You Can Put It In The Books
Is Bryce Harper hurt yet?
cpdpoet
Hopefully the institute you are locked up in as a maniacal hater, will have enough fore site to separate you from the regular populace when Harper is inducted into the HOF a couple decades from now…Either way, will try to send you a nice ice-cream cake….
VonPurpleHayes
His bat has hurt baseballs in the last 2 games.
cpdpoet
Philly-centric type question, but I have asked it in 2/3’s of the last chats I’ve been able to be in…over the past 2 weeks:
Have my own ideas….But what would a Thor extension look like? Guy seems to have turned the corner here…am a 45yr fan…just curious of what the non-Thor fan thinks…
User 401527550
His fastball is down. I would only give him 2/30 but teams will go higher hoping that fastball returns.
AverageCommenter
I’ve seen him pitch once, but I’d personally give him 4/45. I think he’s a solid mid rotation guy, but not an ace anymore
VonPurpleHayes
He’s a different type of pitcher these days. More contact. Less velocity. But he’s smarter about his pitch selection. I think he’s a solid 4-5. Maybe even a 3 on a lot of teams. He likely doesn’t make the Phillies playoff rotation if they make it. 2/30 seems fair, but Thor’s name always carried more weight than his ability…so who knows.
DarkSide830
My hope would be 2-3 years at ~13-14 per. Gives him a nice payout but also provides some possible upside for the club.
Hello, Newman
Jo Adell for Casey Mize, and the Angels say no??
Lol.. lol
Rollie's Mustache
I imagine the Angels would want someone in return for Adell who can contribute in 2023. Mize will miss most if not all of it recovering from TJS.
DarkSide830
Passing on Mize because he’s not going to pitch in 2023 would be a firable offense for any GM.
Rollie's Mustache
Why would the GM of a contending team trade a young player and in return get zero value for a full season? That would be more of a fireable offense.
Also, Mize isn’t a guaranteed ace or anything when he returns. He has a K/9 of barely 7 and a 4.29 ERA and 4.95 FIP in 39 career starts. I think that’s fair value for someone like Adell, but I just don’t see this as a fit for Anaheim.
Rsox
Who’s the “contending team”?
Rollie's Mustache
@Rsox Yeah, a better descriptor would’ve been “attempting to contend” because the Angels have been failing miserably.
But phrased differently, Mize still doesn’t fit a team that hopes and is trying to win in 2023.
But maybe the new owner changes course. Who knows.
Rsox
Honestly trading Mize for Adell would signal both teams losing confidence in each player. I think it’s too soon for either team to give up on either player but yes if the Angels wanted to punt on next season then they should absolutely say yes in a scenario like this
Hello, Newman
Because zero value for 1 year, is better than negative value. The Tigers have the worst offensive stats in nearly every column. Adell would bring those stats down further.
I’m not saying Adell doesn’t have potential. A change of scenery, could be huge for him. But, if he brings to the Tigers what he has the last 3 years; and if Mize keeps his pace- No way should they be listed on the same trade ballot.
Hello, Newman
If trading for a pitcher who will be sitting a year out, is a fire-able offense.. Girsch and Dipoto should have been gone a couple years ago.
I would have to imagine, amongst many others.

Question about Managers; i agree the Brewers are not going to fire Counsell. I’m not sure on Baldelli, it could really go either way with him. LaRussa could definitely step down and move to the front office. Mattingly is probably done in Miami. Schneider has done well turning the Blue Jays around but you could be right if they somehow miss the playoffs or exit early.
Others in questionable positions:
The interims
Phil Nevin is not likely keeping the Angels job beyond this season as they have been just as awful under him as they were under Maddon
Tony Beasley I’m not sure as its really hard to gauge but i would expect the Rangers to interview others
Rob Thomson is the most likely to return as he has gotten the Phillies into the postseason picture
The rest:
Dave Martinez, David Ross, Torey Lovullo, Bud Black, Dusty Baker, and Terry Francona are all on expiring contracts.
Could be as many as half the teams in the league playing managerial musical chairs this winter
Holy Cow!
Ross was extended.
Francona has a job in Cleveland for as long as he wants.
Rsox
Was unaware of or just plain forgot about the Ross extension.
True Francona has pretty much an open invitation for as long as he wants it but his contract is still up at years end hence his inclusion.
Fever Pitch Guy
Rsox – I wish Cora was included in your list, but I agree with him not because this was a punt year for Henry.
When and if they do decide to GFIN in 2023 or 2024, I think Bloom will scapegoat Cora like Daniels did with Woodward. .
Rsox
Yeah, i think Cora avoids the hot seat this year. However, next season he will have to produce results because so far his track record isn’t much better than John Farrell’s.
That said i hope someone hires Will Venable just so he’s not around as a possible replacement for Cora when the time comes

Rodriguez has a 4.3 WAR this year compared to Witts .6. Witt is not in the conversation with him for ROY.
1984wasntamanual
Fangraphs has them closer – regardless I’d give it to Adley before either of them. Better wRC+ than JRod and he is a good defensive catcher.
LordD99
Any player who signs a $210-470M deal during his rookie season is RoY!
Gibson's Homer
How can the Blue Jays lose all 3 games to the Angels? And get shut out twice?
gbs42
Pretty much anything can happen in three games. The Pirates swept the Dodgers earlier this season.
Gibson's Homer
I don’t remember the Dodgers-Pirates series, but the Blue Jays scored 3 total runs in 3 games against the Angels. No major injured players missing out of Toronto’s lineup which did not score at all in 2 of the 3 games. Toronto seems to be falling into mediocrity at the wrong time.
