4:34PM: McCutchen did test positive for the coronavirus, manager Craig Counsell told MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy and other reporters.
4:18PM: The Brewers have placed outfielder Andrew McCutchen on the COVID-related injury list. Utilityman Mike Brosseau has been called up from Triple-A while McCutchen is sidelined.
It isn’t yet known if McCutchen has tested positive for COVID-19 or if his placement is merely precautionary due to symptoms or a close-contact situation. If the latter, the veteran outfielder could be back in Milwaukee’s lineup as early as tomorrow. If McCutchen has tested positive, he’ll miss at least 10 days unless he can deliver two negative tests, go at least 24 hours without a fever, and get approved by a panel of three physicians (a team doctor, a league-approved doctor, and a players’ union-approved doctor).
After signing a one-year, $8.5MM free agent deal to join the Brew Crew, McCutchen has yet to really get going, hitting a modest .240/.291/.350 with two home runs over his first 110 plate appearances in a Brewers uniform. McCutchen has mostly worked as the designated hitter, so Milwaukee is likely to rotate several regulars through the DH spot in his absence, with Brosseau, Tyrone Taylor, and Jace Peterson filling holes around the diamond or getting some DH time themselves.

Duvall sounds like a good replacement for the Brewers

Were you the black sheep in the family? It sounds so with your incessant nagging.

Might very well been a chance to bring Turang up for a look at second since you wouldn’t have had to add him to the 40
richt
I think they still have an open spot on the 40 even after bringing up Perfomo, so they could go with anyone really

He’s been regularly DHing.
They just sent Hiura down, who could use the regularly MLB at bats.
I don’t know what they expect from that guy running him back and forth to Nashville and then sitting him as soon as he puts a couple good games together in Milwaukee… the 2 games a week he gets to play.

If you’re asking what they expect from Hiura, I think it’s to hit consistently at AAA then carry it over and earn the AB’s with the big club.
The problem, even if he does hit, is they’re not going to DH him every day with Cutch, Yelich and Rowdy, and he’s not good enough defensively to warrant regular time at 2b or 1b.

Hiura has never been inconsistent at AAA.
In his 12 whole MLB starts this year, he’s gotten hits in 8, pulled early in 2, and had 0-fers in just 2 games. He’s only started back-to-back games twice though.
Cutch on the other hand, has gone hitless in 5 of his last 10. He had a hot first week, against Cubs and Orioles pitching… but barely pedestrian since then.
Hiura has an OPS 40 pts higher, as his backup.
Throughout his 4 years he’s always hit better when starting regularly. But even with this year’s sporadic starts, he’s still out-hitting McCutchen.
Hiura’s swing got altered in 2021, and he sorted it out in Nashville, but it’s been held against him ever since.
The problem is Craig Counsell is a micromanager, and his playoff record supports that.

…then carry it over and EARN the AB’s with the big club…
…not good enough defensively…
To summarize – his defense is awful so his bat doesn’t play. And the times he has been given anything resembling regular AB’s after being recalled, he strikes out 35% or more of the time.
