Curly Is A Dumb Stooge
Do the Braves even want to bring back Swanson?
Rsox
They’ve at least touched base with him, whether or not they actually want him back mostly depends on if his contract demands have changed in their favor
honalieh
If I’m the Braves, I don’t want him on a long-term deal.

Agree

This mumbo jumbo about Braves trading Max Fried is all crazy talk, right?
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
ARRRGH +!! I am so let down by Mariners ownership, YET again. They told Jerry to cease and desist on any free agent signings. The projected Mariners payroll next season is hovering around $135 million. Everyone saw what the other teams are willing to spend to have a snowballs chance of making the postseason. I would think about $180 million is the floor on that speculation, with $200 million probably more realistic. That’s a mighty gap to close. Yikes. So Mariners ownership regressing to their miserly ways, why should I be surprised. Ho hum. I’ll go roast marshmallows and stare into my 40 of Olde E with my equally depressed Boston RS buddies.
Yet on a brighter note perhaps there’s possibility of standing pat until the summer trade deadline, maybe ownership will give the thumbs up on some expenditure like what happened last year.

not an M’s fan, but I really like both moves they made with Teoscar and Wong–very efficiently addressing two areas of need. May not be the sexiest names out there, but this was a savvy approach. And the rotation already has some quality arms at the top and depth options.

which free agent would make them arguably better?
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
@jk I wanted them to sign one of the big four shortstops, it seemed like that was the direction they were headed in at first but then the train got reversed suddenly. I like trade pick ups as well, just paranoid that it won’t be enough. We brought in Winker and Frazier last year via trade with high asprations and it didn’t go so hot. Definitely need one more bat.
jk
which free agent would make them arguably better? Giants signing Correa for that contract? Is he worth it? yes. The trouble is that I don’t think he improves the giants as much as he would have improved other teams. Does that make sense?
williemaysfield
I think it help the Giants sign other players so in the long run it help them tremendously. When Jason Worth signed with the nationals. It was a out of nowhere deal but the 1st step in the direction the team wanted to go

Here’s the thing, neither of those trades actually make the Mariners any better than last year. Teoscar Hernandez is seriously just a healthier Mitch Haniger, their career lines are almost identical. If you compare their seasons before they moved to Seattle, Kolten Wong had arguably a weaker year than Adam Frazier. Is there a chance that Kolten Wong ends up being better than Adam Frazier? Sure, but instead of shoring up ifs and maybes, the Mariners ownership is just counting on different ifs and maybes.
Mitch Haniger career line: .261/.335/.476
Teoscar Hernandez career line: .262/.319/.499
Adam Frazier the year before moving to Seattle: .305/.368/.411
Kolten Wong the year before moving to Seattle: .251/.339/.430
The Mariners were not able to catch the Astros last year, and no one can convince me that the moves they have made so far get them any closer to the Astros. It very much feels like ownership is treading water and hoping that breaking the playoff-less streak will get them a pass and they can save money.
