The Angels have claimed Rob Zastryzny off waivers from the Mets, and the left-hander has been optioned to Triple-A. New York designated Zastryzny for assignment earlier this week.
The Mets signed Zastryzny to a minors contract in May, and he made a single appearance for the Mets (tossing one inning in the Mets’ 4-1 loss to the Phillies last Sunday) before being designated for assignment. While a brief stint, it was surely a welcome return to the bigs for Zastryzny, whose last MLB appearance came with the Cubs back in 2018. The left-hander tossed 34 2/3 innings for Chicago in 2016-18 before bouncing around to multiple teams and eventually landing his next chance at the Show.
Zastryzny spent 2019 in the Dodgers farm system, and he’ll now head back to SoCal for an opportunity with Los Angeles’ other team. He’ll provide the Halos with some relief depth in the minors, and with Jose Quijada increasingly getting some save chances, there could be room for the Angels to call up Zastryzny for more of a traditional lefty relief role.

I’m not sure why the Mets brought him, Fisher, and Clay up to the majors, only to have them all pitch one game and get DFA’ed. All lefties and none of them given any chance to show they could stick. Realistically, none are great, but the only lefty in the pen practically all season has been Joely Rodriguez, who is also terrible.

This is what sucks about baseball. Too many roster moves.

One of the many things that suck about baseball.
5toolMVP
Why are you crying about roster moves? There’s no crying in baseball!!!!
Cosmo2
Probably a roster crunch thing where they really just needed to rest their main guys. That was the purpose of the guys who got let go all along.
oi0ewt98er
This is the move they needed to turn the season around.
.
This was definitely the big one they were looking for. Halo Fans rejoice. If only we can get Naughty Packy back to be our ace.

Angels love to get pitchers that leave the Mets. They probably don’t even have a scouting report on this guy.
.
Does anyone know if most scouts are under contract/can’t get poached? As an Angel fan, we could sure use some Dodger scouts..
User 401527550
I don’t think the Angels will pay what their getting from the Dodgers.
.
That’s part of what I’m getting at…So little info on scouts..pay ranges etc…I have no idea if teams carry a similar amount of scouts…if some are paid considerably more..Would love sometime to do an expose on the scouting world.
User 401527550
I would watch that.

Forget the Dodgers, they have money galore. Angels should check with the Rays, Royals & A’s scouting departments. Small market teams who continually have competitive teams, and seem to have an unlimited supply of quality players.
.
Yes sir…Rays 100% If the lowest payroll team can take one of the highest payroll teams (Dodgers) to the brink of game 7 in the World Series, I wanna meet/steal their scouts..Impressive stuff.
.
SoCal has a hot bed of JC talent and even many rock star HS players who go overlooked/undrafted. Hit the JC’s hard out here a lot of these guys are monsters!
Cosmo2
I don’t think the Angels problem is the scouts, it’s the upper level folks who are supposed to be listening to them.
.
I hear what you are saying…I guess that could indeed be the case. Hard to know for sure.

Perry saw that 1.18 era in 8 games in 2016 and said to himself, “Maybe, just maybe…” I myself don’t see it happening.
Camden453
lol, it could be. Someone please tell me they actually watch him pitch rather than look at stats
User 401527550
The 100% Saber metric crowd would say there is no need. They get everything from stats.

Noone claimed Nate Fisher. Shocking. Better than a lot of the relievers in the league. I know he struggles with command but the slider is absolutely nasty and the spin volume and perceived velo on his 93 fastball is off the charts. You can not pick up that fastball. deGrom level spin size. Plus, a true talent
Too much emphasis on the gun reading. I understand passing with his control struggles but it continues to shock me how everyone lays off this guy, especially when I see the types of relievers that get regular spots
put it in the books
So did Fisher end up back at triple a then? I guess he must’ve if he wasn’t claimed.

AAA depth again, exactly where he belongs. You might see him again if there’s an injury or if the pen gets taxed.

This is not the place careers go to resurrect.

Maybe they should talk to Clarence
