Where is Curly these days? Anyone done a welfare check on him?

Patrick Corbin is having the anti-Triple Crown for pitchers. Corbin has the league’s worst ERA (6.08). He also has given up the most hits (200 in 149 innings), and he also leads the league in losses (18).
Samuel
The Nationals and Royals are very poor working with pitchers. Only a Max Schurzer has succeeded in the past 15 or so years for any length of time – and I believe that’s due to their coaching staff leaving him pretty much alone.
If Mr. Corbin can get to a good pitching team he may well be reworked into becoming a decent MLB pitcher again, although not upper echelon. Maybe what people would categorize as a low #3 – high #4 starter.
The problem is that he’s due about $50m the next 2 years (stating at age 33). Teams aren’t going to take that salary on to attempt to rehap a guy, let alone trade anything of value for him. The Nationals would have to eat about half the salary and settle for a low return. Since the only thing they might be competing for is to stay out of last place, it’s just as well as they send him out there to eat 150-170 innings a year.
Sad what happened with him professionally, but the man and his family are set for life financially for 2 generations.
Yet another example for FO’s to stay away from long-term contracts. For each one that succeeds to any degree, there are multiple ones like this that tie the hands of a FO for years.

Pitcher losses mean nothing.

If you’re starting every 5 games and have a 6.00 ERA they are.
Deleted Userr
Nope. Not even then. It is possible to pitch every 5th day, pitch well and go 6-18. In fact it has happened plenty of times. No one has ever pitched every 5th day, pitched well and had a 6.00 ERA.

Always begging for money at the end of these chats I see. Why pay money here when if you were going to spend money the athletic is a million times better with writers who actually proofread their articles
Samuel
Most of what they write is using stats to make the arguments agents would make in arbitration or salary negotiations. The writer can argue good, bad, or both depending what they select.
It is the best site on the Internet for keeping fans up to date daily with transactions and considerations for possible future transactions. Since MLB teams with 26-28 person rosters typically use over 30 pitchers and 24 position players a year, it’s both value and perspective that you won’t find anywhere else. In fact, a fan may learn more about the considerations their local team had/has is making the moves they are/might from this national site than from any of their local sports media outlets.

Clown comment Latino Heat….It’s just the way all chats end so new users are informed…
Latino Heat
Oh look another crybaby. Go enjoy your whaaa burger and French cry’s

They are two completely different sites. This site is mostly for moves and rumors, and analysis and chats are just extra. The Athletic is for if you want that in depth analysis. Also, a business has to ask for money to survive.
Latino Heat
Perhaps they should get real writers if they want to beg for money then. Only dummy’s pay for things written by the likes of Zach links

The Cubs “home grown” pitching is giving Chicago fans reason for hope…
Justin Steele… the guy has been absolutely dominate in the second half of the season… 0.98 era while showing a bulldog mentality on the mound.
Keegan Thompson… dominate early on until fatigue caught up with him, came back from the IL and didn’t miss a beat and he has the swagger and confidence of a rock icon.
Mike Wesneski… thank you New York! This guys slider is one of the most ridiculous pitches you’ll see and he is pounding the bottom of the strike zone with it.
Sprinkle in the return of Alzolay and Big Ben Brown in AAA.
The Cubs for the first time in a long time seem to have figured out their pitching woes and have been able to get high returns on investments (Smyly, Robertson, Givens) solid marks on a journeyman player like Sampson and home grown arms in the rotation and pen.
If Canario and Mervis are “real”, power arms, power bats coming up… Cubs are going to be dangerous with money to spare.
