He was actually a phi locke sopher. I’ll show myself out now.
DarkSide830
Bohm AND Stott for Chapman? yeah, not trading that much for a pow AVG player in a team looking to sell.

Appears Didi is being dismissed for no reason.
But if the Phillies can get Correa, then we’re talking about 2 guys (along with Harper) that can anchor that team for years.
Have liked the Nationals as a long-shot to get Correa. In that case, it would be Soto and Correa.
Am opposed to more than 2 long-term contracts over 4 years for a franchise. Teams need to remain flexible not only year-to-year, but within the season as well. However, as with Harper and Soto, Correa is special. He’s been the best overall SS in MLB for years and is still only 27 years-old. Arguably the best defensive SS in MLB that can bat 3rd or 4th as a run producer.
VonPurpleHayes
Didi has been on the decline for quite some time, but his bat used to make up for it somewhat. His bat seems to be gone too now. So I think the dismissal is fair.
cpdpoet
My hope is that Didi rebounds a bit offensively and the Phillies move him way before the deadline or an injury for another squad, allowing Stott to step in after HIS stint in the minors…….
But all of that is moot if the Phils sign Correa .(whose middle name is Oppenheimer in a true WTF discovery…) as many pundits have offered is a true possibility….
tstats
It’s Carlos Javier Correa but it would be funny if his initials were COC
VonPurpleHayes
While I understand why people see Correa as a fit, I just don’t see it. The Phillies have never gone over the luxury tax threshold despite having an owner who likes to spend. They also desperately need outfielders over a SS. Don’t get me wrong, I think Correa fixes a lot of the Phillies problems, but it just seems unlikely. Also, the Segura for Kimbrel rumors? Terrible IMO. Segura is too much to give up for an aging reliever.
Captain Dunsel
If the Phillies want to sign Correa, they will have to meet his contract demand for a brand new trash can every year.
mlb1225
Gregorius hasn’t been consistently healthy or productive since 2018. He’s slowed down defensively his bat is also slowing down it seems.
DarkSide830
he was in 2020
ChiSoxCity
Yeah, let’s trade Kimbrel for freaking Segura so the Phillies can add Correa, too. Great deal for a contending team like the White Sox. SMDH.
Dumbest thing I’ve read since yesterday on MLBTR.
Deleted_User
Yeahhhhh, Chicago would have been better off declining Kimbrel’s option than trading him for Segura.
VonPurpleHayes
It’s funny, as a Phillies fan I hate that trade for the Phillies and as a White Sox trade you hate it for the Sox.
tstats
I like it for the sox but the Phillies would need a bit more than Kimbrel. Maybe Kimbrel plus a backstop
Samuel
Phillies can get 3-4 relief pitchers for what Kimbrel is making. And Segura is still productive.
Please, Hammer. Don't hurt 'em.
As a fan of neither team I think I would prefer Kimbrel in a vacuum. I’m guessing he gets paid more than Segura though. He’s also a reliever while Segura is a position player. Think of it this way. The White Sox just picked up Kimbrel’s $16 million option. I know they said they would consider trading him but if Segura were a free agent do you think the White Sox would have offered him a 1 year $16 million deal? I doubt it. The whole trading Madrigal for Kimbrel and then picking up Kimbrel’s option wasn’t smart but if they can’t get a decent prospect for him or at least $16 million worth of MLB players they should just hold onto him. Maybe he turns it around again next year and gives La Russa that 8th inning punch. I think Kimbrel has more upside but Segura is a known commodity. We all know Segura isn’t worth $16 million so trading Kimbrel for him now would already be admitting picking up the option was a mistake. The Sox should either trade Kimbrel for prospects or just hold onto him and see if he turns into what La Russa hoped he would be. No other team would trade Madrigal for Kimbrel and then kick in another $16 million so I think the White Sox value him more than anyone else on the market. There isn’t really any way for them to get their money’s worth other than hold onto him and see if he can roll back the clock.
Samuel
@ Please, Hammer. Don’t hurt ’em.;
I never understood the Sox making that trade. It reeks of Kenny Williams. Getting cute and trying to slam the door on the other teams. Like building constant rosters of burly power hitters that can’t play in the field, run the bases, and exhibit low Baseball IQ’s. He already had a top closer.
Why trade a youngster that’s under control for years after coming out of a rebuild and contending for an expensive closer under control for 1.5 years at a top salary for his position? OK, maybe if they had a young 2B ready to step in making Madrigal superfluous. But they didn’t.
The lack of Baseball IQ on the field by the White Sox since Ozzie was forced out is a reflection of the lack of Baseball IQ in the Sox FO. And Ozzie only won early in his tenure by battling is own FO for winning players.
Please, Hammer. Don't hurt 'em.
I agree. I think La Russa had a lot to do with it too. He still values closers like they did when saves first became a stat. People started thinking they had to pay a closer as much as an ace to contend. I think in the White Sox minds they were going all in and Kimbrel was the missing piece that would win it all for them in 2021. They didn’t care about Madrigal because he wasn’t going to play for the rest of the season. It really looks like they only picked up Kimbrel’s option because it would have looked bad to let him walk after trading Madrigal. If they had gotten Kimbrel for a lesser player I bet they turn that option down. It’s not smart. Those two things should have nothing to do with each other. The fact you over paid for a player before isn’t an excuse to over pay for him again. That’s called throwing good money after bad.
Samuel
@ Please, Hammer. Don’t hurt ’em.’
From what I’ve read Larussa was opposed to the move.
As I wrote, the trade was of a sort that the Sox have made under Kenny Williams. That was not Larussa’s MO. Larussa had a closer – perhaps the best in the AL last year. Bringing in another one was in a way questioning Hendriks ability going down the stretch. It was overkill. If they needed another relief pitcher they could have gotten any number of decent set-up men that were traded at the deadline for a lot less than Madrigal and making far less in salary.
Please, Hammer. Don't hurt 'em.
Interesting. I didn’t know that. The White Sox would have been better off QOing Rodon than paying Kimbrel. Rodon probably wouldn’t have accepted to they would have more money and draft picks.

Baseball Trade Values says Nats would be the ones adding to a Hosmer-for-Corbin trade.
And Corbin’s luxury tax hit is $5.3m more.
Samuel
I saw the question and wrote it off. Josh Bell is around for a year @ $9m.
But those 2 bad contracts are why my favorite teams to follow are the Rays, Brewers, Astros, and Guardians…..while I wait to see if the Dodgers will join the Giants in containing the excesses.
The Nationals gave Corbin 6 years and $140m. They got a very good 2019 out of him – he was important in their winning a WS. But the last 2 years he’s sucked, and the Nats are stuck with him for 3 more. As for Hosmer……
–
I believe in FA for proven players that are given a 3-4 year contract (Soto, Correa are exceptions to the rule). Corbin’s “breakout” year in 2018 with the DBacks reminds me of Robbie Ray and Marcus Semien this past year with the Jays. The fact that Ray got 5/$115m after winning the Cy Young shows that teams are slowly waking up. But as Semien and Cory Seager showed – a desperate owner and FO head from a non-producing organization is all a agent needs to find. And I have my doubts abut Kevin Gausman away from the Giants, although Shapiro finally leaned the value of a Catcher that can handle Pitchers and call a game (and forget what he hits) as well as finding a decent pitching coach.
As with past FA off-seasons, the signings will show far more failures than successes. For the life of me I don’t understand the logic of happily paying out primo money for multiple years, fully expecting some of those years to be bad, and the later years to be a possible disaster – which is why I love to watch what the Rays, Brewers, Astros, and Guardians do each year as fans are befuddled by their off-season moves and even more befuddled at their successes the next season. Red Sox under Chiam are heading that way.
Steve Nebraska
I agree with you, Samuel. I totally disagree with the idea that teams should pay players past their prime because “it’s the cost of doing business” or whatever some fans say. The teams who do that are making bad decisions or have so much money it doesn’t matter if they have 30 million in sunk cost for one player. Most teams can’t do that and to suggest everyone should is ridiculous. I am all for players making higher salaries on shorter term deals but the idea of paying players over $30 million during years they are bad is dumb. It hurts the team.
Jean Matrac
Steve Nebraska:
Even though the way you characterize things is spot on, it still doesn’t change the fact that the way it is now is the cost of doing business. And whatever the fans say about it is irrelevant. It’s what FOs say, and they’re the only ones that matter.
They don’t mind that cost, because the value from the most productive seasons are valued more than the bad seasons are considered negative. And in today’s game, if a team refuses to pay someone like Correa for 10 years or whatever, another team will.
Yes veterans, especially at the tail end of their career are overpaid, and can be a hinderance for the roster, but they’re also underpaid when they’re young and under team control.

Posey doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame, but he played for the Giants, so he’ll get in. That’s the way the game is played.
Hot Corner IJ
He is a Catcher and different stats should be considered. He led them to 3 WS rings. He was an oustanding performer. This is coming from a non Giants fan.
Jean Matrac
Wow, what a unique conspiracy theory; if you play for the Giants you get into the HoF. I wonder why Bonds isn’t in then.
Compare Posey to the other catchers who’ve been inducted. He’s not as good with the bat as Piazza, but none are, and Posey was much better behind the plate. As to to rest, Posey is as good as most, and better than others. If Gary Carter is deserving, then Posey is as well.
