“He’s [Dansby Swanson] never had an elite offensive season, and he’s swinging and missing a fair amount this year”
If you go by OPS+, he’s had only 1 above-average full season and that was the 2020 condensed season at 111 OPS+. He’s currently on-par for another one this year, but a patented prolonged cold streak could take him out of that. Considering he’s not an elite defender, anyone coming anywhere near $100M needs to find Jesus.
Samuel
SS is a defensive position. I know it’s a long time ago, but the Braves won the WS with him playing there.
Swanson would radically improve at least 3-4 teams as their SS starting with the White Sox and Phillies.
Will he get a large contract? Of course not. Having a steady SS isn’t sexy and doesn’t sell tickets or excite people here that look at offensive stats to judge a position players worth.
Odds are he resigns with the Braves.
Samuel
…..or possibly the Angels as Perry Minasian knows his worth.
kellin
He’d be a pretty big upgrade for the Angels at SS.
Rsox
Swanson would be the Angels best offensive SS since Jim Fregosi

No respect for Goat Schofield and Eck?

Erick Aybar
Andrelton Simmons

From 1984 to today those are the majority of players to play SS in Anaheim. Lots of good/decent gloves and little offense

“Derek Jeter has entered the chat”
Tigers3232
When did Jeter play for the Angels????
Joe says...
It’s just the usual red sox fandom’s fascination with the Yankees.
Rsox
Actually the comments are out of order and more to reference Samuel’s comment about a steady SS not selling tickets

When Correa, Turner, and Boegarts are going to aim for over $200 million, I think Swanson has a legit shot to ask for around $100 million. Now, I’m with you in that I couldn’t stomach paying him nine figures, but in this age, he’s going to get $17-20 million a year over 3-5 years this winter.
Rsox
Of the three Turner is the only one who *might* actually get that money. Teams weren’t lining up to sign Correa last winter after a healthy season so we’ll see how the rest of this season goes and even though i hope Bogey stays in Boston he is not worth that kind of money.
The only way Swanson gets to $100 million is if his next contract is at least a five year deal.

I find it comical someone actually thought the Royals would be willing to deal MJ Melendez to the Astros for Hunter Brown and a PRBNL.
Gwynning
The proposed swap isn’t too far-fetched, at least from an outsider’s perspective. #1 prospect for #1 prospect would work if both team’s needs are met… but I don’t see why Houston would do this with their #2 prospect being a catcher in Korey Lee. I don’t think either team would pursue this trade.
Deleted Userr
@Gwynning Not all farm systems are the same. The Royals’ system is much stronger than the Astros and so is their #1 prospect.
Rsox
Melendez is showing he can hit MLB pitching and Salvador Perez is slowly transitioning to a DH/C role so there would have to be more in this deal for the Royals to consider it. If you are the Astros you would have to believe that Lee isn’t the future behind the plate to want to make this deal

The Cardinals don’t need a corner outfielder. Carlson will be fine. They actually need to jettison Dickerson and just let Nootbar play more. However, their coaching staff is costing them more games than anything. Jeff Albert is still a joke. Marmol’s deployment of the pitching staff is head scratching. And even the all world defense is hampered by poor positioning. Jim Edmonds commented on it during tonight’s game. Too many balls that should be caught are getting through for hits because the defenders are caught out of position relative to the pitch being thrown. In other words, Mo and his geek squad coaching from the luxury box isn’t working.
DonOsbourne
Also, it’s painful watching Corey Kluber mowing down our lineup tonight. He’s a guy we should have made a real effort to sign in the offseason.
DonOsbourne
And does anyone besides Mo believe that Nick Wittgren is a better option than Jake Woodford? Wittgren sucks. That is all.
Samuel
Don;
You’re a great Cardinals fan.
Re: Wittgren……
As with the Braves and Cox/Mazzone: Don’t take a Pitcher that Cleveland has given up on. If you take one they moved because of salary considerations – be careful there as well.
Kluber is perfect for the Rays. Not sure he fits with the way most teams use starters. Tonight he did 5 innings / 80 pitches. That’s max effectiveness for him. He’s not a power pitcher anymore.
