mariano Rivera 1,283
Trevor Hoffman 1,089
John Franco 1,245
Rollie Fingers 1,701
Rich Gossage 1,809
Off topic but I would like to congratulate David Ross, it takes some kind of talent to manage 5 losing streaks in 5 weeks! A tip of the hat to the guy who gets the least out of his talent.
While it’s possible the Guardians win the ALC in 2023, there’s no way they’ll be be able to play with any of the other AL playoff teams. They can’t hit LH pitching, and badly need 2 RH-hitting run producers.
So if they realize that 2023 is not a true contending year, they’ll want at least one controlled quality RH hitter, plus a young pitcher (doesn’t have to be top rated – they bring pitchers along well) or another strong RH bat.
The trouble trading with the O’s is that the O’s don’t have any middle of the order RH hitters with at least 4 years of control, and while I think the young O’s infielders are better than the Guards young inf’s, they’re not trading one of MLB’s top 10 starters for the some improvement in the infield.
The Cards offering Walker would get talks going. The problem is – do the Cards want to give up a 21 year-old with that ability to win the next 2 years? Other than Walker, I don’t see what potential impact player the Cardinals have to offer with 4 years of control left that’s worth 1-1/2 years of Bieber.
Think other teams will be in contact. The Rays would be a funny one. They take players from the Guards and get years of increased poduction out of them.

Ohtani to the Dodgers was be awful.
Fever Pitch Guy
Bjoe – Every chat the “where is Ohtani gonna go” question comes up and is answered the same.
What I’d like to know, when will there be official extension offers made and how much will they be. All-Star break?

Ohtani would be a savage in Yankees pinstripes.

Log – Here’s why Wagner hasn’t gotten in:

Billy Wagner 903

That makes it more impressive that he got 422 saves in way less innings.
WeggieJackson44
Not really
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
How not really. He got over 400 saves in more than 400 less innings than the innings Kimbrel and Lee Smith got the same amount.

No one forcing the issue on Mateo?! Westburg and Ortiz beg to differ.
