The Blue Jays have sent southpaw Tayler Saucedo to the 10-day injured list with right hip discomfort. Taking his roster spot, Bowden Francis has been brought back to the active roster, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com (via Twitter). Francis was only just optioned to Triple-A yesterday. Saucedo was roughed up in 2 2/3 innings of work, yielding four earned runs and six hits, including three home runs.
- The Blue Jays have a couple of key players that might be coming back soon. Teoscar Hernandez and Hyun Jin Ryu have both returned to baseball activities and could be gearing up for a rehab assignment, per The Athletic’s Kaitlyn McGrath. Ross Stripling has held the line in Ryu’s stead, but the offense could use a jolt of Hernandez’s trademark power.
- Yoan Moncada is beginning his rehab assignment today, per the lineup card posted by the Charlotte Knights’ Twitter account. An oblique strain has kept Moncada out of the lineup for the entirety of the season thus far. 26-year-old Jake Burger has been starting games at third in his stead, slashing .260/.275/.420, good for a 105 wRC+ despite walking at just a 1.9% clip.
- X-rays on Andrew Vaughn’s hand came back negative. He was hit on the hand with a pitch in yesterday’s game. He’s day-to-day for now, per The Athletic’s James Fegan (via Twitter). Vaughn has gotten off to a hot start at the plate, slashing .283/.367/.566 across 60 plate appearances.

I just hate it when those 90+ mph pitches hit your digits. Vaughn is performing well, but those hand injuries can be nasty, all those little bones. Let’s hope this just goes away .

Vaughn needs thicker batting gloves.

Teoscar really fills out the middle of the Jays order. Ryu? Eh, I’m not sold that he’s better than Stripling at this point in his career.
Jobba11
I agree , you look at Strip run of 9 straight starts last summer he only had 2 non competitive, the rest gave a chance to win. Ryu might have more upside but too many non competitive games .

Ryu hasn’t lost any stuff. There’s no reason to think his uncharacteristic lack of control is somehow a result of old age.
bigfatandugly
what is it a result of?

Moncada is not going to move the needle. Him and Burger give you about the same production. And no matter how Stone or boy wonder try to spin it, neither are close to being gold gloves.

Moncada’s presence in the batting order is key to the White Sox’s offense. Believe it or not, Moncada has a really good eye during at bats where opposing pitchers throw their best stuff to him where he takes a lot of pitches where the batter after him gets a good pitch to hit. Moncada was one of the biggest assets to the White Sox’s offense last season when Jimenez, Robert, and Grandal. Moncada’s on base percentage was great for a three month period last season where he was drawing walks to getting hits. It is what it is!
Dogbone
BVT, sounds like the same things you are saying about Moncada, are what you were trying to say about Grandal last year. They are both useless. Grandal doesn’t even seem to be the primary catcher any longer for your ‘boys’ (as Steve Stone LIKES to call them). This Chisox team is a collection of misfits.

Again and again, you tell all of us you’re extremely dumb without telling us you’re extremely dumb. It’s amazing. LOL.

If the White Sox could ever get their entire lineup healthy at once, look out. They’ve just had a huge problem accomplishing that.

You sound like a Mets fan from 2021

That IF is a big word. Why is during spring training hardly no go on the DL. Than the season starts and everyone is getting hurt. They make thousands of dollars a game and play half a season. Bring back the 50s-80s

…and if ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas. Injuries happen, however with the White Sox, I think most more likely occur due to an inept training and conditioning staff (and some using that to milk the system while they sit around all day).. Especially for guys like Moncada who is a walking soft tissue injury and should be monitored closely.. Freak injuries like twisted knees, strained elbows/shoulders can occur, sure. However injuries like hamstring, groin, lat/abdominal, and quad injuries? Those are more likely due to lack of conditioning, or a poor range of exercises (or guys not doing them or doing them correctly). If the player does not want to do said conditioning its up to the org to put the screws to them to enforce it. That’s a lot of money sitting on the bench with the same three or four culprits: Anderson, Jimenez, Robert, and Moncada most times… I guarantee you if they did not have a CBA forbidding lack of pay for these guys on the injured list, many would not have these injuries or they would recover a lot faster from them.

The majority of these players went down in spring training. It’s not like they are purposely sitting out games. That is a pretty poor take.
It’s just been a string of incredibly bad luck for the Sox and their core. The guys who you expect to play together, Robert, Eloy, Moncada, Anderson have played in 10 games together since 2020. That if absolutely f***ING absurd. IF is definitely the right word for this team and truly hope that Sox fans can actually cheer on the team they were expecting and anticipating for years now.
Dogbone
Robert, Eloy have been hurt every year they’ve been playing professionally. And Moncada pretty much every year. That is more than just’bad luck’.
Soft tissue issues? Hummm, maybe too many supplements?
nrd1138
Or its an inept conditioning staff when its the same 3 or 4 guys always having these issues. When that happens you have to start wondering if it really all is ‘bad luck’ especially with a guy like Moncada, who is a walking soft tissue injury and he is not like Trout by the way who when healthy destroys the ball, but a guy who when healthy rarely performs like expected. Then when he finally looks the part.. Ouch, I have another injury… Maybe if he removed the 10 lbs of necklaces around his neck he would not have ‘core’ muscle issues…. If these are legit injuries, why is the conditioning staff not working over time to get this guy right and try to prevent such injuries from occurring in the first place? Im pretty sure ‘Dr Pain’ (Herm Schneider) would have had these guys out playing every day if they wanted to be out there….

The Sox continue to rot from the inside out.
Meanwhile, Carlos Rodon has quietly bern the best pitcher in baseball so far this year. The White Sox’s run as a “contending” team is over before it started thanks to Jerry Reinsdorf’s frugality and cronyism.
hyraxwithaflamethrower
In fairness, he was among baseball’s best pitchers for 2/3 of last year, too. Then fatigue caught up with him and he was toast for the playoffs. I honestly hope he’s healthy for a full year, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
hyraxwithaflamethrower
About time Moncada starts his rehab. Sox could use another batter with the ability and willingness to take a walk every now and then. It seems the impatience is the result of pressing and pressing is the result of failing. I think when the weather heats up, so will the offense. It’s the team’s defense and pitching (looking at you, Keuchel, Bummer, and Hendriks) that concern me more.
