The MLBTR team works hard every single day to bring you all the hot stove news and rumors, as we have for over 16 years. If you’re enjoying our trade deadline coverage, we’d appreciate your support in the form of a Trade Rumors Front Office subscription, which costs $2.99 per month or $29.89 per year.
This is not a request for charity! Our subscribers love the service, which includes ad-free browsing and weekly exclusives like a subscriber-only chat with Anthony Franco and articles from Anthony, Steve Adams, and Brad Johnson. Check out all the benefits here and consider giving it a try!

Will subscribing heat up that hot stove cuz man I’m fiending

More users would be open to subscribing if there were increased transparency and consistency on how the moderators determine that comments should be deleted and voices should be silenced.
Users would also appreciate it if the reply notification feature was fixed. Sometimes notifications come through fine. Other times notifications are sent out for every subsequent comment to the original post rather than to the comment being replied to. The comments and replies also are not collated so it’s not easy to determine who is being replied to. Lengthy discussions become a wall of text without much rhyme or reason.
Those issues should be addressed.

I hear what you’re saying but on the website and using my phone collating the replies would mean a super skinny long text riding the right side of my phone screen with one word per line. I believe it used to be that way a few years ago but it’s so much easier to read as it is currently. Most guys get around it by typing the username they’re replying to. On the app though I believe the replies are collated.

I think it’s a stretch to say more people would subscribe if the comment section was fixed but I do agree it’s a major issue with the site.

Hard disagree with this. I come here for the content and only sometimes even look at the comments and mostly just a quick skim and move along. I think as you get older and realize how horrible the internet and most other humans are you stop having this weird desire for satisfaction from a fancy comments section. I just want more articles to read.
Tim Dierkes
I agree with this. The comment section just cannot be what a lot of people seem to want or expect it to be.
Some people want more moderation of the comments, and some want less. But it’s not a place I want to put a ton of MLBTR’s resources into. We have a commenting policy I hope people can try to adhere to:
mlbtraderumors.com/2020/07/mlb-trade-rumors-commen…
We also have a mute button if you want to read the comments but ignore certain people you find annoying.
There’s not someone poring over every comment made on this site. Some stuff is flagged automatically for profanity. Other stuff is flagged repeatedly by other commenters for being off-topic or insulting or some other violation of our policy. I generally delete the flagged stuff with a quick skim at most. There’s not a team of moderators. It’s just me checking once in a while.
It’s likely that comments that were deleted violated our policy in some way, and it’s also likely that we don’t catch every comment that is a policy violation.
Our focus is on writing as many good baseball trade and free agency posts as we can, which is why I recently hired Darragh McDonald full-time to go along with Steve Adams and Anthony Franco.

That’s interesting because on all of the Covid articles the comments that are against the vaccine get deleted, and most of them don’t violate a single policy listed.
Yet the comments that are inflammatory/derogatory towards un-vaccinated players are left untouched. Care to explain? I’ll wait…
Tim Dierkes
That’s an imagined conspiracy…I’m not parsing commenters’ covid opinions, because I don’t care or have time to do that. It’s likely that most of what gets deleted is off-topic, since this is a baseball website, but our system also automatically takes down comments if they get flagged a ton by other commenters.
nottinghamforest13
It’s not a conspiracy. It actually happened. The comments were there and then they were removed. All comments mentioning COVID were not removed, but rather ones that felt a certain way.
Jonny5
No, it isn’t. And you clearly are. Like you mentioned before, I’ll use the mute button to ignore people I find annoying. Thanks for the worthless response!
Tim Dierkes
We literally don’t have any employees reading those comments. Some stuff gets flagged into oblivion.
Delete zero comments: Can’t do that, because it would result in a ton of hate speech on the site, which would eventually cause us to go out of business
Hire people to read every comment: Can’t do that, we’d go out of business
ZabbiaI
So if I continuously flag a comment it will be deleted?
boastrogot
what’ll ya give me for a jose reyes domestic violence COMMENTS CLOSED
Tim Dierkes
No, it’d need to be flagged by multiple people. Not sure how many offhand.
rondon
ALL of the comments against vaccines get deleted?? How on earth can you even know that? Ridiculous. If you keep coming
back to this site then support it by paying a very nominal subscription fee. Otherwise, just leave if you find it offensive.

I am happy to subscribe. There are a few perks I like but overall I sub for the content. I’m practically a day one reader and I love this site. Is it perfect? No. Are we perfect? No. I get hours of enjoyment from the content and rarely do I care about the comments. Most of its just trolls being ugly for the sake of being ugly.
