Evidently, there’s no bottom with regard to Mike Clevinger.

The child part is pretty awful. I’m pretty sure they closed that thread for a reason, though.
jorge78
Is he the one who broke pandemic rules?
youngTank15
Who cares?
Bart Harley Jarvis
Apparently, someone.

If it turns out the Padres knew, I think this would look bad on the franchise. Also, closing the thread just means those of us who want to talk about it will find another place, like this
jaysfansince1977
The reason the comments were turned off was because MLBTR’s did a poll of reader’s and commentors and it was the consensus of a majority of MLBTR”s readers and commentors that such topics “not be” open for comments.
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
They did. However, they opened Bauer’s thread first and then closed it after removing comments they didn’t like. This was all after the poll, which I am aware of. They should have been consistent, but it’s better late than never.
kellin
Im aware of why they’ve done it, but it just means we direct our conversations elsewhere, anyway. We’ll talk about the topic wherever if we want..
jaysfansince1977
I am only clarifying for those who post on here “Why are comments turned off” It is not the site it is the choice of the majority!

They opened the comments on the Bauer threads for a while because people kept talking about it on other threads and they decided that if people were going to discuss it anyway it’s better that they contain the discussion to one thread.

According to an article on Bleacher Report both the Padres and MLB have known about the investigations since last summer. It seems the White Sox were clueless until he was signed. I’m sure they aren’t at all happy. It sounds bad but not horrible even if the allegations they listed are true.
DrDan75
Clevinger didn’t perform well at the end of the season or in the postseason. I think he was allowed to sign elsewhere for baseball reasons. It’s a little shocking. Regardless of his injuries or other challenges, Clevinger always seemed like a fairly nice guy. You just never know about people.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
Clevinger’s name goes back to the Bauer investigation. They shared the same girlfriend for awhile, the same one who started the proceedings on Bauer. So people should not have been completely surprised by this, and the White Sox didn’t do their due diligence, or didn’t care.
ChiSoxCity
Like it matters anyway. Clevinger is nothing but a piece of duct tape to this weak roster. They need position players who can be impactful, not pitching. So tired.
drasco036
My question is how were the White Sox not aware of the investigation that was opened up prior to his signing?
I can only imagine his agents reaction to the White Sox offer, “holy crap they don’t know! Mike mike! Mike! You have to sign this deal now and do your physical immediately”
ChiSoxCity
Tired of this overreaction stuff on the internet. Unless you’re privy something the rest of us outsiders don’t know, shut up with the blaming and shaming.
drasco036
It’s not an overreaction, at least my comment was not. Teams are not going to sign a guy who has a domestic violence investigation open on him, especially when it involves a child. Regardless of what is found or if charges are brought, Clevinger is going to face at least a 40 game suspension.

Not sure if anyone else asked about Moreno not selling the Angels. I did, but wondering if maybe the name I used was too graphic, so he chose to ignore it.
toptimrubies
If you are asking, then you probably know the answer.
kellin
I figured, but I was just curious to wonder if anyone else asked and the question was missed. I won’t say ignored, its not as if we know tons of questions get asked and dont get answered.

It seems odd to me to single out the Giants for not acquiring MAT. The Giants are in better shape in CF than a lot of other teams. CF is a real area of need for a bunch of teams. I mean Yaz and Slater are just adequate, but along with Conforto, and Haniger, taking away ABs from those 4 to give to MAT doesn’t make much sense to me.
