I watched Carlos Rodon pitch yesterday. What a fantastic signing by Farhan Zaidi! I hope he remains a Giant long term.
Logan Webb and Rodon are going to be absolute beasts this year if they stay healthy.
I’d caution feigning adoration for Rodon after 2 GS. The best thing Zaidi did was a short-term deal you can get him motivated with dollar signs in his eyes and play for a contract. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, for now.
After watching Gausman pitch, I don’t know why the Giants let him get away. He’s definitely not the pitcher I remember from his Baltimore days.
They didn’t want to pay 20+ million over long term. They giants haven’t handed out a 100m+ deal since zito and posey, and that started with the last regime always handing out those 5 for 90s. This is an even more savvy front office. They much prefer short term higher aav.
Hmmm… I could’ve swore I remember other commenters on here bashing the Giants for signing Gausman, but I don’t know lol
You are so right! InrecallbInwas one of the only people touting his ability. Everyone was very negative about Gausman at the time. That really stands out to me as well. Glad you mentioned that!
IF … a big IF, given his history.
in season review
The Colorado Rockies franchise is the most inept in baseball history. I have never seen such stupid moves like they’ve made in the past few years. Especially, the past two years.
I feel like the Cubs were bad for a while
You referring to before Theo or during? Yeah, he made some bad moves, like Heyward, for ex. But the Cubs were a true contender from the 2nd half of 2014 thru the end of 2020.
Baseball’s history is very long. Lots of teams have been much more inept.
Yea such hyperbole doesn’t really make for fruitful discussion. Just a hot take.
It’s tough to judge that particularly because the measurements for success aren’t clear. Wins? Playoff appearances? Championships? Ticket sales? Increasing the value of the francise? What’s the most important metric? I suspect it varies owner to owner.
When Walter O’Malley owned the LAD, the joke — in 1963 after the D’s swept the NYY– was that he would rather lose the WS in 7 than win it in 4. For Walter it was all about the $$$.
That is garbage, he wanted to beat the yankees!
That’s a very excellent point Von. Take the Cubs, for example – no, really, PLEASE take them ha – the product on the field is certainly lacking, but the team is worth more now than ever by a wide margin. As fans, we only care about that if profits are reinvested back into the product. But investors certainly do care.
I mean the last decade hasn’t been too hit for the Mets either lol
The Rockies are a weird team. But the pirates are pretty inept. The Orioles are not building a team very well, taking way too long. And the marlins, well they will sell off their team the first moment of success. Some competition with most inept team these past few years but the Rockies are definitely up there.
And there’s different levels too. The Phillies haven’t made the playoffs in over a decade, but the last 5 years or so, they’ve been spending like contenders. Is that success? I mean they’ve been able to maintain good attendance with mediocre squads. So there’s that.
Should have traded Gray. Certainly smart to not extend him after his start in Texas.
I think these offseason articles are going to get a lot of clicks and comments a month into the season.
