Would an Upton for Kimbral trade make sense for both teams? Is a straight up trade do-able? (Minus the NTC in uptown contract)
Jean Matrac
I think the motivation for trading Kimbrel is to move salary, so trading him for Upton wouldn’t help in that regard.

Marcus Semien would be a perfect fit for the White Sox, but you’ll never hear baseball media drones say this.
Not understanding why people keep asking these guys about the Sox signing good players in free agency. It’s obvious these baseball media types don’t want good players coming to Chicago. If you’re not talking Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, Red Sox or Mets, they really couldn’t care less about you or your team.

@Chi, I am not in a position to say you’re wrong, as your own experience and perceptions speak for themselves. But, it would seem odd that “media types” have a bias for/against any team, whether small market or otherwise. I think they’re just stoked for a good story, regardless of the teams involved. I’d love to see the ChiSox make a good run!!!
ChiSoxCity
Forty seasons as a Chicago sports fan has opened my eyes to a lot of things that most younger fans just wouldn’t understand or agree with. The fact is media bias is real. There are no objective views anymore. It’s all opinions (most of which aren’t rational) that are basically bought and paid for by the factions with the most money. You would never hear any “credible” sports writer whine about small market teams facing off in a championship game or series in the past. Now it’s all you hear if a northeastern or CA team doesn’t make it to the WS. That’s just an example, but it speaks to my point. There are some really good teams out there who are maybe one or two players away from being monsters fir years to come, and the media completely ignores them because they’re not in “the club” of media darlings. Any sentient, thinking fan should be insulted by this crap.

Signing the best free agent catcher a couple years ago is nothing ? Trading for top tier closer , starting pitchers not good enough? Signing one of the best Cuban players we’ve seen not good enough ? Sheesh.
Giants74
The “Media” decides what the Front Office, or Free Agents, are going to do? I think you watch to much tv. Go outside once in awhile. At the very least, turn to channel.
pc01
The media is biased against Chicago sports? I’ve seen some hot takes around here, but that is some next level victim card.
Giants74
Umm…Media Types don’t offer contracts to players. It is the GM that does that. And GMs don’t work for the ‘Media Types’.

You’re a genius. Thanks for illuminating me with your knowledge.

I have read references to Semien being a perfect fit from several “media types” in regards to the White Sox. Why are some fanbases so damn sensitive?
ChiSoxCity
Hmm… why are Chicago baseball fans do damn sensitive? Inquiring minds wanna know.
ChiSoxCity
I think 2 championships during the last 200 years of baseball in the city (100+ on the northside) might have something to do with it. I mean, you’d think there’d be an unreal sense of urgency about turning these thing around. Meanwhile, I get to listen to the media tell me why it’s so important to get Yankees/Red Sox teams in the playoffs every year cuz, “it wouldn’t be baseball without them.”. Are you kidding me?
Jean Matrac
ChiSoxCity:
It appears to me you’re equating players like Semien not signing with the WSox with media types not promoting it. If so, I think that’s flawed logic. If top FAs aren’t signing with certain teams, it’s because those teams aren’t offering the best deal. If the WSox want to sign Semien, they’ll have to top other teams offers. If they do, then it’s hard to imagine them not landing him. But, I wouldn’t blame the media if he signs elsewhere.

So, since the Jays have tried to sign Gausman on two other occasions but to no avail, will the third time be the charm and they get the guy they’ve coveted for the last few years ???
