The Mets made a few roster moves today, as relayed by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Mark Canha was reinstated from the Covid IL, while Matt Reynolds was designated for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster. (Players on the Covid list don’t count against a club’s 40-man roster.) Right-handed pitcher Jake Reed, who began the season on the injured list with an oblique strain, was reinstated and optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.
Canha, along with Brandon Nimmo, both tested positive for Covid-19 and landed on the shelf April 15th. Both players were asymptomatic. Under the league’s 2022 health-and-safety protocols, players who test positive are subject to a 10-day absence from the club, though it’s possible to be reinstated in less time if the player has gone 24 or more hours without a fever, received a pair of negative PCR tests, and been given approval from a team physician and the MLB/MLBPA joint committee (a panel of one league-appointed and one union-appointed physician). That seems to have been the case for both players, as Nimmo was activated yesterday and Canha today, just four and five days after their IL placement.
Signed by the Mets to a two-year, $26.5MM deal in the offseason, Canha is off to a great start in his Queens residency. In his first 26 plate appearances, he’s hitting .381/.500/.381, for a wRC+ of 174.
Reynolds was signed to a minor league deal in the offseason and had his contract selected when Nimmo and Canha went on the IL. The 31-year-old has 251 career plate appearances in 131 games, hitting .212/.282/.323. A second round pick of the Mets in 2012, Reynolds has become a bit of a journeyman, spending time with the Nationals, Royals and White Sox in recent years, before returning to the Mets. In 21 Triple-A plate appearances this year, he’s hit .118/.238/.294.

Can @MetsFan22 explain how the missed WAR for the few days will have an impact on the Mets season?
TradeAcuna
Let the Mets have their fun. Everything is going their way and might be their year. I don’t think the Braves are doing much this year. 2/3rds of the reason they won it all last year is gone (Freeman, Soler).
VonPurpleHayes
Waaaaay too early to gauge anything like that. The Mets look great, but we’ve seen this before.
MarlinsFanBase
Yes, we’ve seen the Mets do this before. With the Mets, it’s not how they look from April through July. It’s how they look after that.
Metsfan9
I swear you’re not even a Marlins fan account just a Mets hate account. I mean if you’re going to clown us, at least be a fan of a better team than us lol
MarlinsFanBase
Wrong @MetsFan…you’re #9. We want #22.
And FYI to address the “better team” part.
Marlins = 2 championships through 31 seasons.
Mets = 2 championships through 60 seasons.
Marlins = 2 championships since 1986 (only being around since 1993)
Mets = 0 championships since 1986
Marlins = last championship in 2003
Mets = last championship in 1986
Get the picture?
48-team MLB
The Mets (aka Rochester Rabbits) will win eight championships.

They can…if they win a petition for MLB to shorten the season to end on July 31st…and start them with a 15 game divisional lead…a 3-0 series lead in every postseason series…and allows them to select the first 60 draft picks in every draft and sign all of the top 50 free agents every year.
MarlinsFrontOffice
This man does not represent us or our wonderful fan base here at the Marlins Front Office.
rct
Yeah, man. You really showed him that you’re not just a trolling Mets hate account.
By the way, let’s focus on some recent history:
Marlins = 3 winning seasons since 2006
Marlins = 0 playoff wins since 2003
Marlins = 1 playoff appearance since 2003, getting swept in the COVID season
Marlins = eight 90+ loss seasons in the last 14 full seasons
Marlins = 22 playoff wins in franchise history
Marlins = 3 playoff appearances in franchise history
Marlins = inability to hold on to…any of their talent
Marlins = perpetually ‘just a few years away’ from contention
The Marlins are an absolute joke of a franchise. No fans, always crying poor, trading away all of their talent, never competing. Keep focusing on the Mets because there’s nothing to look forward to as a Marlins fan.
I’m not saying the Mets are great or anything, but the Marlins are legit TERRIBLE. Please get a new act, as you’ve been doing this on almost all Mets posts for like five years.

What do you mean “no fans”, @rct!?
They have senior citizen night every Thursday! LOL
TradeAcuna
Don’t worry Met fans. One day the Marlins will try to buy a championship just like Uncle Steve is trying to.- the keyword is “trying to” in case you didn’t know. Tell you what though (albeit I’m sure you don’t care)…. If the Mets somehow meet the Dodgers in the playoffs, sadly I’d root for the Mets because I’m sick and tired of the Dodgers.. Hate them and how everything always goes their way. Thank goodness for Rosario and Matsek because otherwise, the Braves would have lost again to them.
dlw0906
I’m really excited to see them off to this hot start. There is something different about this team and I like what Buck brings as a manager. The team looks really good but it’s only April. It’s a long season so the key is how will they handle losing streaks, injury, or underperformance of certain players.
But there’s nothing wrong with a hot start and right now they’re playing great ball. LGM

@MarlinsFrontOffice
Is this your new handle @MetsFan22? Which troll are you from the Mets fan base that has disappeared?
MarlinsFanBase
@rct
Did you say no playoff wins since 2003?
22 Playoff wins in franchise history?
Check your facts.
Recent history huh? Marlins have more playoff wins in the last 5 years than the Mets.
I take your “Marlins = perpetually ‘just a few years away’ from contention” and raise you with “Mets = always hyped as a championship contender from the offseason until reality hits the next season, then they are either ‘underachieving’, ‘not living up to their potential’, ‘[fill in the blank] excuse’, etc.”
I’m not saying the Marlins are a great franchise, but we have done a lot for such lousy past ownership, and we’re tied with 3 older franchises (Mets, Blue Jays and Royals) for most championships by an expansion team. Not bad considering that we’re not the fan base or media market that makes our team to be great every single year. And I’ll happily take the “joke of a franchise” label instead of rooting for the franchise that always finds a way to be the laughing stock of the NL East and MLB almost every year.
And as for the bad parts of our franchise, unlike the Mets fan base, we don’t fool ourselves about our team like your mostly delusional fan base. In fact, while your fan base has so many more fans than we do compared to our few fans, we have two things going for us. 1) We have more fans that are in touch with reality than your fan base. 2) We have more diehard fans for our team that stick with the team through thick and thin, unlike your fan base that is vastly filled with fans that are fairweather and seasonal, who bail out on the Mets the very second reality hits your team.
By the way, it’s going to be bad this year if the Mets fail to make the playoffs. 6 Playoff spots and all that money spent, along with the usual media hype and PR machine. Yep, Mets better make the playoffs otherwise you Mets fans may have to go into exile.
Go Marlins!
BobbyKidd1965
@FishFanBase I understand you’re bored since you already know your team is going to wind up dead last in the standings. But try to motivate yourself a little; see if Taco Bell is hiring so you can finally move out of your parents’ basement.

Watching a Mets game must be like having teeth pulled. They love to run their mouths all offseason but the cavities in their roster will be exposed again soon. It’s probably because their schedule is always free around Halloween. All that candy is bad for you.

You’ve got a good grasp of metaphor, I’ll give you that. You’re just stuck on hyperbolic overdrive.

@mookie
I sure enjoy trolling just as much as them. Difference is that they get bent very easily and have to retort incessantly.
metsie1
This is a great site. All the fans who “aren’t worried about the Mets” run over every time there is Mets related news to tell us that well, “they aren’t worried about the Mets”.
You Can Put It In The Books
When the Mets win it’s, “they have a huge payroll, they should win!”
When the Mets lose or have an injury it’s, “same old Mets, LOL!”
Rinse, repeat.

@metsie1 You’ve never heard me say that. No matter what anyone’s opinion of me is, they know I’m clearly here for the comedy.
