As you may recall, MLBTR had a podcast that launched in October 2014 and ran for about a year and a half. It was hosted by the esteemed Jeff Todd, and we had a lot of fun.
We have decided to relaunch the MLB Trade Rumors podcast! This time, it will be hosted by Simon Hampton. In this 30-minute weekly show, Simon will bring on members of the MLBTR writing staff to analyze MLB transactions and to dig in on the sorts of topics we cover regularly on this site. We’ll be featuring some outside guests as well.
The show is not ready yet, because we need a producer. We’re seeking someone with experience as a podcast producer. This person will help us record the show, edit it, and put it on the various platforms. If you’re interested, please email us at mlbtrhelp@gmail.com and include your qualifications.
If you’re a podcast listener, we’d love your thoughts in the comments about what you’d like to hear (or not hear) in this show.
For Love of the Game
I have nothing to add professionally, but as an avid fan of baseball and MLBTR I’m looking forward to the additional content!

Is that what you put your pod in when it’s broken?
NatetheGr8
Love podcasts and MLBTR, so I can’t wait for the weekly pod. You should bring on guests who are involved in the MLB every once in a while to make it interesting and see a different perspective. You guys do such great work! Happy Wednesday!

Perhaps there could be a Q&A during the podcast, where more involved questions could be answered as a discussion. I think that could be interesting

I’ve been enjoying Lindor very much

The Dolans are glad 🙂

Nice. Hope you find someone worthy. Often found myself wishing you guys would do a podcast. I’d listen into a review/discussion on the previous days articles and maybe answer a few fan questions relating to those.

Love the idea of a MLBTR podcast!

Yea, I’ll listen

One thing I have realized as an avid podcast listener. If it isn’t at least an hour long, it’s not worth listening to. This is just my behavior. I don’t even start a podcast unless it’s 60 minutes.
Tim Dierkes
That’s interesting. Why do you feel that way? I’m probably the opposite, I’d be less likely to tune in the longer it is.
NickTheDev
I could not disagree more. I would much rather they do it twice a week at 15-20 minutes then 1 time at 60. Once you are an adult and have a family you don’t ever have 60 minutes at once for something like this.
EDIT – I realize now it says once a week 30 minutes, that works fine for me. Requiring it to be 60 minutes is silly, just rambling longer doesn’t make it better. That usually means they are covering a ton of different topics in one podcast instead. Better to break it up a little.

I’ve found that 40 to 50 minutes is my listening sweet spot.
foppert
I’m an everyday podcast guy. Depends on the content, but 30-40 min is my butter zone.
El Chupacabra
I agree; 30-40 minutes is the sweet spot.

I usually only do podcasts that are 15 min – length of my commute. During holidays when commute is another 20min then maybe I’ll check out a 30 min one. Just not my thing but I wish you guys the best.
rocket_roids_22
I would imagine most people like myself listen to podcasts in the background while doing other activities so depending on time of season 2 weekly 60 min podcasts would be reasonable. this site generates lots of material in text form so I have to imagine they can find enough material to fill said time. maybe even once a month or so do prospect talk.
thickiedon
I agree. I enjoy an in-depth lengthy podcast in the 2-3.5 hour range.
grittyshaker
That’s interesting. I tend to listen regardless but I enjoy 45-60 minute podcasts

A fantasy baseball segment would be nice
vtadave
I only listen to podcasts that are 5 minute or less per episode and run 3X a day 7 days a week.
Just kidding. I’ll listen regardless.
brucebochyisthemarlboroman
Tim I think the length is an issue. Like others stated there’s folks who can devote to 60 minutes and some who can’t. Why not do a Monday and Friday show at 30 minutes a piece? There would be enough action in season for that. Off season throttle back to 1 per week.
wesleyisme
I’m more likely to check out the podcast if there is a video version on YouTube as well. I rarely listen to podcasts thru itunes, spotify, etc.

I’d be interested in Big Hype Prospect segments. Would probably appeal to those who play fantasy baseball too. This is compounded by MLB.TV now including minor league games, so this could feed more interest in prospects too.

Wow.

Current regular of 3 baseball related podcasts. Here’s what I like.
Nothing Personal with David Samson. Apart from the man’s no BS style, the attraction there is the front office perspective on issues and team moves.
Giants Talk with Alex Pavlovic. Spends a lot time around the team so provides insightful interviews with players and Giants people. Generally giving first hand info and a balanced perspective.
Locked on Giants with Ben Kaspick. Big numbers guy. Does the work before presenting his opinion.
I don’t do the stats work myself, so I like the fact he explains it and does it for me.

Weekly podcasts will be great! Love hearing more about players who killed it if advanced metrics kinda downplay or really push it.
Texas Outlaw
I think 30 minutes is perfect. I think most of the guys here are busy dads like me and 30 minutes is a lifetime to us.

My podcast playlist is in desperate need of some baseball content as it currently only features MMA and F1. Looking forward to this!

Glad to hear you are bringing back the Podcast! I used to listen to the original pod years ago and was upset to see it end. Please do not limit it to just 30 minutes per week. As my #1 source for MLB news, I know you could do Podcasts of at least 30 minutes and probably 2-3 per week especially during the season. Thanks again for bringing it back and looking forward to seeing the post announcing the official relaunch!
