The Mets should be all over Willson Contreras however he has been awful handing the pitching staff this season. I think the Mets have guys where it won’t matter much who’s behind the dish (assuming DeGrom and scherzer return) and they could definitely utilize him at DH but I would be real cautious bringing him in to handle young pitchers.
Also, regarding the Cubs… no way to get they a return strong enough to move Wisdom with multiple years of control… it’s a small sample size but since wisdom has changed the bat handle, he’s hit .311 with an obp over .400 with 5 home runs and has been having some really impressive at bats. I think wisdom last night saw something like 30 pitches from lauer.
Granted, no one expects wisdom to keep up that run but his exit velocity, barrel rate and hard hit percentage are all elite, he plays very solid defense and is providing great value for the cubs.

It’s ridiculous that Dayton Moore is still employed by the Royals!
Samuel
Not really.

Yes. I can see the O’s getting offers for Mancini and accepting a trade deal (30 yrs old). The mystery man here in Baltimore is Santander. Quietly he’s in to his sixth year with the club. O’s still own him on the cheap (2.2 mil) plus outside of some injury stints he’s a starter (27 yrs old). Can’t tell if he’s part of their future or not?

I don’t understand why Steve thinks the A’s Murphy is such an immediate improvement over McCann. Unless all Mets catchers last names have to start with M. Neither guy is hitting.
CCCTL
It’s probably the big defensive improvement going from McCann to Murphy.
Or it might be that McCann is owed $25M through the 2024 season while Murphy is still pre-arb.
Or that Murphy has a wRC+ 29 points higher (94 vs 65).
Or, y’know, all of that together.

Sarcasm will get you nowhere. Look, Murphy may have a better weighted runs created, but he isn’t going to improve their offense THAT much. And when he was with the Sox, McCann was a solid defensive backstop. I haven’t watched him since he signed with the Metropolitans; however his experience alone would probably make him a better catcher for a win-now team like NY. And the salary is irrelevant – you’re not going to get the A’s to take him in return, so I don’t see how that matters at all.
Point wasn’t to compare the two – obviously anyone would prefer to have Murphy. But adding in what they’d have to give up in return for a somewhat marginal improvement won’t move the needle for them all that much. At least not this season. And we all know Cohen wants to win NOW.
Jean Matrac
I have to disagree. The sarcasm was effective as it was on the mark.
I don’t think the difference between the two is marginal. Being 6% below league average is a big difference from being 35% below league average.
McCann hasn’t been that good a fielder since about 2016. I will grant though that McCann’s pitch calling is probably a little better than Murphy’s, and his control of the running game is slightly better..
But Murphy, being much better with the bat , and a better overall fielder, means he would still be a significant upgrade over McCann.

I get what you’re saying but that’s with the expectation that both of their hitting will continue as it has been. If you feel like Murpjy over McCann will suddenly make other teams chilled with fright, then that’s your opinion.
Jean Matrac
Will it instill fright in opponents? Of course not. That’s just a silly exaggeration.
The question is, is it a significant upgrade? If you think not, then we can agree to disagree.
