The Braves received disheartening news regarding the health of reliever Luke Jackson, per MLB.com’s Mark Bowman (via Twitter). The team announced MRI results that revealed damage to his ulnar collateral ligament, an injury that often results in Tommy John surgery.
Jackson will explore all the options before making a decision, but Tommy John surgery is certainly within the realm of possibility. In that case, Jackson would not be likely to return until sometime during the 2023 season.
The 30-year-old right-hander is coming off a breakout year for the World Champion Braves. Jackson made 71 appearances, logging 63 2/3 innings, and posted a sparkling 1.98 ERA during the regular season. There may have been some bounces in Jackson’s favor, as fielding independent pitching marked his performance at 3.66 runs per nine innings. Regardless, he recorded a career-high 31 holds in 2021.
The Braves invested heavily in their bullpen this offseason, however, and ought to be able to weather the loss of Jackson. Kenley Jansen, Kirby Yates, and Collin McHugh were all added to the bullpen this winter to balance lefties Will Smith, Tyler Matzek, and A.J. Minter as late game options for Atlanta.

You aways hate hearing this, but AA did a great job with the bullpen. Braves are still in great shape.

Go to the last few posts of the Mets injuries and you’ll see trolling at it’s finest. (including some self-loathing from myself, as even I can’t help but #LOLmets).
But some of you Braves fans here are so extremely hypocritical, sensitive and easily triggered that it’s comical.
LOLmets and LOLbraves. Get over it.

Mr.Books..your reaction isn’t happening in a vacuum. Apparently you are triggered and got emotional and now this is your life. I guess a Braves fan somewhere kicked your puppy. Isn’t their a beer can somewhere that should be making contact with your forehead right about now?

Bad news for Luke Jackson good news is he’ll be paid well and acquire service time. I think since he’s a free agent in 2023 the Braves might have seen the last of Luke Jackson. Considering the Braves have a bunch of pitching near MLB ready. There were definitely times Luke would drive Braves fans nuts. In the end though Luke did help the Braves get a World Series Championship. I hope he recovers well.
bravesfan
Well, that stinks. He came into a real zone last year and has been a solid piece out of the bullpen the last few years (better than most fans give him credit for). Good thing AA loaded the bullpen, but this amplifies my fear the same might happen in the rotation and we are in deep trouble. Wright needs to step up this year. It’s now or never for him. Ynoa, I don’t think he’s truly a starter long term, but hope he repeats last years results. Then need Davidson or Muller to really make it hard to not have them up. Maybe strider also.
If it were me, I’d keep an eye on elder… that dude is gonna be solid for us one day, mark my words. I honestly think he’s ready today. He’s a different breed
phnxdark23
The universe recognizes that Snit will NEVER shy away from overusing Luke, so it has decided to step in. Thanks universe! On a serious note, hate to see this – it was going to be the first time in his career where he could just pitch and not have to worry about being the top righty in a contending pen. Hoping for the best for him, on and off the field.

Some fans might be happy with this but Jackson is a good pen arm for 6th or 7th innings.

Tue, not 8th or to come in in middle 7th. He’s has to start a inning. Struggles with big pressure. Thinks to much, just pitch.

True story. Luke Jackson told Will Smith his wife had a horse face. Smith slapped him across the face, and Jackson fell into an ice machine and damaged the UCL

Will smith needs to stop slapping people

So which Will Smith are we talking about?
Plus gotta say thats a pretty weak joke. Do you want to call a mulligan on that one and try again?

To the few Braves fans that laughed at deGrom’s injury…not so funny now, is it? I hope Jackson doesn’t need surgery, and he gets back in the field ASAP.
samthebravesfan
Trust me, no one is really sweating this that much. Hope Luke heals well, but the truth is the Braves have probably seen his best and it was likely downhill from here.
Aerok
No true baseball fan wanted deGrom to get injured again. All of baseball suffers when the best players don’t play.
TradeAcuna
No one wanted deGrom to be hurt. His injury however hurts the Mets which most people don’t like or want to see win.
As for Jackson, sucks he is out but I’m sure that guaranteed paycheck keeps his spirit up.
Jdt8312
Some did on the thread of that article.
RunDMC
No one’s laughing at deGrom’s injury that isn’t a troll. I want NYM being their strongest so their fans don’t have the same tired “we lead the league on IL” excuse to not winning (@MetsFan22). Would love for them to fly something other than a white flag in Flushing.

There were plenty of Braves fans laughing yesterday over on the thread about the deGrom article.

Only a moron would laugh about deGrom , I think when healthy he is the best pitcher in baseball. I hope the HOF one day votes him in even though he won’t have that many wins. The guy is fantastic , wish he was a Brave.
bravesfan0618
Hate that he’s hurt. Don’t want anyone hurt. But his pitching is such a roller coaster, this might be okay.
bravesfan0618
Pagan with Padres might be available. Cause we all know this won’t be right until he has surgery.

He might be. I don’t care to read any of his trash, but I didn’t realize that muting someone obliterates all threads they’re in. Like to be able to reverse the mute. Better to just ignore his kind.

I hear you Nashville. I haven’t muted anyone. I figure it’s the same as cancel culture. I just do like like a do in real life say there’s someone you don’t like you work around just engage as little as possible. Besides it’s the internet and anyone can be whatever they want on here.

That sucks for that guy. Laughing at a player injury like that is truly juvenile. I hate what happened to Jacob De’Grom up in NY even as a Braves fan

Interesting how people are comparing the loss of Luke Jackson to deGrom. Reaching to fire back I’d say. Oh and don’t look now Max is now hurt. Hamstring injuries tend to linger so oof. But Met fans can keep reaching while met troll Metfan22 remains crying in a dark corner trying to conceal his tears.
48-team MLB
MetsFan22 is under the impression that the Mets have 22 rings. However, if you divide that number by the number of games the Mets will win this year (11), you end up with the actual total. 22/11 = 2.
Now take x (number of consecutive years the Mets have failed to reach the NLDS) to the x (number of championships) power and you get the number of years since the Mets last won a World Series.
6 to the 2nd power (or 6 squared) = 36

Lou trivino for whatever prospects the A’s were unable to get in Matt olson deal

Probably not. Braves have some mil arms that should be able to give them quality ML innings. Brooks Wilson might be a capable replacement for Jackson this season. Could be the next man up.
NashvilleJeff
Hope the Braves give Wilson a chance, but probably just as likely this gives Sean Newcomb a bp spot. He’s out of options and looks like a dfa candidate, but the Braves may decide to let him keep hanging on. Sort of hope not. Like to see them replace Jackson w/another righty arm from the minors.

if you are a true baseball fan of whoever can you root for you don’t laugh about injuries to opposing teams. those who laugh and criticize don’t have a life. I wish nothing but the best for sherzer, degrom, Jackson and whoever else.

I don’t care what team you’re a ‘fan’ of, if you laugh at the injury of any player from any team you aren’t a fan at all, you’re just a moronic idiot that’s probably never played anything apart from games on your computer or hide and seek with yourself.
Jackson was great all year long, apart from his blip in the play offs which Matzek got him out of, that’s why it’s a team game. I am glad the Braves invited O’Day, good depth to cover for Jackson.
I’m going Matzek, Jansen, Smith. Or if the pitcher doesn’t get 6, O’Day/McHugh, Matzek, Jansen, Smith.
