The Diamondbacks have re-signed infielder Jake Hager to a minor league deal, according to the MILB transaction log.
Hager, 30 in a week, slashed .240/.345/.280 for the Diamondbacks over 59 plate appearances last year. He spent the bulk of the year at Triple-A, where he picked up five home runs as part of a .261/.342/.391 line across 303 plate appearances. That was the second stint Hager had had with the Diamondbacks. After being claimed off waivers from the Mets, Arizona released him at the end of the 2021 season before bringing him back on a minor league deal.
Originally drafted 32nd overall by the Rays back in 2011, Hager toiled away in the minors for Tampa Bay, Milwaukee and Seattle before the Mets finally gave him his first taste of the majors in 2021. He didn’t hit much across a brief spell with the Mets and Diamondbacks in 2021, and all told Hager’s put together a .197/.307/.224 line across 89 career MLB plate appearances.
Hager came through the minors as a shortstop, but has bounced around the field in his short time in the majors, logging time at second, third and shortstop as well as both corner outfield spots. For the third-straight season, Hager will provide the Snakes with some infield depth in the upper minors.

i have 1 question.
Does he like his hat?
sampsonite168
He barely wrestles anymore so he shouldn’t have much problem doing both. He’s no Deion Sanders obviously but still cool to see a 2 sport athlete in this day and age.

The DDT was an awesome finishing move. Wonder what Ravishing Rick is doing these days?
StudWinfield
He’s deceased
StudWinfield
DDT was Jake the Snake Roberts
Yankee Clipper
Yeah, I thought Jake on the Snakes was the reference: “Jake the Snake.” My bad. Also didn’t know Rick Rude was dead. Man, way to bring a party down…..

Many years ago. The two from that generation who got the glory but we’re also underappreciated were Rude and Mr. Perfect, Curt Henning. Henning had one of the best standing drop kicks (three best in my view were Henning, Randy Orton and Sparky Plug/Hardcore Holly).

I always preferred the WCCW/NWA over the WWF. Felt the “hate” was more convincing. A lot of those guys never made it to their 50’s though.

I remember when Rick Rude appeared on episodes of Nitro and Raw on the same night. Was pretty surreal to see.

Abuse between PED use, painkillers to perform and recreational alcohol and other substances.
Yankee Clipper
Yeah, I just read online that he died in 1999, so at least it just happened and I’m not too far behind.

Growing up in CT, there are two deaths I always think about. Rick McGraw who died in the area and Jerry Allen who I literally grew up with. Neither were stats but both abused Roids. McGraw was shot but overly muscled and Allen’s name camu up in the McMahon trial. Very sad how wrestlers and others have to resort to such to get the edge trey feel they need.

Typos. Sorry. McGraw was not “shot”. Jerry Allen though was a small kid when I knew him..

Well-played, but slightly different Jake Hager. He should bring the soaring eagle with him to the snakes, though.

Dbacks fans certainly don’t want to see Hager called up to the majors, because it will mean something went horribly wrong health wise with several MI. Hager is, at best, 8th on the depth chart for any infield position.

My take on Hager? Horrible!
phenomenalajs
The former Met baseball player or the WWE/AEW pro wrestler or both?

I remember that “Hägar the Horrible” comic strip. I didn’t like it much but I remember it!
