Sentiment has changed or the smaller size is smaller here compared to the above article.

“Who is more likely to win the division” and “which team will win more games” are two different questions and the responses speak to the Angels and Rangers having a wide range of outcomes. Plus, that first poll was held two months ago and both teams have made some additions
fwiw most projections have 2nd-4th in the west being a coin flip

They always overestimate the Angels, though. It’s a big city vs small city thing, I would say (to some extent).
User 781115931
I would say that’s more about perennial injuries and lack of depth than actual first-string talent level. It’s not true that Zips or FGDC projections have any large market bias baked in, they’re entirely stat-based. This isn’t some beat writer randomly choosing whatever win total he feels like
fox471 Dave
Anaheim a big city?
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Los Angeles (the place they falsely associate themselves with)
Unclemike1526
Well since baseball has cleared Clevinger of any wrongdoing we can get back to the fact it was a bad signing for baseball reasons. He hasn’t been good for awhile.
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
It also shows how you can get away with allegations of violence as long as sex isn’t involved. This is probably the first time Justice has really prevailed, though.
Unclemike1526
Yeah I never really bought into the spitting on the baby thing. That would take a special kind of low. But I’m glad he was cleared as a Sox fan. I just hope I’m wrong about the baseball part, The Sox need all the help they can get.
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Yeah. The child stuff is all I ever cared about. Adults make their choices and can just get out of the relationship in a way children can’t.
Rsox
Problem is we don’t know if any of it was real or just a bitter ex looking for a payday. Either way it’s over.
Clevinger doesn’t have to be better than a 5th starter because that is all the White Sox are expecting him to be
Unclemike1526
For 12 million bucks I think they’re expecting a little more. 8 million plus 4 million buyout.
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
It reminds me of how Liam’s contract was 4/54 but got reported as 3/54 with a 4th year option whose buyout equaled the contract price if he wasn’t traded. Besides, with Bauer, I don’t care even if it were legit because the stuff seemed to be initially initiated by the woman. It wasn’t out of the blue.
Rsox
Clevinger was 13-4 with an ERA under 3.00 as recently as 2019 so it’s not like the Phillies signing Arrieta to multiple years for $25 million per season
Rsox
With Bauer its probably less to do with whatever kinky stuff they were into and more to with the fact that he’s an outspoken dbag that teams probably don’t want to deal with
Unclemike1526
Alex Trebeck- ” You are correct”. I miss Alex. I won’t watch any of the D-Bags that host now. Sad
BobGibsonFan
Except when they have sex in ways we don’t agree with… Trevor Bauer.
BobGibsonFan
I was completely against the pitch clock… Now I love it. No shaking off of signs, no looks to the dugout for signs… this is great.
Portland Micro-Brewers
It’s none of the reasons why you guys have listed, Bauer was suspended because he made a big deal out of everyone using sticky stuff.
Manfred had to create a whole new system to check pitchers because Trevor opened his mouth. He did the same exact thing to another woman in Cinci or somewhere in Ohio if I remember correctly. It’s not one issue as much as all the problems he has created for the commish.
Can you imagine bringing negative media attention for cheating at work and then your boss has to create new enforcement rules to stop it. After all that Trevor ends up doing what he did and bringing more negative media attention. Manfred’s going to use this opportunity to teach Bauer a lesson
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Isn’t the media supposed to support whistle-blowers? I’d say PEDs, while slightly different from pitchers cheating, aren’t all that different. Nobody seems this mad about investigating PED use, yet pitchers seem to be held to a different standard that hitters. Idk why.
Unclemike1526
Yeah. 2023-2019= 4 years. I’d definitely call that awhile. What’s your definition of awhile?
Rsox
A shortened 2020 season and a second TJ surgery in 2021. He wasn’t terrible in ’22. I don’t think we’ve seen enough to say that he hasn’t been productive since 2019
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
@MoonMan I think you’re on to something about Manfred and Bauer. It’s the same reason I think the Astros got singled out to such a great extent: the cheating was so egregious & obvious (garbage can thumping on YouTube videos into eternity) that Manfred had to act, they forced his hand by embarrassing MLB to such a degree.
Fever Pitch Guy
Uncle – There is something very, very wrong when a person – usually a woman – can instantly obliterate a man’s reputation with false allegations, and even when she’s proven wrong she still faces no repercussions.
Look up Tawana Brawley or Crystal Mangum.
Doesn’t matter if the accused is proven not guilty, the stigma still remains.
People still associate the Duke Lacrosse team with committing the offense because there was a whole bunch of publicity and huge headlines when they were accused, but (as usual) far less publicity when they were cleared.
False accusers should be held accountable, always.
Fever Pitch Guy
Bob – The pitch clock does have it’s advantages, but I wouldn’t want a postseason game to end the way the Braves/Sox game did with Ball Four turning into an automatic strike and third out because the batter was late to the box.
Fever Pitch Guy
Rsox – Your definition of a 5th starter seems to be very different from most.
Guys don’t get $12M guaranteed to be a 5th starter.
Rsox
The way this off-season has gone they do. More to the point though is the White Sox front 4 of Cease, Giolito, Lynn and Kopech make Clevinger the 5th by default. And looking at Clevinger’s last 30 starts he is 10-9 with an ERA of 3.97 in 154 innings. That looks like solid 5th starter production to me
Fever Pitch Guy
Rsox – You think it’s common for 5th starters to have an ERA under 4?
Last year the co-5th starters for the Red Sox (Winck & Crawford) had ERA’s in the mid to upper 5’s.
2021 was Martin Perez 4.74 ERA
2019 was Eovaldi 5.99 ERA
Pick a team and chances are their #5 starter has an ERA well north of 4.
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Feminism protects false accusers, sadly. It’s victim blaming to hold them accountable. Stuff like this makes me wish I were gay. Oh well… it is what it is
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
@deGrom just don’t hook up with the crazy ones
Unclemike1526
You know I just have an outdated opinion on this I suppose but I agree that athletes just have to be careful what they do nowadays. Back in my day guys didn’t make enough money to be used as human ATM’s. Athletes have their share of groupies now as guys make millions. I’m going to sound like a Male Chauvinist and say that if a woman, Any woman, Gets hit or choked and doesn’t report it you have to look at it different now. Is she doing it to stay with the guy for money? Is she scared? Does she enjoy it( Can’t wrap my head around that one but I guess there are some)? Not that guys aren’t pigs but Ranger is right, It’s always the Guy’s fault until it isn’t. Everything leaves the room when there’s big money involved and that will never change I guess. I’d just agree with ignorant SOB, Watch out for the crazy ones.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
So “watching out for the crazy ones” can also mean “watching out for the vulnerable, confused ones” as well. Just because a woman is attractive and wants to sleep with you after one date doesn’t mean you just go for it. These professional baseball players need to keep this in mind; and that’s what Trevor Bauer failed to do. Just because the chick was up for rough, consensual sex doesn’t mean he should automatically think with his knob put a chaw of tobacco in & go to town.
Maybe some little twinkle of foresight should have sparkled in his pee-wee red-neck drug-addled brain that said: “Hey there big fella, maybe just because she’s throwing her body at you in a peculiar way and you just met her doesn’t mean YOU HAVE to have sex with her…dude, maybe she’s after your money or wants your baby so she will be set for life and won’t have to wait tables or drive Uber until she’s 65, in fact you should just call her an Uber right now and send her home.”
You know, like the responsible thing to do when you’re getting paid $25 million and you’re 32 years old and should know a few things by now by being around the block a time or two….but no, White Trash Trevor Bauer did White Trash things and used and abused a very confused and sad human being. He is a reject and deserves to go hang out with Lenny Dykstra, Curt Schilling, and play golf with OJ like other reject outcasts in life.
Ry.the.Stunner
*He hasn’t been healthy in a while.
He’s had all of one season since his TJ surgery. This last season prior to that was perfectly fine.
Unclemike1526
12 million for the W. Sox is like 25 million for another team. At 12 million I think Clevinger is making more than Kopech or Cease but I’m not sure. Haven’t looked. Looking at how they waited and waited for Andrus price to come down before signing him which filled a real need. For Hahn to toss that much of Jerry’s money around I hope it works out for him.
ohyeadam
Vandelay Industries hahahaha
SODOMOJO
Is everybody here ready for the Kelenic revenge tour!?! 2-3 today with a single off Woodruff and another dong off Devin Williams. Batting .412 with 4 homers
Who here should start the ass kissing off?? @BlueBaron?
Unclemike1526
Because he’s having a good SPRING? I’ll wait for the real AB’s for any of that. There is still plenty of doubt I’m sure.
SODOMOJO
Can’t help but be excited. He looks confident!
Fever Pitch Guy
Sodom – Since you care so much about ST stats, make the Bosox an offer for Mr. Spring aka Bobby Dalbec. Take him off their hands please.
SODOMOJO
Be careful with that hyperbole.
“Since you care so much about spring training stats.”
In this specific players case; it is exciting to see him have success both on paper; and visually with his body language. He looks different!
Alas, it’s still the “easy move” to dismiss a 23 year old having spring training success. Talks of his demise or being a bust have been greatly exaggerated. He is still a baby!
Meanwhile, Dalbec will be 28 this year.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
I certainly hope Bobby Dalbec comes back as well ! What a boost he would be for that lineup which doesn’t appear to have much thump right now. Yoshida may get on base like a mad man, but who will drive him in if they pitch around Devers?
Fever Pitch Guy
Sodom – It’s not success when it’s against opposing pitchers who are throwing nowhere near max effort and who are quite often experimenting with new pitches, new grips, new deliveries, etc.
Spring training is not about results, except for the small percentage who are fighting for a roster spot.
Fever Pitch Guy
Ignorant – Red Sox Nation shares your concern. I think it will take a strong season from the likes of JT, Casas, Verdugo etc … all of which is more likely than Dalbec becoming a ML hitter.
But I do hope Bobby can pull off the miracle.
RobM
I’d love to see him fulfill his promise, although I’m skeptical, even with a nice Spring so far. He’s played a full season at 147 games and 558 PAs, with a pretty ghastly slash line of .168/.251/.338. There is not much precedence for a great comeback with those numbers. I’ve had him on rostered on my fantasy team reserves the last couple seasons hoping for that breakout.
SODOMOJO
@RobM, I am skeptical too, truly. For all the reasons you just mentioned, and also because I’ve visibly observed his confidence dwindle over the past couple of years. Within a couple weeks of his original call up, you saw his confidence start to dwindle.
My big thing, is the amount of vitriol the kid has received, and ESPECIALLY here on this website that I’ve observed myself; guys just absolutely calling for his head… AT 23!?! Better stick a fork in em, huh? Lol
I hope he shoves it in all of his doubters faces this year! He was extremely nice to my girlfriend and I in the brief interaction we got with him in Tacoma last year, he totally won me over with his genuine humility.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
It’s hard not to feel excited for Kelenic , but being a Mariners fan I know I am susceptible to the “homer” with rose-colored glasses mentality ; but it would be sweet indeed if he can maintain this at any sort of clip. It would be a great story for baseball in general, I dunno.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
SODO, I saw him too in Tacoma and he was great with the kids, throwing foul balls back to them and even playing catch in between innings with them. He won a lot of fans for life that day I saw him, no matter what happens.
SODOMOJO

Great stuff from Chris young on JK
RobM
@SODOMOJ, I’m rooting for him. Just not sure I’m going to roster him again, which means he totally will have a big breakout season!
