The Nationals have designated right-hander Patrick Murphy for assignment, the team announced. The move makes room on the active roster for Aaron Sanchez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A. Sanchez will start today’s game.
The 26-year-old Murphy was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays last August, and he’s been a member of the Nats’ bullpen since, though he had yet to really earn a regular role. He has appeared in six games so far this season, tossing 5 2/3 innings and surrendering five earned runs on eight hits with eight walks and just four strikeouts. Needless to say, it’s been a rough go early in the season for the former Blue Jay.
Another former Blue Jay will take his place on the active roster. Sanchez will step into the starting rotation and, given that he’ll make $2MM now that he’s on the active roster, it’s reasonable to assume he will remain in the rotation for awhile.

Not Patrick Corbin?

Thought just the same, then remembered the contract.

Patrick Corbin? The same guy that Yankees fans wanted desperately in free agency that one year?
It’s ok though, since then Brian Cashman made up for it with a slew of other awful contracts : )

Patrick Corbin has an ERA over 11, he wouldn’t even crack the Yankees AAA rotation at this point. What a rapid downfall for him.

In hindsight, the Corbin contract is terrible, as he has seemingly lost it all at once. On the other hand, he was vital in the 2019 World Series run. As they say, flags fly forever.

He never recovered from how he was used that postseason. Having him start games then pitch relief the next day in high leverage situations was a recipe for long term disaster. I still wouldn’t take it back because they got a WS out of it but you can see the long term effects still.

Is there evidence behind that assertion or is it just speculation? Plenty of guys have had the same usage, then had fine years afterwards.

Did this actually happen or is it just Trumpspeak? I saw he pitched one inning in game one, six in game four and three in game seven. This was in the world series. I find it very hard to believe that he started a game and then came in from the bullpen the very next day in the postseason. If you are going to say something that I think is ridiculous, back it up with some actual facts.

An Irishman replaced by someone named AA Ron?
How can this be?

Ya done messed up, A-A-Ron

Murphy was once thought to have the best curveball in the Blue Jays’ organization. Coupled with pretty decent velo on his fastball, I thought there might be a reliever version of Tyler Glasnow in there. Control issues though I guess.
