Wow!
The Royals are a team that doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be. Are they a rebuilding team? A fringe contender? A bad team with possible tradeable assets?
Bringing back Greinke and signing Lyles, Yarbrough, Chapman, Duffy, JBJ, and Reyes sort of has them all over the place
They’re still rebuilding clearly. All those guys you mentioned are tradeable if they preform well. Greinke is a name to put butts in seats. Not sure why you think they believe they’re fringe contenders.
I don’t believe they are fringe contenders but you look at some of their signings and they are not merely depth pieces
R Sox I think I get what you are saying; that the team has a lot of talent on paper and could sincerely be considered at least “in the running” to be a player come September; with a few more pieces, especially in the pitching department. Had they signed a Rodon and and a Taillon, for example (which certainly seems like it could have been attainable with their reported current payroll), we’d be talking about this team in a completely different light.
They are a talented young bunch, for sure, and I hope their front office doesn’t screw it up. Cause they should be fun to watch develop together over the next couple years
Should have traded off their 2015 core. Could likely be competitive right now.
Their coach will be the difference. What a terrific signing. Quatty will get more out of the players than they think they possess. A brilliant baseball mind with a penchant for instilling confidence in young ball players.
I expect them to improve by five games just by firing Matheny. If the new guy brings anything positive to the table it could be more. I really like Mike Matheny the person, but he is a BAD manager.
“Quatty?”
Yes, Matthew “Quatty” Quatraro. His hands will be full of rings before he is done.
They could surprise some people and get over .500 if their young players do well, in the AL central that gives them an outside chance!
Or they could have the worst record in baseball.
This is a sub 60 win club all season.
They needed starting pitching. They signed filler. Very disappointing.
