Sosa in CF versus lefties. Much better option than Kingery.

Kingery is always Babe Ruth in Spring Training. I doubt he makes the team.

Honestly can’t wait for Kingery to be on another team. It will be an interesting sidenote to see what happens.
They really messed up his swing, but well paid him for it. Hope he can carve out a career as a supersub after all this….
Too much baggage in Philly.
VonPurpleHayes
He just had a lot of bad luck. Apparently Covid really gave him lingering effects. Unrelated, but he had some eye sight trouble. I feel for the kid.

His swing was a big part of it too….from MLB.com………
“Somewhere along the way Kingery ditched an effective level swing for an uppercut one. It did not work. But Kingery spent this past offseason working 60-90 minutes a day, three or four times a week, with Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long at former big leaguer Luis Gonzalez’s home outside Phoenix.”
“Long revamped Kingery’s swing. He is more spread out in the box, utilizing his legs more. The swing is more level.”

Kingery got that new swing from an outside coach, FWIW.
Backup Catcher to the Backup Catcher
Right, Cat. One of these days MLB is gonna bag all this launch angle nonsense. Sure, fans do see more home runs, but at what expense? Regularly witnessing twenty combined strikeouts per game?
Back in the day, players didn’t strike out very much, but teams still scored as many runs as they do today. Fans want to see action, not batters walking back to the dugout with their bats after striking out. B-O-R-I-N-G!
Yeah, Chicks still dig the long ball, but the guy paying $75.00 and up for a ticket isn’t loving all the Ks. MLB might also do itself a big favor and move the fences back across the league. Home run have been cheapened.
Backup Catcher to the Backup Catcher
Von, you’re probably right about that. Might have been different had the Phillies not signed Harrison. Frankly, would like to see Kingery moved to another team who can let him play and give 250-300 at bats. That amount of PT ought to provide concrete clarity on whether or not Kingery is an MLB player or not.
I think he can be. Unfortunately, I don’t think his opportunity is ever gonna happen in Philly. I’d like to see him in Boston, Miami or San Francisco where he could play any number of infield or outfield spots.

@Von right? Been burned too many times by a good Kingery (or Franco)ST to put any trust in spring numbers ever again in my life.
