“The Braves seem light in CF , do they add someone before Acura can play the field?”
They’ll definitely will need someone before Acura’s learn the OF…though I think even that would provide more defense than Ozuna.
Joe says...
Brett Gardner is available. Just sayin…
VonPurpleHayes
Brett? Is that you?
bravesiowafan
I’d give Swanson 5/$65-$70 million. Anything more may as well pivot to the top tier

I got three questions answered, holy crap! I disagree on the Astros it being toppled, but that may just be hope talking.
Deleted Userr
Toppled by who? A’s and Angels are non-factors in that division. Rangers added a lot in the offseason but it’s not clear how it will all gel. Mariners look pretty good but the Astros are still loaded even without Correa.
hyraxwithaflamethrower
M’s finished only 5 back and only 2 out of the playoffs. They have a lot of top young talent coming up, got Ray, Winker, Suarez, and more, while the Astros lost Correa. I’m not saying it’ll be a landslide by any stretch, but I don’t think the Astros have already sewn this thing up, either.
gbs42
The Mariners we’re outscored by 51 runs last year. They needed to improve just to have a good shot at a winning record again.

What would a trevor bauer trade look like?
Deleted Userr
It wouldn’t.
BobGibsonFan
I remember when Cano was untradeable.
BobGibsonFan
Holy crap, what happened?
BobGibsonFan
I remember when Cano was untradeable.

I remember when Cano was untradeable.

You know what really grinds my gears? When people are trying to discredit Trevor Story and they say “He only had a 103 OPS+ while playing half his games in Coors Field.” OPS+ already accounts for park factors. a 103 OPS+ while playing half your games in Coors Field is the same as a 103 OPS+ while playing half your games in any park.
And I am about the furthest thing from a Rockies fan…
hyraxwithaflamethrower
Fine, but it’s still a down year for him. That’s barely above average. I’m a little surprised he got that much money, tbh. The glove will translate anywhere, at least, but it’s only a hope the bat comes back.
Deleted Userr
The bat already did come back. Look at his second half in 2021.
Angels & NL West
Don’t sleep on Story. He’s legit. Feels like some comments are from people that haven’t actually seen Story play.
Anyone interested in home/road splits may want to take a look at Castellanos’ career numbers. They are remarkably similar to Story’s. Also look at Castellanos’ home vs road OPS last year.

Why is Montas only a maybe to be traded? What would be the point of keeping him after trading away literally everyone else with any value? He’s not going to gain value as he moves closer to free agency unless he is on a Cy Young pace in the first half or something like that.
Jean Matrac
Because he’s more valuable than the other A’s pitchers. And teams may not want to give what he’s worth. He was arguably their best pitcher last season. Bassitt’s numbers were only marginally better, but Montas pitched 30 more innings.
He has an extra year control over the others. I think it’s doubtful the A’s can get full value. So they may as well hold on to him since the return next season probably won’t be much different from what they would’ve gotten this season.
I think they would trade him if they thought it was full value.
hyraxwithaflamethrower
I think that’s *more* of a reason to trade him. They won’t compete this year, so keeping him wastes a year and lowers their eventual return on him for nothing.
Deleted Userr
@tad2b13 Again. His trade value isn’t going to go up as he moves closer to FA. It is going to go down. And they also run the risk of him getting injured or regressing. If teams aren’t going to give them exactly what they want now they aren’t going to do it ever.
Jean Matrac
I guess you didn’t understand.
I agree, his trade value isn’t going up, but it isn’t about trade value. It’s about the return, which, this season, probably won’t be close to his true value. Most teams do not want to give up their top prospects.
But, the return, at the deadline, or next season, will probably be similar to what they could’ve gotten for him this season, second tier prospects
The A’s do not want to lose a bunch of games if they don’t have to. They aren’t tanking. So they might as well hold on to him, at least until the deadline.
hyraxwithaflamethrower
I don’t know how you can look at them trading Chapman, Olson, Bassitt, and looking to trade Manaea and Montas and not say they’re tanking. They also let Marte go. Who do they really have left?
TroyVan
Kriedler may be the one who makes the Tigers out of Spring Training. He’s already made one spectacular play at 3rd along with a Grand Slam home run.
Small sample size, but if he continues, there’ll be a decision to be made.
