With Carlos Correa still hampered by a bruised finger, the Twins are likely to put Correa on the 10-day injured list prior to today’s game against the Astros, The Athletic’s Dan Hayes writes. Correa has missed Minnesota’s last three games, and told Hayes and other reporters on Sunday that returning for today’s game wasn’t a “realistic” scenario.
Since Minnesota didn’t play yesterday, the hope was that Correa would make enough improvement on the off-day to line up a return for later in the week, but it seems like the Twins have just decided to be cautious and send the shortstop to the IL. All things considered, a 10-day IL stint may be the best-case scenario, as there was initial concern that Correa had suffered a fracture.
Former first overall pick Royce Lewis has been handling shortstop duties in Correa’s absence, and will now get to bank more playing time in his first taste of Major League action. While Lewis is more than just a stopgap option, the Twins likely wouldn’t have called him up this soon had the team not been hit with such a swath of injuries. Correa will be the 11th Twins player on the injured list, and Byron Buxton is also day-to-day with a minor hip strain.
Minnesota does have a 40-man roster opening, so the club could fill Correa’s roster spot by selecting the contract of a player in the organization on a minor league contract. Daniel Robertson, Curtis Terry, Elliot Soto, and Jake Cave are some of the names at Triple-A with MLB experience who would need to be added to the 40-man.

He will be traded to the Angels at the deadline.

The Mets perhaps looking to upgrade at SS?

Or Bogaerts. One to LAA other one to LAD.

Twins are in first place.
Old York
Just when he was starting to heat up. Oh, well, he still have the player option for the next two years so if it doesn’t work out this year, he can take the second year and hope to get back on track. But, I think the Twins were hoping to trade the guy at the deadline in hopes that he would put up decent numbers. That is not looking too good right now.

Minnesota is leading the ALC. Why would they want to trade one of their best players?

I disagree, I think the twins would prefer an mvp caliber season, playoff run followed by opt out.

I still can’t get over this line: “ With Carlos Correa still hampered by a bruised finger”
Wow…
Mark Polishuk
It was a bad enough bruise that there was concern over a fracture, and Correa is still not able to throw, take grounders, or hold a bat without discomfort. If Correa can’t effectively play and would only be further risking injury by playing, the IL is a logical move.
Yankee Clipper
Makes sense, but once they rule out the fracture, doesn’t that leave it….a bruise? Vlad played with a finger sliced open from a cleat and hit a few bombs after. Seems analogous to getting a rib fracture from a massage. I get it though. Hopefully he can avoid the 60-day IL.

If you can’t grip a bat correctly, you can’t grip a bat correctly. If it’s hampering his swing then he’s not going to hit well. I don’t know why this is so difficult for you to understand?
30 Parks
Agreed, Clipper – a “bruise.” This is exactly why I wouldn’t have signed Correa and I think many teams thought likewise.

Minnesota: “He’s not going to hit well”
– Apparently you’ve missed his ABs up to this point?
30 Parks: Yes, sir, which is precisely the point. He’s not helping his FA stock any if he intends to opt out, imo. That’s a ton of money to spend on someone who can’t play even when healthy. Not sure there’s a player in MLB who doesn’t play games with injuries throughout the season at some point. This dude makes a living going to the IL…

Can’t wait for the Joe Karen Kelly vs Correa matchups!

I doubt the Twins are trading CC. Even if you are out of the race, there is no gurantee that Correa opts out, and if you’re getting offers for two months of Correa, why trade two years of Correa for such an offer?
ohyeadam
You trade him because he’s expensive, likely to opt out, you have a ready replacement and, I know small sample size, he hasn’t played like a $35,100,000/year player would be expected too. All that and I don’t want to root for him anyway, BANG!!!!

That’s exactly why I would trade him too. I don’t think the Twins will though.

Correa is hurt a lot.
Maybe the Tigers dodged a bullet when he turned down their 275M over 10 years?!
