Anyone else notice that Knizner is hitting better than Contreras since they made the switch?
gbs42
That’s great to see, but it’s a week and a half of data versus several years of history saying Contreras is the better hitter.
DonOsbourne
Oh, no doubt. I’m not trying to say Knizner is going to be a better hitter than Contreras. No way. I am saying that now that Knizner has finally gotten regular playing time, he’s hitting better than expected. The downside is, he hasn’t done anything to lose playing time besides earn less money. He doesn’t hit enough to justify using as a DH, but he should continue to get regular playing time. He’s earned it.
RobblyDobs
Surely given there are 162 games in a season its extremely good news for the Cards that Kniz is (SSS alert) hinting me may be able to handle 60+ of those games when Contreras needs a break?

Why does mlbtr block me and force me to use a vpn?
vtadave
Probably a good reason.
jorge78
Maybe your screen name?
despicable_you
Are you serious!? It’s a stupid play-on words from the movie title “despicable me” (minions)
jorge78
Sorry, missed that one.
My bad…..

I’m sure you’re just an innocent bystander…

Mark didn’t understand my question about strand rate.
That was my fault.
I know I am responsible for the runners I allow on base but if a relief pitcher allows them to score, does that impact my strand rate? A bad bullpen could make me look bad (in the fantasy world where I am a big league pitcher-hey, it could happen! I just need to switch pods in the Matrix).
showmebb
If I understand his answer, Strand Rate is the percentage of runners you put on base left on base. The End. Matters not who let’s them in. In other words, I walk 3 guys and get pulled and the next guy gives up a bases clearing triple, that strand rate for me is zero in that situation.

A lower percentage of readers think Texas will make the playoffs than even Fangraphs? Those guys are obsessed with LA and Seattle. This is sad. In 2010, Texas was seen as an underdog. They said the same in 2011 and 2012. It’s like every time Texas wins, the NY-obsessed journalists call it luck, and when they don’t, it’s always them bragging they were right. I don’t understand why you have to be the Mets or Yankees to have guys fawn over you. The Mets are below 500, and yet they have all this hype. Texas even spends money now, but it’s like nothing they do will ever please the trolls writing for ESPN or the trolls in the comment section. I try to ignore national writers, but it’s still annoying. Remember the countless sources assuring everyone Texas will finish 4th? Petco was expecting a 79 win season and all. Inexcusable

Grom – I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the Rangers make the postseason on the back of Nate, provided he stays healthy.
And if I’m wrong, I’ll have better seats when I attend a 3-game series there in mid-September.

I wish I could have asked how much does Eduardo Rodriguez stand to make in free agency (should he opt out) and how likely would a re-sign and trade (without the opt out) be?
He’s already contracted to earn about $18 million a year through his age 33 season. Is he really worth more than that?
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Look what Bauer got after 1 short elite season. Even Semien got 18 MM on a 1 year deal after 1 awful year, following a great year. Conforto, Bellinger, and Carlos Rodon (1 good season in his whole career = 2/50 million) are other examples. I considered those deals to be idiotic, but this guy will get way more, even if he blows up the rest of the year. I guess upside is that valuable.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
Seems like every baseball pundit and comment jockey is certain Ohtani is going to the Dodgers. But don’t you think out of all the relevant teams, the Dodgers have the least need for him? Their starting rotation is stacked with depth options a plenty, down to the AA level. Dodgers batting is always robust enough. So wouldn’t Ohtani just be an expensive luxury bauble for them??? He would be the icing on top of an already delicious icing on top of their luxurious cake.
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
11 years and 525 is the most absurd prediction I have ever seen for any contract. I hope Ohtani doesn’t get that much, but I guess 3 straight healthy and elite seasons will get someone paid. His hitting as a DH may get hit 150-175 million, and pitching would be worth maybe another 150-200 million, but that’s an extremely hefty premium to pay. Even Trout gets way way less to put up a similar WAR. Even a premium for being a 2 way guy doesn’t get you to 525. It’s almost like his agents work for MLBTR and are trying to bloat his valuation.
