Samuel
Bogarts may not opt-out in 2023.
There is always the chance that he loses a limb in an accident so he takes the $80m over 4 years.
Samuel
Opt-out clauses put MLB franchises in the Insurance business; although they don’t collect premiums.

Don’t bogart that joint, nor limb, my friend
Fever Pitch Guy
I can’t picture Xander getting his arm caught in an elevator door, or tossing a running chainsaw in the air and catching it.

Whether he opts out or not, he won’t be the BoSox SS next year. I’m doubtful he will be a SS for anyone next year. What team, other than Oakland, would XB improve defensively at SS? He’s already getting good money for a 2B, and probably even a 3B. I don’t see Chaim bringing him back if he opts out.
Bruin1012
You must not be familiar with Nick Allen who will be the A’s shortstop sometime this year. He is gold glove caliber defensively.
Jack Marshall
I think the conventional wisdom is dead wrong re Bogaerts. Last time around, he told his agent to make a deal with Boston. His loyalty to the franchise is unique, and he has proven that he cares about more than money. I bet he stays, unless the Red Sox make it clear that they don’t want him.

My guess is they tell him this will be his last year at shortstop, and he can decide from there.
Whiskey and leather balls
Still think the rangers should take on Myers contract with Paddack and maybe a lil cash and send them i dunno, Hauver and Brett Martin? Alexy and Hearn belong in the bullpen anywho so more starters are welcome

Was hoping to get in today’s chat, wanted to ask: Will mlb version of this site be getting the notification bell like the football version? Noticed it the other day and it was nice to be able to go to a reply to my comment (w/ out having to get emails) to follow along to discussion, etc.

You know what really grinds my gears? When people are trying to discredit Trevor Story and they say “He only had a 103 OPS+ while playing half his games in Coors Field.” OPS+ already accounts for park factors. a 103 OPS+ while playing half your games in Coors Field is the same as a 103 OPS+ while playing half your games in any park.
Javia135
Trevor Story had an OPS+ of 103 in 2021? Eric freakin Hosmer had an OPS+ of 104 in 2021! Need I say more?

Haha, the dimwits at 97.5 the Fanatic were talking about moving Nick C. back to 3rd base, with the “he came up as a 3rd baseman” seeming to them to be a convincing case. Funny to see Steve and everyone else with common sense comment on how ridiculous that would be.
