Cubs fans need to stop thinking they are signing Correa. It’s never going to happen. They shock the world by signing Stroman to a 2 or 3 year deal after a terrible season and the next logical step in the mind of a Cubs fan is they are going after the most expensive player on the market? $70 million for Stroman is not the same as $325 million for Correa. If anything, the Stroman deal says the Cubs are not interested in giving out the long term contract Correa would require.
Mike LaValliere
As a Cubs fan, I don’t think we’ll sign Correa, and never have thought that.

it isnt the same, but would they be more likely to sign Correa if they had just signed a mega-deal with someone else? I tend to agree that Correa isnt going there, but the suitors are already less then at the start of FS, and those who could still make a big move may not need a SS (ie SEA) or may not want to make a big move at all.

So what teams would be in on Correa? I don’t see NYY going for another big long term contract. Bloom doesn’t like to pay the big bucks, either. Houston has already said no. SF and LAD already have SS. Texas already signed 2 and just don’t see them signing 3. Not a fit in TOR. LAA have the fit but haven’t seemed willing to pay for offense when they have no pitching. Seattle not interested. So why not the Cubs? I see a game of musical chairs with Story and Correa still standing, and unless Houston signs Story, I just don’t see any empty SS chairs that pay the big bucks remaining. If no one is bidding I could see a team like the Cubs signing him for less than expected as he would be a long term investment and could jump start a rebuild. Might fit in MN but it would surprise me.

Angels paid up for Trout and Rendon, but I agree I don’t see Anaheim as a landing spot for Correa. With Scherzer going to the Mets – I kept hearing he wanted to stay on the west coast – almost anything feels plausible this off-season

You didn’t mention the Tigers, or Phils. Yeah, Det. signed Baez, but that doesn’t preclude signing Correa. It would be similar to what the Rangers did. They signed Semien, and then added Seager. And Philly is where I think Correa will sign.
Also, I don’t agree that the Jays aren’t a fit. They lost Semien, and could move Bichette to 2B, opening SS up for Correa.
Those teams, and even teams that aren’t as likely, the Cards and M’s, e.g. are still more likely than the Cubs to sign him.

McCann is getting a raw deal from Mets fans. Catching is the hardest job in MLB – both physically and mentally. McCann can be productive sharing the position as we’ve seen with many other veteran Catchers – particularly those over 30 that have logged long innings for years.
Last year McCann caught about 60% of Mets innings, as well as playing a little 1B. He should be pulled back to catching 45% of innings, with Nido taking 40% and the #3-#4 catchers that show up due to injuries taking the other 15%.
Jean Matrac
Totally agree. As much as I liked Bochy, I think he over-worked Posey. His idea of giving a day off from catching was to play Posey at 1B. That resulted in 7 straight seasons of playing at least 140, and as many as 150 games.
I think part of the reason Posey was so effective this past season was that Kapler gave him regular, real rest. He played 113 games in 2021, and at age 34, was probably the 3rd best of his career.

McCann gets $8 million I loved him with the Sox but he got paid he needs to produce.
