Hey Dodger fans,
With Buehler out for awhile, Heaney’s shoulder issues, and Gonsolin’s inevitable reduction in workload (has only thrown 100+ innings in a season once and that was 4 years ago), do the Dodgers go out and get an innings eater at the trade deadline? If so, who do you think would be a good fit without mortgaging a lot of equity?
Go Dodgers
drasco036
Kyle Hendricks….
Hendricks would be a good fit in LA and pitching out west in general. He stays healthy, has playoff experience and the Cubs wouldn’t seek a lot of trade equity in a deal.
tstats
I said this two years ago lol. Not here by Hendricks was my constant prayer with my family
Shrutefarm
I agree, Hendricks would be a great fit. He’s a local boy too! I know his numbers have been down, but maybe being on a contender again where every game matters, and family being able to come see him pitch more often will invigorate him.
drasco036
Hendricks really just has not pitched well with Contreras behind the dish for him. The Cubs lately have transitioned to Gomes behind Hendricks’ “personal catcher” but also have not let Contreras catch a Thompson start lately either.
I’m fairly certain we will see Gomes behind the plate tonight for Hendricks again.
drasco036
Let’s make a deal… Kyle Hendricks, David Robertson and cash for Vargas
Shrutefarm
drascoo, – Ha, that does sound tempting, but I’m not sure if the Dodgers want to move a top 100 prospect for those specific two players.
drasco036
If the Dodgers can do what Gomes has done with Hendricks then it’s a steal….
Gomes has become Hendricks personal catcher as of late and has worked to the tune of 2.53 era with a 4.67 k/w ratio… it will be interesting to see if the trend continues tonight as Kyle and Yan team up against the Brewers.

Whats the latest on Bauer? did he appeal his suspension? Will he pitch for LA…do they even want him?
brodie-bruce
@joey between his appeal with bb, his potential lawsuit with mlb, and with his allegations concerning his suspension, i’d say it’s over a 90% chance he doesn’t pitch for lad or any team for that matter. especially now that mlb is starving for newer fan bases, most if not all clubs want more women attending games and interested, for the fact you can potentially add 2 to 3 more people going to games (i.e. boyfriends/husbands and kids). if you put the pr nightmare that is trevor right now your going to lose a good chunk of that female fan base your trying to build. unfortunately for tevor weather he is truly innocent or not doesn’t matter in the court of public opinion, and right now trevor might as well be gacy or dohmer.

We have a Justice Sheffield for you. We’ll take Chris Taylor back. Please and thanks
AHH-Rox
Chad Kuhl shouldn’t cost too much if the Rockies are willing to trade within the division. Of course we’re talking about the Rockies so they’ll probably hang onto him for no good reason.
gbs42
I don’t know if Maybe ‘s “inefficient dolt” comment was serious or joking, but Steve’s reply was spot on.
flamingbagofpoop
The idea that no one forced him to be here, so he shouldn’t make suggestions is just stupid.
hyraxwithaflamethrower
I didn’t mind the suggestion, but the ‘inefficient dolt’ part was out of line.
Gwynning
Maybe that was Maybe Fünke posing the silly whataboutism, then the ironic idiocracy would make some sense.
foreverseahawk
The way he made the (suggestion) was extremely rude.

I think the number of team’s who haven’t decided if they’re in or out should be pretty small by now. A few teams whose records put them on the bubble can make the decision based on roster construction. The Phillies for example aren’t likely to catch the Mets, but they need to go all in anyway and the sooner the better. They don’t have much to sell and no matter what they have big money, long-term contracts that aren’t going away. There is no reason to hire Dave Dombrowski for half measures. They don’t develop young players anyway. Trade the farm and go all in this year. Then do it again in the winter. Keep doing it until the cupboard is bare or the long term money is off the books.
Gwynning
That’s kinda how they’ve been built and, I agree, should continue to go. Tough division for the Phils and half-measures aren’t going to work. No chaff and flares needed in Philly’s loadout, it’s all about the bombs; defense be damned!!
DarkSide830
The Phillies don’t need to catch the Mets regardless. There are three WC spots this season.
DonOsbourne
Exactly my point.
Samuel
The Phillies are over the luxury tax line and must get below it in 2023.
If they – ” Trade the farm and go all in this year. Then do it again in the winter.” – then they’re looking at another 5-6 year rebuild a few years after…..and maybe even a longer than a 5-6 year rebuild as they’ll be assessed draft penalties.
DonOsbourne
Sam
Normally I agree 100%. If a team is being smart, they have long term as well as short term goals and they never sell out for one season. This model has kept the Cardinals competitive for 25 years.
However, I think the Philles have painted themselves into a corner. Their inability to develop young players, along with their peculiar roster construction makes a Los Angeles Rams type of approach defensible, even logical. The eventual fallout will be ugly. But 5 to 7 years of fringe contention with an ugly brand of play won’t make the fans any happier.
If they go all in and try to fill the holes, money and prospect capital be damned, maybe they can make the current effort worth the while.
Samuel
Contrary to popular opinion from newbies that think Dave Dombrowski’s career started in Boston, the fact is that he’s been very good about building farm systems and developing players.
This year the Phillies bullpen has evolved to the point that it’s not just no longer a hot mess, it’s actually been extremely effective the last month. The shortcomings at CF and SS have been addressed by using multiple players in situations that can succeed in, and having the coaches working with them to improve. They ARE developing young players.
What you need to keep in mind is this – if the Phillies do as you say they may compete at a high level for 2 years. At that point they’ll be stuck with old players and an astronomical payroll of contracts, most of which they won’t be able to move. The owner will be losing large amounts of money, the franchise will be penalized with draft choices so another 5-6-plus year rebuild will be in store. Harper will want out, and the Philly fans will be furious, as they recently waited through a rebuild that didn’t work.
What you’re proposing is a disaster that will have the Phillies worse then the Nationals appear today….for years (and in that case, the reason Soto has refused to sign a $400m extension is because he and Scott Boras want to see what sort of team he’ll have around him before making a long-term commitment).
