If you can’t reply to a member’s post, does that mean that member has blocked/muted you ??? Damn I didn’t think I was that annoying.
Gwynning
So some ignorant sunuvagun blocked you… I’d just move on and not give it another second of thought. I block the spam marketers; everyone is going to tailor make their online experience so, in other words, I wouldn’t take it personal.

Thanks Gwynning, I appreciate the comment. Padres fans are great. I’m an AL West Seattle guy first and foremost but I can easily root for the Padres as my fave NL team. Always had respect for Bob Melvin.
Gwynning
Lol, I actually proposed a poll idea this chat- Who wins a title first, Seattle or San Diego? We can appreciate the M’s even if you are our league designated rival!! haha cheers mate
Gwynning
Abrams, Gore, Hassell, Campusano, Grisham and Jackson Merrill would (likely) be the Pads “best” offer for Soto… discussions could change the minutiae of the matter.
Gene C
What do you think the birds will do at number 1? As well buyer or seller?
Gwynning
The O’s have some serious young talent coming… they may want to accentuate Grayson and DL with another lights out arm. Curious to see and I root for the O’s ever since Mussina was the guy there. Love their unis and logo!

No pitcher in this class fits that lights out description and Elias has basically said they’re deciding between Jones, Lee, Holliday, Johnson, and Green with the first pick. I could see them going for pitchers that are top 10 in the class but likely to fall out of the first like Pallette, Tidwell, Ford, and Whisenhunt (pending availability) at 33 and/or 42, but I think they’ll make another run at Jud Fabian with one of those picks seeing as they had a deal in place last year before the Sox took him at 40
My money’s on Brooks Lee for 1-1

Another great chat. In my opinion, this the best sports website by far. It’s like bleacher report with more intelligence.

Mark is exceptional. Far and away the best here. Not sure you’ll find anything better on MLB elsewhere.
It’s the only chat I read. Make the time for it. He brings a balanced, reasoned approach – which I oftentimes lose as a fan.

About ranking prospects and the Top 100 list and who makes it to the bigs……
I find it hard to believe that the analysis is totally objective.
Everything in pro sports is under a microscope with people tripping over one another trying to find guys to make name for themselves…and then monetize it.
Sunday is MLB draft day. In pro football and pro basketball most of their draft choices don’t amount to much. But pro baseball is dozens of times worse. Yet over the Internet at least a thousand outlets – including 2 kids in a dorm room – will be giving fans draft breakdowns. Then when the guys are in the minors people are looking up statistical and publicly available video breakdowns. But also being factored in – as with the other pro sports leagues – is where was the player was drafted and how much bonus money he got. Because the reality is that most teams go out of their way to get a return on their investment by giving those players playing time and having roving coaches and instructors working more intensely with those they drafted high. Consequently, for some time those players will show the best potential. In time that thins out. But it would be interesting to see a breakdown of the Top 100 ranked players and what rounds they were drafted in.
Samuel
Another thing about the rankings that I’ve seen…..
A team is in the top 3-4 for their “farm system”. One would think they’re chock full of quality prospects. They may have 60-80 players in that farm system.
They promote 3 of their AAA prospects one year.
Their farm system is now ranked around 15th.
I’ve seen this happen when a ML team is in a rebuild numerous times (the next year they call up 3 more guys, their farm system ranking goes to 22-25).
One offseason a ML Baseball Ops guy trades veterans for 3-4 prospects. According to the rankings: “He rebuilt the farm system”.
It seems to me that the majority of prospects that make it to the majors either fail, or bounce around from team to team having one or two decent years if they’re fortunate.
Again, I’m sure MLB FO’s have accurate stats on all these, and understand the realities as opposed to the sensationalism sold to fans.
It’s also why I say that organizations have to develop players at the ML level today to be successful. The chat noted the Dodgers; the Astros and others do the same. Teams can trade for players with good or bad stats. What matters is how they translate under the new teams coaching.
Holy Cow!
TLDR*2
iverbure
Joshua, small market teams like the rays, brewers and Cleveland are ruled out for Soto because it would be a completely stupid idea that none of the brilliant Ivy League gms would consider.
Fever Pitch Guy
Mark had a very good point, there might be small payroll teams willing to part with top prospects for three runs at a championship with Soto..

Seems like the NFL makes an entire circus atmosphere out of their draft way more than MLB. MLB draft can be easily ignored and tuned out if you aren’t interested; NFL draft you have to take active measures and tune out every electronic device and ignore all humans if you want to avoid it.
DarkSide830
And now it’s a month later because they want to make a spectacle of it. Lame.

The problem of trading Soto before the deadline; then Cruz and Bell feel like thier left holding a bag of dirty diapers. “Let me out”!
Manfred’s playing with the balls
I think it would best for Washington to move Soto in the winter for the reasons you mention. Let the draft play out and see what holes need filling after this season.
Jean Matrac
The trouble with trading Soto in the offseason, supposedly to have recent draft picks available, is that projection is such a crap shoot. I’m not sure the Nat’s would want to gamble on a highly regarded prospect for Soto that may, or may not, develop as hoped. If they’re trading Soto, I’d think they’d want someone with more of a track record, and more assurance of being good.
Plus, no team drafts to fill holes. Teams always draft best player available, even if that guy is a catcher, and they already have 8 catchers in their system.
pt57
They’re FAs at the end of year, so why should the Nats care how they feel? They’ll play hard looking for the next K anyhow.
dadofdonnydownvote
Soto will be traded surely now. 440 million was the Nats best offer and fair. I for one will be interested the prospect haul the Nats get back.
LouWhitakerHOF
I have never seen this Volpe guy play. But this is the prospect I hear about more then an other. We will get a chance to see him in the future stars game today.
Drew Waters Bat
To the person who asked about trading for Soto. So your gonna have Gerrit Coles contract, Aaron Judge contract, Gian Carlo Stantons contract and Juan Soto’s contract. Gonna be close to $1.4 Billion in guaranteed money. Wow.
gbs42
The Yankees can afford that easily.
