The Mariners have reinstated Carlos Santana from the restricted list, the team announced. In a corresponding roster move, Kevin Padlo was optioned to Triple-A. It’s a good time to return to the Mariners, who are amid a 20-3 run, including an active 12-game winning streak. Santana has appeared in 15 games for the Mariners since being acquired from the Royals, slashing a robust .245/.383/.449 in that time. Elsewhere around the junior circuit…
- Frankie Montas intends to return to the A’s rotation after the All-Star break, per MLB.com. The right-hander will throw a bullpen on Saturday in the hopes of being ready to make his first start since July 3rd. Montas knows that the sooner he gets back on the hill, the sooner he continues to showcase for a potential trade. “As much as I don’t want to think about it, I don’t know, I think it’s a big possibility that I still get traded,” Montas said, per Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle.
- Vinny Nittoli plans to opt out of his contract with the New York Yankees, per Robert Murray of FanSided (via Twitter). The 31-year-old right-hander has just one career appearance in the Majors. That appearance came last season with the Mariners, who drafted him in the 25th round of the 2014 draft. This season he has logged 36 2/3 innings in Triple-A with a 3.44 ERA for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Blue Baron
Why does a MINOR league scrub like Vinny Nittoli even get mentioned on a site called MAJOR League Trade Rumors?
YankeesBleacherCreature
You must be new here.
Blue Baron
Probably no newer than you. We don’t all post all the time. And why don’t you address the question or not instead of attacking the messenger?
BBSmoke
blue I do believe he was simply making a crack about the site doing this regularly.
GreenReign
He has 1 more appearance in the Majors than you.
Cosmo2
Oh snap. Or something, I guess.
Blue Baron
Which is relevant how?
Cosmo2
It’s not relevant whatsoever.
compassrose
Man cool down the guy made a joke and you get snippy. The more you act like that the worse it will get. There are a lot of smart a** on here. Drives me nuts why can’t we have an intelligent conversation about BB?
Blue Baron should your name drop Baron and use a different B word? Like Baseball?
pbfog
Who?
NWMarinerHawk
Cheers again to all the Jays fans around me last Sunday when Black Magic Man hit that go ahead dinger in the bottom of the 8th. Suddenly it became a home game again. Thanks for the memory!
NWMarinerHawk
God the Mariners are so hot right now. We haven’t been this good since I was in Junior High. I don’t know what to do with my hands
Cosmo2
This is what happens when a team has a long term plan and sticks to it. (Phillies, Reds, you listening?)
Rick Pernell
Slap your hands together and save the up and down motion for later.
Fred Park
This Mariners team can beat anybody, anytime.
Talk is cheap. This team just wins.
Slothcliff Hokum
Right on, Fred! I like it that of their remaining 71 games, the M’s have 31 games against the Angels, A’s and Rangers. Of course there are also seven games versus the Astros but none of those games are after July 31. There will be some games against the Yankees, but also a number against middling AL Central teams (Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit). I think the rest of the schedule looks good enough that the playoffs are more than just a pipe dream this year. Good times ahead!
Fred Park
Slothcliff, I am especially eager to see this next series with the Astros.
I think we will see the Mariners win that series, myself, and after that one, hope will abound beyond a shadow of a doubt.
compassrose
When Haniger and Lewis get back that lineup will be tough. Kelenic is hitting too and could be up late July early Aug. If he lives up to the hype another bat. Not going to have enough spots to play them all.
Fred Park
Great and good thoughts, compassrose.
About Kelenic, I don’t expect him to contribute. The guy is just too much of a head case.
I hate to say it, but that is the way I see it.
Cosmo2
Definitely a lot more drama than you’d like from a player’s side before he even contributes in the majors.
NWMarinerHawk
Fred I actually think Kelenic could be candidate to be a late 20’s bloomer. The poor kid is so talented but watching him at the plate is painful. You just wanna reach through the tv and grab him and shake him DUDE THEY ARE SETTING YOU UP TO CHASE AND YOU DO IT EVERYTIME lol
I am rooting for him. I still don’t think his window on this team is shut. But Trammel has basically taken his spot as of right when he gets back (hammy supposed to be minor) now and you got Mitch and Kyle coming back
It’s gonna be a long road for the kid
You know it’s gotta be tough to watch your buddy and teammate get the call and have all this massive success as you are flopping. It’s going to make or break his tenure here, how he handles it, imo. Personally I’d love to see him packaged in a trade for Juan Soto. Just don’t touch any of the current staff. You can take Emerson.
lee cousins
Hi, Fred I see you’ve made another outstanding prediction. They certainly have the momentum. The pitching has been very good the hitting is also good as well an it’s only going to get better. Remember we talk about Santana? Looks like he belongs.. how can it go wrong with Haniger, Lewis, on deck. Looks like the word is they maybe looking at another starting pitcher at the trade deadline. which we could fully expect them making the playoff’s
compassrose
I wonder what it would take to get Soto? He is under contract for 2 more years. They have the time so no rush. It was interesting they backloaded the contract offer. You would think it would be front loaded so he is worth the money. One of the problems with the Cano contract well besides the roids.
dannycore
A good time to return to the ms? He had a single day off lol
NWMarinerHawk
lol he and JP were playing Go Fish yesterday on the bench while Julio took care of business
myaccount2
On a serious note, Santana’s house burned down and he had to go home to take care of all that comes with that. Everyone is safe, luckily.
NWMarinerHawk
Yes. When I heard Goldy reveal that I remembered this comment and felt terrible. Lol
Rsox
How does a guy named Vinny Nittoli not get at least one call up to the Bronx?
Cosmo2
Probably a northerner. We only like southern Italians around here.

A .245 batting average is “robust” ?
More like just “a bust.”
Slothcliff Hokum
An OBP of .383 and OPS of .832 in his 15 games with the M’s is what I’d call robust, although it is a small sample size. His prior numbers in KC though? Ugh! But he hasn’t been a bust with the M’s so far. Let’s see how he does during the remainder of the season.
SodoMojo90
Not even close to a bust so far with the Mariners. Nice try though
geg42
The mariners are running out of time to trade Padlo back to the Giants
