Congrats to the Phillies! Storybook season.

Not that the Yanks can’t channel the 04 Rsox, but I see Philly taking it from Hou in 5…Maybe 6.
DonOsbourne
I will be cheering for the Phillies, but if I had to bet, I’d take the Astros. Houston is a well oiled machine.

Guess everyone who said that Bryce Harper is an issue in the clubhouse and that no team with him on it will ever win anything was wrong.
.
I’m hearing Vegas has the Astros at 2-1 favorites over Philadelphia if that is indeed the match up….Yet only +125 on Philly….What the he11 is going on here?!?!??
Holy Cow!
It’s about balancing the betting money on both sides so that they make a profit on either outcome.
.
I figured the same Donny..What a racket!!!! Haha

“Rizzo has spoken about his dissatisfaction with the team’s developmental system as a whole, and we’ve seen a lot of overhaul in the Nats front office and scouting ranks in the last year or so.”
That’s sort of self-serving and it’s an argument for the new owners to bring in another PoBO.
1. He’s been overseeing their Baseball Ops area title-wise since 2013, and held the title of GM since 2009.
2. The Nationals have had major problems keeping their major league pitchers tuned for more than a year or so for over 10 years. The last 5-7 years has been ridiculous. When they were contending every year Rizzo had to trade for back-end relief pitchers in-season because the ones the manager was using were guys that should have been coming into the game earlier. Max Schurzer was the exception that proves the rule.

It’s going to be a rough next couple of years in Washington. The Braves have a solid core locked up. The Phillies are in the World Series and no reason to believe that they won’t contend again next season. The Mets will at the very least spend like drunken sailors on shore leave and the Marlins with all of that good young pitching has to turn a corner at some point.
OKBaseballFan
I believe in the Phillies. If they could take 1 of 3 against the Stros’ in the last three games of the season with only game 2 (the one after clinching a playoff spot) being a non-competitive game, I think they can do what they’ve been doing recently. Splitting the first two away, then coming back home and getting the win(s) in front of the hometown fans. I believe!
Sabean Wannabe
LOL Padres!

I don’t care for A.J. Preller.
But that team had a great year.

Why not just move Story to shortstop? Or sign a stopgap while they wait for Marcelo Mayer?
drasco036
Honestly, because Story played an elite level defense at second base and not all short stops can transition like that. With the anti-shift rules it would be wise to keep him at second if you can fill shortstop.
I was never sold on Story in Boston, I don’t think his offense will carry over, it certainly didn’t last season. If he loses a step at shortstop defensively then that contract is going to be a massive pain in the rear.

I have a feeling Rizzo will step down if there is a sale of the team. New ownership could lead to cleaning house and many people let go.

Polishuk had reasonable takes on the Nats’ immediate future, but he should be aware that MLB awarded the MASN structure to the Orioles in perpetuity. It stipulates that the O’s retain majority ownership of the RSN, with the Nats’ stake only increasing to 33% over time.
As majority owners of MASN, the O’s have not run it very well for either team, which hampers their promotion, and also have not even lived up its onerous terms.. Arbitrators have ruled they are already in arrears to the tune of about $105 million and counting.
