In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Just in case this is not selected, I wanted to say that the free agent prediction competition you guys have is great. However, it may make more sense to give out 2 points for predicting the top free agent, 1.98 for the second, and so on and so forth to weigh more important ones more. I see you guys base it first on overall accuracy and then on reverse points, but I think this system would make it more realistic, as top free agent predictions should get more emphasis. Other variations are also great, like 3 points for Judge and then a decrease by a certain increment for each subsequent level drop.

With one season in the books, how are Rangers fans feeling about Corey Seager?
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
He is much better than Semien and Gray in terms of worth. I can’t tell if this is trying to annoy me or just a genuine question. There are many overpaid guys, but Seager definitely won’t hamstring Texas, given their low payroll before they signed him, and they really needed offense. Now, that Semien money they blew could have gone to Freeman, Bryant, or Seiya Suzuki, but that’s a thing of the past. What they really need is a left fielder and Seager’s presence in the lineup provides protection to others and keeps the lineup going. MLB.com did analysis and said he would get 20 more singles without the shift, and I felt he was swinging for the fences more than before, so a better offense with Jung and ideally a real left fielder will take pressure off. He could hit .300/.400/.500. Even without that, he was 19 percent better than the average player in terms of OPS as a shortstop. Certainly could have been worse…

It was a genuine question. I am a lifelong Dodger fan. He was my favorite player during his time there. I was sad to see him go. Tremendously consistent player.

And his babip was inordinately low, especially since his hard hit rate was top 30 in mlb. His avg and OBP will be much higher this year, look for that bounceback there. And 90-33-83 in an off year is still very good. I think you’ll see closer to his 2020-21 years, which basically make him the best hitting ss in baseball with turner.

Everyone got Judge right.
It’s the more obscure ones that any guess is as good as the next.
Nothing wrong with 1 point for each correct answer. It beats determining who’s worth what ; 1 point or 3.

What are the chances that Blue Jays and the Marlins make a trade for a catcher. Or any other catcher needy teams make a deal with Toronto.
TheGreatBaseballMind
Cubs say no to Happ for Jansen or that would’ve “happ”ened already. That ” happ” just came to me as I was typing it out.

Hence, The Great Baseball Mind.

HA! You guys know I’m not that great. Just get lucky sometimes.

Ace of Braves with a good idea in the chat.

Actually, there should be bonus points for whomever guesses the FA that Heyman is going to inevitably screw up…. There’s usually a couple.

Many of are outperforming many of the writers here for the prediction contest. It looks like they should hire us instead.

The guy is utterly shameless. Everytime he botches something he doubles down and ups his story/breaking news output. Trying to get a new scoop to make up for the snafu 12hours prior. Yikes…
.
Clip, he reminds me of the reporter from the movie “Shattered Glass.”

It’s funny the guy with the name Batting .0000 and said he’d never give up, to which Mark answered its your lucky day…
EXCEPT
He still hasn’t had a question answered!! lol

That’s hilarious. Like an ultimate troll job

Oh no. The majority thinks the Mets signings on the rotation were astute. Hurry……. Change the subject.

I keep hearing ‘so far’ about trades. Keep in mind the MLB is doing everything in their power to get big markets to be playing in October. More playoff teams, more $, less players available, bigger salaries for free agents. Only 5-6 teams have money for the best players in the game. Sound fair to you?

dpsmith22;
This is the problem…..
The NBA gets pretty much the same number of people watching in its playoffs. If “superstars” play the ratings are better. But the city their teams plays in doesn’t matter.
The NFL doesn’t care about cities. Buffalo can play Green Bay and the ratings will be fantastic if their teams are superior.
It’s primarily due to the discrepancy in revenue. In the NBA and NFL all teams have pretty much the same amount of money to sign players as revenues are pretty much divided equally. So fans of all teams are involved in the playoffs as all teams are perceived as equal. In MLB at least 25% of the potential national audience knows that if their players are any good, they’ll leave in free agency or be traded just before they hit it. They tend to only watch the MLB playoffs if their team is involved. As for large market fans – they aren’t going to watch a Pittsburgh Pirates – Cleveland Guardians World Series….late night TV “comedians” would be joking about that. Once their team is eliminated fans of all markets lose interest in the MLB playoffs and immediately turn to following their NBA and NFL teams.
It’s been this way for decades. This is why we see the national baseball media dumping on the Red Sox and their GM for not being contenders – their employers need them in the playoffs because they’ve convinced fans around the country that the only MLB teams that count are the big market teams – particularly in NYC and Boston – which then continues the cycle so that when the name free agents sign they tend to go to the largest markets where their games will be televised more often during the season on the national broadcasts.
This “revenue sharing” thing for small markets in which their owners are attacked for “not trying to win” – just points out how bad the situation is. Would a guy like Trea Turner or Aaron Judge (this year) ever consider signing a multi-year contract with Tampa Bay, Milwaukee, Arizona, Miami if they’re getting some money in “revenue sharing”? Would it even pay their salaries, let alone bring in other players to support them? Heck, Correa got stuck in the Twin Cites last year so Scott Boras got him an opt-out to insure against a major injury. He ended the year healthy and scooted over to San Francisco even though their team stinks.

What do you mean by “less (fewer) players available?” If you are referring to pre-free agency contracts, every team big and small should be signing players to those.
And pretty much every team could be spending more than it is. It’s just a matter of how much profit the owner wants to make by being cheap versus investing in making the team better and earning profits that way.

“And pretty much every team could be spending more than it is.” – Source?
gbs42
Every team gets $65M in annual national TV revenue before local broadcast revenue, ticket/merchandise/parking/food/etc. I’m not Forbes, so I haven’t looked into every team’s finances in detail but no team loses money over any significant period of time, if ever.

Phoenix is the fifth largest city in America. Only New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston are more populated. Including AZ in “small market” conversations is just not a thing anymore.
We could sign anybody we want.
We just choose not to do so. Attendance is a reflection of that.
I wish it were not the case. Sucks for us “Day 1ers “
