Dominic Smith would not be a target of the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland is looking for a complimentary 1B that can hit left-handed pitching. Smith does not fill that need. Smith is not a fit with the Guardians.
rct
imo, the only teams Dom will fit with are non-contending teams who can afford to give him a chance.
Rsox
The Rays and White Sox are probably the only possible contenders that may have interest in Smith (though the Padres, Giants, and Astros were all supposedly interested in Rizzo so it could be the LH bat that plays 1B that could spark their interest in Smith). The A’s, Nationals, Marlins, Cubs, and Tigers are all possible as well
Pete'sView
The Giants? Not at all. They already have a number of LH hitters who can play 1B who are much better than Dom Smith.

My question was answered!
I exist!
I know, I’m pathetic.
But I really did wonder about
Joc’s earning power…..
.
I am a fan of Joc Jorge so I’ll have to scour the chat and find your question.
aragon
I am not so sure if Judge is a very good fit at the Giants or Padres playing at pitchers parks.
.
A player like Judge is good enough to hit anywhere. Just my opinion.
Fever Pitch Guy
Trumbo – Agreed, he is strong enough to hit it out in any park and any conditions.
And for those who need stats as reinforcement, his career splits have him hitting just 10 more homeruns at home than on the road.
SAM’s
Yeah, he’s huge. Wonder if he was left handed if he could hit that “hit it here” sign at T-Mobile. Just above the glass there in right field.
aragon
We will see.
Jean Matrac
Oracle hasn’t been a pitcher’s park since the alterations. Over the last 3 seasons it has a park effect of 100, which is neutral, and tied for 10th in hitting with 4 other teams. It can’t be called hitter-friendly, but there are only 9 parks more hitter-friendly, and it is more hitter-friendly than 16 other parks.
Pete'sView
What’s more, if we’re talking about Judge (and one looks at his spray chart), he’d be a monster at Oracle (and in most parks).
aragon
My reply is late but it has park factor(by espn) of 0.968 on runs and 0.721 on home runs. so, the giants can sign him and have a very powerful doubles hitter who hit 20-30 home runs.
Jean Matrac
If that’s what ESPN has, then they differ greatly from BB Ref, and Statcast.
BB Ref has Oracle as 100 for hitting, and 99 for pitching for the last 3 years, and 99 for both for 2022.
Statcast has it at 100 for the last 3, and 102 for 2022.
Not sure what time span ESPN has. Alterations to the park in 2020 changed it significantly. If they’re including pre-2020 stats that would explain it. The difference between what Statcast has for 2020-22, which is again 100, versus what they have for 2017-19 which was 96, is a big difference.
As far as HRs go, yes, it’s not a HR park, but Statcast also had Judge as having 61 of his 64 HRs playing at Oracle.
Jean Matrac
I said “…of his 64 HRs…” when he actually hit 62, not 64.
aragon
it was 2022 number.
Jean Matrac
The thinking seems to be one season can be misleading. BB Ref used to do one season, but now uses 3 years by default. Even their single season numbers are only that during the offseason. If you look at the single season number during the season, it’s actually that season, plus the previous one. Statcast also defaults to 3 years.
The problem with using a single season is it can be affected by how a team is hitting that particular year. So if you have some of your best hitters injured, and others having a down season, it will influence the numbers toward more pitcher-friendly than it actually is.
aragon
2021-0.774, 2020-1.083, 2019-0.691, 2018-0.752, 2017-0.615. i get that statcast should be more accurate but there is a trend here that says number of home runs go down at the oracle.
Jean Matrac
I get it now that you’re talking HRs specifically, where the stats i provided are for hitting in general. Also, alterations to the park were made previous to the 2020 season, so anything 2019 and earlier are not reflective of how the park plays now.
Yeah, it’s still not an easy park for HRs, but it is decent overall, and very good for 2Bs (5th best), and 3Bs (4th best). The point being it no longer plays as a pitcher’s park. And again, with Judge, given his power, the stats show he can hit them out of most every park.
CuddyFox
I did not even post a question this time. My questions has not been answered for the past 2 months and I just say forget it. If some people post non-baseball questions, then I do not need to read it.
Fever Pitch Guy
Cuddy – Yeah I wasn’t gonna say anything, but since you brought it up … he selected 8 non-baseball messages, which is excessive IMO.
Personally I much prefer Steve’s chats, he is totally focused on baseball and his responses are much longer and more detailed than the short one-sentence responses we saw again tonight.
tedtheodorelogan
I miss Jeff Todd chats.
giantsphan12
I decided about a year ago to become a front office subscriber mainly because I have checked and read my MLBTR app about 5x per day (and this time of the offseason, 10x a day). And….my questions almost always get answered in the “MLBTR subscriber-only chats.” Anthony does a really nice job with those chats. Just sayin….
mike127
Cuddy–I am growing towards your sentiment. And, so this doesn’t come off the wrong way—Mark is by far the BEST of all the writers that chat. He’s very knowledgeable and doesn’t have a definite cut off time like many of the others have. It’s not even close.
However, to your statement, I am very weary of the non-baseball, non-sports stuff that goes in—OK I can get the occasional seasonal Thanksgiving pumpkin pie or apple pie guess—but someone called out the Bees/Beads thing has worn out its welcome and to randomly jump into the next line of movie quotes is just counterproductive.
From their side their eyeballs have to get blurry with so many questions and maybe answering a random unrelated post is the form of a break—but I wish they would not go off on too many tangents.
Pete'sView
Just did not understand—and learned to hate —the Bees/Beads. Hope never to see that crap again.
AverageCommenter
It’s sucks that someone is pointing a gun to your head making you read the chats
cpdpoet
Agree @AverageCommenter on the gun scenario. It is just weird that there are sooo many UnSubs all across the country with the same m/o…then again I am watching the Criminal minds monday on ION so “maybe, just maybe” I am overthinking this?
On a brighter note, Mark went for 2hrs and answered 83 questions, including the “hateful 8” someone pointed out (yeah during commercials I counted)
Everybody has and is entitled to their opinion, I for one don’t mind the odd questions. Remember the guys hosting these chats have anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand in these things…meaning they get tons of q’s and no doubt some NSFW ones, unintelligible ones and just plain bad q’s as well…
Some lateral movement should be allowed… GO MARK GO
As for getting a question answered, some chats I get none, some I get a couple. These guys are doing it rapid fire style…. I ask q’s that allow for semi-short specific answers and yup am also guilty of asking off topic ones…Charlie Brown specials, movies etc and I have had a few of them answered as well……
Fever Pitch Guy
poet – My favorite part of your post is when you wrote “Everybody has and is entitled to their opinion”. Thank you.
cpdpoet
FPG, been on this site for quite some time. Your posts have been solid and well thought out.
We’ll never meet, but when I see your name, I think gentleman….Then I read your post…
Fever Pitch Guy
poet – I really appreciate the kind words. Sometimes I let emotions get the best of me, but I am always trying to improve my game and feedback such as yours motivates me to do so.

Angels & NL West
If we refer to the LA Angels as Anaheim, should we refer to the NY Jets and Giants as East Rutherford? How about the Dallas Cowboys? Should they be referred to as Arlington?
avenger65
What about the chargers and the rams? Are they really both in L.A.?
mookiesboy
anti- Mets. 100%
PhanaticDuck26
boo hoo … he’s a Blue Jays fan so I’m not sure why ‘hating the mets’ would be a guiding force in his life. You think he wakes up angry about what, the Thor trade? Get over yourself.
Sid Bream Speed Demon
Another fragile Mets fan.
flamingbagofpoop
Why do so many fans incorrectly blame the GM for not signing/extending very expensive players? I’d be shocked if any GM has the freedom to just hand out a $300m contract without ownership consent.
avenger65
And that’s the problem. GMs and head of bb operations – are the ones with the knowledge of how valuable a player is to their team. The owners just know what they see on their TV.If they want someone even though the ask is ridiculous, they tell their gm or bb ops guy to get him no matter what the cost. At the same time, the potential adds to the team or FAs aren’t given the money they deserve because the money went elsewhere or the owner has it and won’t pay it to keep a contending team in place. Are you listening, Jerry (reinsdorf, not Dipoto)?
drasco036
Unfortunately, teams still have to operate within a budget.
Just wait until the rangers, who spent like drunken sailors, have to budget when their players hit arbitration… sure they have payroll flexibility to sign Seager, Gray, Semien and drop a QO on Perez now… go crazy and sign either deGrom or Verlander but at the moment none of their young players are arbitration eligible… once that hits their payroll is going to be completely out of whack and they will end up like the White Sox, having a flawed team and no money to address needs from outside the organization.
