The Nationals have added a pair of analysts to their front office. Washington needs the influx of talent, as their analyst group has been greatly diminished since their championship run in 2019. Carmen Ciardiello and Lee Przybylski are the latest new hires to join research and development, per Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post (via Twitter).
Earlier this winter, the Nats added former players Bill Mueller and Coco Crisp to their on-field player development teams. They also added Jon Weil as a special assistant to help in the scouting department.
The Nationals have typically been content with a smaller-than-normal front office group. These additions, however, amount to a refilling of the coffers more than an expansion. Dougherty covered the Nats’ front office situation in a full piece last December.
Good acquisitions.
It’s about time the Nationals grew a pair………
Rams 28
Bengals 24
Winning Megaball numbers kept to myself.
Are these 2 former MLBTR writers???
It’s not a great sign when your biggest news is the addition of two analysts.
It is when it’s Carmen Ciardiello and Lee Przybylski.
It’s a good thing for Lee that y is a vowel.
It’s a start but the Nationals have a lot of work ahead. I know this is wildly unpopular but the Nationals could get a massive return for Juan Soto now. He’s under control for 3 more years and quite frankly it looks like several years before the Nationals compete in the NL East. I think they should sell high on Soto.
They need to determine prior to the 2023 season if they can sign Soto. If not, trade him. If they had a strong team around him, as they did around Harper, then they can make an argument to keep him and go for a World Series title. They don’t, and it may take them the next 3-5 years to get back to a top team. Soto will probably opt to head out and test the market. If that’s the case, they need to monetize him and get back as many prospects as possible.
They should trade him as soon as possible. They will less and less as time goes by. The reason he should be traded as soon as possible is so that teams that won’t be able to sign him long term can be trade partners and have two years before they have to think about trading him. I am thinking of Tampa Bay right now. Another problem the Nationals have is that Strasburg’s contract is an albatross and will probably go down as one of the worst contracts in baseball. It is a good thing there were only 60 games two years ago. I think it is such a shame Mike Rizzo has hired so many crappy managers. There was Davey the moron who thought it was okay to bring your closer in a game when you were down by eight runs when he would probably be needed the next two games to be played on consecutive days. There was Matt Williams who didn’t know that Jonathan Papelbon and Bryce Harper were going at it. Then there was Johnnie. I don’t care if people like him. He sucks in October. Just recently read Smart Baseball by Keith Law. He wrote that Johnnie was inexplicably being hired by the Nationals. Davey sucked his first year but has improved quite a bit. Now he doesn’t have much of a team. Another suggestion I have is to cut ties with Robles.
