Why would the Giants trade a starter that they just signed to a 2 year deal for a SS when their top position player prospect is a SS (Luciano)?
vtadave
Because that would be highway robbery for them if they could pull it off. Also, Wood is only signed through 2023.

Putting aside the fact that it was a laughably unrealistic trade proposal, Luciano isn’t a long-term shortstop. He’s SF’s 2025 opening day left fielder.

For $400 million you Get a LF who Dances at Home Plate, who is a best a Average Hitter and a Outfeilder that is a Adventure when he is Hit a Flyball. HOW DID HE GET A GOLD GLOVE????
mlb1225
This has to be bait
gbs42
Soto is an average hitter, at best? Wow…
Old timer 78
CHECK HIS STATS since he Came from the Nats. Watch him Play every game, scary LF Defense. Don’t make your decision on Highlights.
mlb1225
Ok, I will admit his defense has always been spotty, but at best average hitter? Even with his mediocer second half, he had a 130 OPS+ with the Padres in 2022., and his lowest single-season OPS+ is 142 in 2019-2018.
Gwynning
In addition to mlb1225’s provided stats, Soto also saved a run and killed an inning with a nice catch in LF tonight… and smacked a solo shot to start the scoring against ATL… small sample size I suppose, but he would seem to settling in to LF just fine.

I was in the Crowd the night. Ray Krok told the SD Fans that he Would not except stupid Baseball. Iam Friar Faithfull. Look at the Facts Soto is Not Hitting his Weight, he is hitting .182 as of tonight. I hope that changes. He is not, a Complete MLB Player.

6:30 Corbin Burnes is my favorite player. I hate to say this but if we can get rid of Yelich by trading Burnes, we should make the trade
Simon Hampton
6:30 I think the haul of prospects Burnes would bring back is a better path to extending the Brewers’ window than using him to shed $26MM annually off the books. If the Brewers are willing to trade Burnes, they should maximize their return and keep Yelich out of it
–
I proposed this a month or two ago.
The Brewers are in a rebuild on the fly. They have a number of good young OF’s, and more in the high minors. Yelich is blocking them from playing time and will continue to do so. Add in that $26m a year is a large amount of salary for a small market team….especially for a player that’s going the team more harm than good. In its way the Yelich contact is on track to be almost as bad as the Orioles contract for Chris Davis.
If the Brewers trade Burnes – and they should – and attach Yelich, they’ll still come away with a few quality prospects. Averting the damage to that franchise with that contract over the next 6 seasons
is easily worth 2-3 quality prospects.
jorge78
You are exactly right. Include Yelich and all
the Brew Crew get
back is a thank you
note…..
Samuel
Nonsense.
Padres would be perfect to take on Burnes and Yelich. Their top prospect is SS Jackson Merrill (ranked in MLB’s top 20). Brewers will need a SS to replace Willy Adames in a year or two (Padres have Bogaerts for another 10 years or so). Maybe Brice Turang moves over, or maybe Merrill. The Brewers should also be able to get a pitcher or two – from the Padres minor league system and / or their bullpen.
The Padres owner wants to buy a championship and he doesn’t care about the cost….which he’s said (and done). He would take on Yelich and do the same thing he did with Hosmer – try to trade him for anything, if no one is interested DFA him and pay almost all of that salary.
P.S. I don’t think you have any grasp of how much Yelich will hurt the Brewers in the next 6 years.
jimbobsjorts
I don’t think you have any grasp of how much Yelich tanks the trade value of your proposal. You’re not getting Merril AND pitchers if you include Yelich. You might get that for Burnes alone.
Brewers should just trade Burnes and DFA Yelich.
Samuel
jimbobsjorts;
If the Brewers DFA Yelich they’ll still be responsible for his salary.
So much for your understanding of trade value.
And may I add….
People like you (and maybe even you) were on here for 2 years writing that there was no way the Padres would trade top prospects MacKenzie Gore and CJ Abrams….but they did…and for a guy that was going to be a FA within a few years.
Samuel
I love the Rays. They’re one team I’ve been following for years. But put their hot start into perspective…..
The 3 teams they’ve played so far are the Tigers, Nationals, and A’s. All in rebuilds, and possibly the 3 worst teams in MLB.
alwaysgo4two
Absolutely true, but as a Rays fan you know of their past history of not playing as well against bad teams. They’re taking advantage of what the schedule gave them.
Angels & NL West
Davies strained oblique tonight all but guarantees Bumgarner a little more leash. That said, Bumgarner has struggled mightily since last seasons All Star break. He consistently has all kinds of traffic on the bases, needs 90+ pitches to get thru 4+ innings and places a heavy burden on the BP.
One of Pfaadt, Walston, Henry or Cecconi will replace Davies in the rotation for now. The three that remain in AAA will continue to fine-tune their repertoires before one of them ultimately takes Bumgarners slot in the rotation.
