I have seen quite a few Correa to the Phillies posts….around sites…
I wonder how Harper would feel being bumped down on the salary list…? And at 6’4″ 220 also wonder, have only seen him play 10-15 times, how long Correa will stick at ss…?
VonPurpleHayes
I could tell you: he wouldn’t care at all, and would be happy to see the team compete.

Once upon a time Mike Hampton had the richest contract in baseball history. That lasted less than 48 hours. If players are going to be concerned with someone making more than them they are reguarly going to be disappointed
Please, Hammer. Don't hurt 'em.
I agree with Von. When Harper was considered to have an arrogant personality he was very young. I think some people forget how young he was at that time. He dropped out of highschool at 16 to get his GED and go to junior college because he already knew he was going to the majors. He was able to get drafted a year earlier that way and face college pitchers instead of highschool pitchers to prove himself. He was barely 18 when he was drafted first overall. He also had a camera in his face and people telling him how great he was all the time to go along with a millionaires bank account as a teenager. With youth comes immaturity but with age comes maturity.
Harper has a much more mature personality now and has become a positive influence in the clubhouse. He wants to win it all more than anything and I am sure he would welcome the idea of the Phillies bringing in as much talent as possible even if they all got paid much more than him. He has plenty of money and his future earnings are set in stone. He would never be bothered by new players making more than him. He’s on a 13 year contract so I’m sure he knew when he signed that it was bound to happen at some point.
I think Harper’s contract is a little long even for his age. I still think any team would be lucky to have him and especially at his salary. I don’t think his voice in the clubhouse is a detriment at all. At this point I think it is probably an asset. He works hard. He wants to win. He hasn’t been in a dispute with anyone since Papelbon when he was much younger. We all know Papelbon was a jack hole so that was probably more his fault then Harper’s in the first place.

Yawn.

he took more years so the AAV on his contract would be better for salery tax reasons. no, the answer is no.

I don’t see the fit or the need to spend “stupid money” on Correa when the Phillies number 2 prospect is a SS who should be on the team this season. The real needs in the lineup at 3B and CF where free agency is fairly baren and they may need to seek trades to fill those spots
Samuel
@ Rsox;
They could play Maton or Stott at 2B then move Segura to 3B. While Segura did well at 2B last year, he’s a better 3B.
The Phillies also need to improve their offense and Correa would do that.
VonPurpleHayes
@Rsox I’d argue they need a SS much more than a 3B. CF is the biggest need for sure though. Stott can play 2B. Segura can play 3B. Also they still aren’t giving up on Bohm. That being said, I don’t understand where these Correa to Philly rumors are coming from. I just don’t see it at all. I’d take it of course, but this is a Phillies team that fears the luxury tax, whatever that may be after the CBA. They aren’t going over it. Never have.
Jean Matrac
Rsox:
I’d disagree that Correa isn’t a fit for the Phillies, just because they have a prospect, highly ranked or not, that plays SS. BTW, Fangraphs has Stott as their #5 prospect at a 45 FV, and MLB has him ranked 97th overall.
Though I’ll admit that prospect rankings aren’t that reliable, to expect any prospect to come close to Correa’s production would be asking too much. The Phils would be greatly improved adding Correa’s production.
The financial/future commitments may, or may not be the right thing for them, that’s up to Klentak, but as an on-field fit, Correa makes a lot of sense.
VonPurpleHayes
@tad2b13 Agree with everything you said, except Klentak is thankfully not in that role anymore. Dombrowski is the guy.
Jean Matrac
VonPurpleHayes:
Thanks. I can’t believe I forgot that.

I think Rizzo will be kicking himself in the butt for not accepting the extension he turned down from the Cubs. Doesn’t seem like any one believes he’ll get anything close in FA. Would think he’s circle back to the Cubs at some point.
Jean Matrac
His new contract will no doubt be a disappointment. But, if he signs with a contender, and possibly a WS ring, he’ll probably be okay with it. We’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out, before knowing for sure how big a mistake it was.
Samuel
Anthony Rizzo has Jay Bruce written all over him.
He’ll very probably spend his remaining MLB years bouncing around to so-so teams and then being traded at the deadline to a contender looking for a LH bat with some power – as happened in 2021. He’ll have some good stretches.
Nothing bad about it. He can help a contender in that role, and make tens of millions more doing that before he retires.

I wish you guys would advertise when your chats are going to be, I sign on frequently during the day, and I invariably show up an hour after the chat has finished. If you had a banner headline on the site saying, “chat today at 2 PM.” You’d have a lot of happy fans.

Hopefully your Rosario hating drives his price down to a level the Braves can afford to bring him back at, Steve! He was a legend in the playoffs!
bravesiowafan
Omg steve was being honest there are facts to back up what he said. Rosario was great for the playoffs for the Braves but he’s barely a league average player, why would you not want to upgrade after winning a WS?
Tomahawk Takeover
No upgrades are needed. Sign Freeman and Rosario and you’re set. Acuna’s early season return along with the unfortunate return of Ozuna basically has the team set.
stymeedone
Tigers did a great job of getting their SS, Baez, to only a two year deal. Hopefully he will out perform the contract and save them the last 4 years of that contract. He may outperform it for two years but outperforming it over 6 is highly unlikely.
