The Rockies have placed Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, per a team announcement. Infielder Alan Trejo has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in his place.
It’s already the third IL trip of the year for Bryant, who inked a seven-year, $182MM contract with the Rockies over the winter. The first season of that contract clearly hasn’t gone as hoped, although it’s worth pointing out that since returning from his second IL stint due to a back injury, Bryant has been on an absolute tear at the plate. Through his first 17 games with Colorado, the former NL Rookie of the Year and MVP hit .270/.342/.333 without a home run. Since returning from his back troubles, however, Bryant has raked to the tune of a .330/.398/.567 clip with five home runs and eight doubles in 108 trips to the plate.
That production is more in line with what owner Dick Monfort and general manager Bill Schmidt had in mind when signing Bryant to that massive free-agent contract, but there’s no getting around the disappointment in a trio of IL trips before the trade deadline has even arrived. That’s now seven trips to the injured list for Bryant since the 2018 season. In addition to the back strain that twice shelved him this year and this new bout with plantar fasciitis, Bryant has missed time due to a sprained finger and multiple shoulder strains. Dating back to the 2018 season, Bryant has played in just 469 of the 649 games played by his teams (72.2%).
Plantar fasciitis? Seriously? I have that and play softball every week.
Playing professional baseball is a little different than a bunch of overweight dudes playing softball and chugging beers
That’s bad. McGwire lost almost two years to plantar fasciitis. We’ll see how serious of a case.
Pujols too IIRC.
And I’m sure you’re playing softball against elite competition… pick up softball games…. Mlb… pretty much the same thing.
you must be in a wheelchair because if you have plantar fasciitis there’s no way you’re walking around and running I was out of work for 4 weeks with it so it’s nothing to laugh at
I’m guessing you have a job where you are on your feet a lot. I get missing that.
Side note all this talk about PF has made my feet hurt. Lol
I still can’t believe the Rockies were dumb enough to give him that deal. They don’t even know how to lose correctly.
That’s nothing bro I got monkey pox and I still party every night
…and one day you will hurt it and it will take several months before you can even walk without limping.
Probably sarcasm, but if not a bit of research shows the varying severity of plantar fasciitis. Thanks to getting it in both feet I got to see that difference first hand (foot?).
Hey, this isn’t a trade! You’re clogging up the hot stove.
Is it a hot stove during the season? Should we put a moratorium on the phrase until November? Let’s take a poll.
I am 100% with you Donny.
Hot stove = winter trade market
Hot grill!
I kinda like that.
At least he gets to rest in October for the remainder of his contract
I’m sure eventually baseball will expand their playoffs to 28 teams and the Rockies will squeak in.
Watching him play left field this weekend, he looked to be in significant discomfort.
Here we go again. Is this his 2nd or 3rd trip to the IL already?
3rd
Hmmm. Look what happened with the Astros when they tore it down and built it back up and a lot of that through their farm. They’ve become yearly powerhouses ever since. The poor Mariners finally did the same thing and are on the cusp of being a real contender next year (and they are currently tied for the second AL wildcard). But you want to watch the once great Rockies wither year after year? That Bryant contract was one of the most foolish trades in the off-season. That’s not a move you make when you’re a distant 3rd or 4th in the division team.
Kris Bryant is hurt AGAIN?
I watched the game yesterday and was stunned he was in the lineup. I was like, “I can’t believe he’s not hurt or being rested!” Magically he hits the IL the next day.
Sounds like a devastating career ending injury… Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
I’m starting to think that that was an unwise contract.
The Rockies are the dumbest organization in baseball, possibly the dumbest in all of professional sports.
And yet the fans still support poorly run teams. Fans need to stop supporting poorly run teams.
But the fans get to see good teams play against the Rockies.
Touché!
Agree, they are rolling in the bucks. This makes regular fans attending games almost as dumb as the Yugo management.
And other fans need to stop telling everyone else what to do as if they know everything and can’t possibly be wrong. I am a PROUD Rockies fan and I will continue to be whether they win 100 games a season or 40 games a season AS LONG AS THEY TRY TO WIN. I wouldn’t be caught dead a fan of the Marlins, Astros, Cubs, Reds, Orioles, Tigers, or any other team that has intentionally broken down their roster in order to win in the future. I find that far more offensive than a few “bad” contracts dished out by Colorado or a few missed trades.
Hiflew chooses perpetual mediocrity over long term competitiveness. Maybe fans like you are the problem
40 wins a season is not based on a team that wants to win. Losing players like DJ, Tulo, Arenado and Story is just like what you mentioned with the teams in your statement. I bleed purple too, but the FO is still not aggressive enough.
You poor guy. You’re a victim of abuse and you LOVE it. The Rockies aren’t trying to win. I don’t know what they’re doing, and neither does anyone else, but they’re definitely not trying to win.
As long as they TRY! It’s not surprising that you’re a participation trophy kind of person.
My prediction is proving to be correct. Mr Feels is going to spend more time on the IL than the active roster.
Just another BUST MOVE by the dumbest owner in baseball
He was smart enough to make enough money to purchase a professional sports franchise. I’d trade lives with him in a heartbeat.
Every other baseball owner was able to own a baseball team too, hiflew. Yep it is’ statement still looks accurate. Personally I think it’s the Rockies fans who are the dumb ones. They continue to allow this clown show by showing up and tuning in.
His posts are just straight cope. I hope he’s like 14, I’d be concerned if an adult acted that way.
Actually it was their father who was smart enough to make the fortune.
I like Bryant, but glad my team didn’t overpay for a guy that’s only played in 40% of the games.
Kris Bryant suffering from albatross-ciitis
Bryant should schedule an appointment with Dr. Joe Maddon who, in addition to inventing baseball, is also an expert on plantar fasciitis.
Or he can ask Carl Carlson for tips on how to manage it. I hear that dude tears up the beer leagues
That guy’s hardcore!
But somehow the Giants were dumb for not meeting his asking price
Sources indicate it may be more serious than planter fascitis. Rockies executives fear he strained an ear lobe on his way to the beauty salon for his weekly manicure.
By the end of this contract Bryant will have hurt every part of his body.
The second coming of Evel Knievel!
Sorry man. Hell’eva ball player hope he gets better.
In the end; looks like self entitlement got the best of Kris.
Boras really suckered them. I was thinking 18×5 90m He got double that. All for a guy that will spend more time on the DL than on the field.
SF knew what they were doing from signing him to that type of contract
As grateful as I am for his years as a Cub he will never be the player everyone thought he “might” be. He is way too fragile.
KB = not an alpha mentality (he racks up stats and takes when the heat is off), and he’s made of glass.
Cubs fan here…..what else is new? lol. Rockies fans have my DEEPEST sympathies. It’s gonna be a VERY long 7 years.
Cubs fan here….KB to the injured list? What else is new? Lol. Rockies fans have my DEEPEST sympathies. It’s gonna be a VERY long 7 years. This is like our version of the Jason Heyward contract.
Say what you will, plantar can be a significant issue. I had it when I was younger, playing tennis and running. It really hurt. I finally figured out that the only way to heal it was by staying off of the foot as much as possible. Took months.
That said, a solid investigation of Kris’s career would have shown that he didn’t warrant this kind of contract, especially in the context of the recent personnel moves by the Rox. Too much owner weighting?
Another Tulo.
