May 16: The Tigers have formally placed Meadows (vertigo) and Reyes (right quad strain) on the 10-day injured list. Righty Alex Faedo and outfielder Daz Cameron have been recalled from Toledo in their place.
May 15: Austin Meadows and Victor Reyes both made early exits from the Tigers’ 5-1 win over the Orioles today, and postgame, manager A.J. Hinch told reporters (including MLB.com’s Jason Beck) that the two outfielders would be placed on the 10-day injured list.
Meadows missed three games last week due to a sinus infection, and he hadn’t played in Detroit’s previous two games due to what he described as dizziness or vertigo-like symptoms. Attempting to play today, Meadows managed only one inning before having to depart, with Hinch saying that Meadows felt nauseous and lightheaded in addition to continued dizziness. The skipper said that Meadows will meet with a doctor Monday in Florida when the Tigers travel to visit the Rays.
Reyes was only just activated from the IL earlier today after missing three weeks with a left quad strain. Unfortunately for Reyes, he suffered a strain of his right quad while running the bases after a double in his first at-bat. Reyes had to be immediately replaced by a pinch-runner.
The Tigers were going to call up Alex Faedo to start Monday’s game against Tampa Bay, so Faedo will take the roster place of one of the injured outfielders. It would seem like a position player would be the other callup in order to help bolster the bench, and this could provide an opening for the recently-demoted Akil Baddoo to return to the majors. However, Baddoo hasn’t hit much during his week in Triple-A, so the Tigers might want to give him more time to really get on track before calling him back up the Show.
Derek Hill and Willi Castro can fill in for Meadows and Reyes in the outfield, but losing more position players won’t help a Detroit team that has been collectively ice-cold the plate. Meadows is one of the only Tigers with above-average production to date, with a .270/.365/.350 slash line over his first 115 plate appearances.
They just activated Victor Reyes too.
Yeah, he hit a double in his first at bat since being recalled… And then he pulled up lame. Very disappointing.
Would have been a triple minus the injury. Luckily his pinch runner, Derek Hill, stole third and scored on a single.
It’s only Meadows 1st IL stint, still 2 more to go, on the year.
Resign Niko immediately.
If you’re talking Niko Goodrum they can’t re-sign him since he’s with Houston.
And he was just demoted to AAA by Houston. Which is where he should have been during his time in Detroit.
Not necessarily anyone specific. I would be exploring trying out younger players who were dfa. They don’t pan out, try someone else. Two of our “better” young outfielders are guys we picked up in the rule 5
Well, we knew this was coming. Just means that two other guys will get a chance.
So Reyes missed time with a strained quad only to come back and immediately strain the other quad… that’s gotta suck
I wonder if Meadows could have Meniere’s disease. Let’s hope not.
Might be good to look for a bat
Gotta give. Up a Toledo arm
With all the injuries, they can’t trade any pitching prospects. No way in hell. Their hitting will improve. In fact, it seems to be getting a bit better right now.
Disagree. They already gave up Paredes. Maybe this is not the year. Next year(fingers crossed).
The Tigers have Miguel on fire, so that’s a huge plus. All those years he enabled Detroit to carry Victor to his full term of contract at D.H., cost Miguel a whole lot of stat’s. Playing through his injuries, he’s been a great player for Detroit, and big Mike Ilitch was a fantastic, and loyal owner to his players.
With Skubal looking like a young J.V. the Tiger pitching looks fantastic. Thank God the Tigers didn’t get a Lindor or a Correa. Baez along with Turk in the field this year has really made a difference. I think when the spark plug Greene comes up there will be a roar in the hitting.
Skubal is the best pitcher since Verlander, looks like a true ace
I officially feel empathetic for Tiger fans now. Whole roster is falling apart.
At this point, all that matters is that Avila gets fired. We have an open roster spot, pick up some youngish outfielder and see what happens. In all honesty, he’ll probably get injured
The Tigers just won 3 in a row, they’re not going to fire anyone. And these injuries aren’t his fault.
The roster is. Also they beat Baltimore 3 in a row, that’s not an accomplishment. That should be an expectation
Baltimore had just won 6 of their last 8 games before the Tigers got a hold of them.
@c-herb
Roster is pretty solid. Sweeping any team is an accomplishment. I’m sure if they had lost to Baltimore, you would have had even kinder words. They did what they should have done, no more, no less. Only NYY and TB have swept the Orioles this year, so I guess the Tigers are joining elite company. And most other teams are not living up to expectations, by your standards.
Ok. We’re in year 7 of avilas rebuild. Injuries happen I get that, but we’re no where near where we should be. You can argue to argue, but this team needs a new gm to help move it forward. God forbid I’d expect to see some results the better part of a decade into a rebuild
Rebuild has been going on for 5 years. Avila was tasked by Illitch to try to compete in his first two years. Whole reason Dombrowski was fired. He told Illitch a rebuild was necessary and Illitch wasn’t having it.
White Sox rebuild was for 10-12 years!?
Tigers are ahead of that.
Yay?
no one in Toledo is hitting either. They need a body, but depth is already pushed to the limit.. Is Billy McKinney still floating the waiver wire?
Kody Clemons is hitting well and can play some outfield and I believe is on the 40 man it’s about time he gets the call up
I agree completely.
Legit surprised we havent seen Clemens yet.
Billy McKinney is ALWAYS available
CAN CLEMENS PLAY of?
yes
Time to bring up Kody Clemens
The Tigers are an absolute dumpster fire.
@ you can put it…
Since you obviously don’t follow the sport, you really should keep reading more and comment less.
I am surprised they chose Cameron over Clemens, as Clemens LH bat and power could be helpful. Guess defense won out.
I’ve been pushing Clemens for a while, but the team lacks a CF and that would be Cameron. I don’t think Hill is a starting CF and the Castros are Swiss Army Knife CF backups. Somehow, though, Clemens will get a chance this year.
Clemens doesn’t play outfield and we just lost two outfielders…
And Hill doesn’t have the bat to be an everyday option but it’s who we have to start.
Clemens has played some corner outfield last year and probably this year as well.
Dax Cameron went 4 for 5 today and should get the call. Clemens also… both are on the 40
Let’s hope he can make the most of this latest opportunity.
Meadows hurt on the injury list this year? Who would have thought that wouldn’t have happened.
Help!
Really need another hitter and a healthy Riley Greene
Let’s hope that Cameron can finally produce some offense.
Is it just me or does it feel that the Tigers are snakebit this year? So many injuries and we’re not even a quarter way through it. Ugh!!!!
Interesting fact about Baddoo…. he’s been down in Toledo for a week…. he’s only played in 2 games. He’s 1 for 9.
I’ve been wondering if he’s sick or hurt.
Or working on his swing. But, I’m not so sure that they sit out while working on a swing. Seems counterintuitive…. I think they’d want to supplement the training with live play. But, I don’t really know wth.
Dan Dickerson said Baddoo was “banged up” during tonight’s broadcast.
Yeah. Unfortunately, he didn’t elaborate.
Guessing Baddoo is getting his swing reworked.
Hinch said they they were sending Baddoo down so that he could get more playing time and work on his hitting.
Time or Daz Cameron to “seized the moment
and win one of the OF jobs.
He has the talent.
Maybe pay his Dad Mike to travel with the team and help
“coach him up” to his full potential.
Last time Mike was in the stands yelling @ Daz, Daz picked up his game considerably.
