Mike Foltynewicz, Hunter Wood, and outfielder Jason Martin have elected free agency, per the Rangers. The trio will now hit the open market.
Foltynewicz is the biggest name of the three, though it’s been some time since the right-hander seemingly broke out with Atlanta back in 2018. In his first and only season with the Rangers, Folty was given some leash, making 24 starts and adding four bullpen appearances for a total 139 innings. Folty pitched to a 5.44 ERA/6.02 FIP with a below-average 16.6 percent strikeout rate, though solid 6.1 percent walk rate.
Wood, formerly of the Rays and Indians, made just five appearances with the Rangers, tossing five innings and giving up a pair of earned runs. For his career, the swingman owns a 3.34 ERA/4.09 FIP across 91 2/3 innings.
Martin’s primary claim to fame comes via his inclusion in the trade that sent Gerrit Cole from the Pirates to the Astros. After appearing in the Majors with the Pirates in 2019 and 2020, he was granted free agency, signing with the Rangers. The 26-year-old saw the most playing time of his career in his lone season in Texas, slashing .208/.248/.354 across 154 plate appearances.

And on the anniversary of Folty getting destroyed by the Cardinals in game five of the 2019 nlds

The three wise men, Texas just seems like a dead end
Monkey’s Uncle
Jason Martin has always seemed to me to be the type of player who does a number of things fairly well, but doesn’t do any of them well enough to stick around in the majors. He can run a little, he can field a little, he can hit a homer here and there… but in the meantime you can find someone better.
TheRealMilo
That is a great description of half of the Rangers roster. The other half could be described as who are they and why are they wearing a MLB uniform?
TradeAcuna
Braves fans to this day will keep saying, “but Faulty had an ERA until 3 in 2018,” so he must still have potential.
I think they still believe Teheran is a great pitcher too.
DarkSide830
no one’s saying that…

He lives in an alternative reality where Ozzie Albies sucks and the Phillies are a better run organization than the Braves.
TradeAcuna
You right. I must have dreamt when ppl kept insisting Faulty is good despite me speaking to the contrary.
Haha, the amount of effort ppl take to put words in my mouth. Referring to the last statement (Phils).
Ozzie is a very flawed player though – things you will only see when you actually watch him play.
iverbure
He also said the braves could have a team of all stars but they would still lose because they’re the braves. Imagine thinking that and still being a fan.
TradeAcuna
Sorry, as I stated before, I’m conditioned to them losing in the PS. No joke, when Soler and Freeman were on base yesterday in the first inning, I told myself, “Watch them not score.”
I actually laughed more than got upset when they actually didn’t score. It is frustrating honestly but I guess I’m slowly getting desensitized to it… which I’m happy because I used to get very upset when I was younger. Now it is basically expected. Sucks really!

Your comment lolll
WarkMohlers
If anyone’s son says “Dad, that was a homerun” after a homerun was just hit, I’ll drive that family to the orphanage because that sounds like an obvious sign that the kid isn’t worth raising. Much like dontcomebacktoATL Freeman.
*Dad buys kid hotdog at game*
Kid: This is a hotdog
*Dad slowly puts clenched fist in pocket in silence*

Damn you discovered what literally every fanbase goes through. Crazy

“conditioned to them losing in the PS”
Like being used to having your Lambo eat up all your gas. Woe is me.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Don’tComeBacktoATLFreeman, You are so negative that you come onto a Texas Rangers thread & start bashing the Braves. What is wrong with you? Folty is your excuse?
TradeAcuna
Haha, I saw Faulty’s name and had to comment. His game 5 disaster will always linger in my mind.
trout27
The Braves won an extremely weak Division, but it took until the last few days to clinch. It isn’t surprising to me that they struggle in the Post Season against superior teams.
TradeAcuna
Wait, the NL Central was not weak all season and has nothing to do with Brewer’s inflated pitching statistics?
Their offense is so weak, when they move on, the Dodgers/Giants will crave them up to bits.
TradeAcuna
No, but I have the right to post where and when I want. I don’t need your permission (response to Stooge’s deleted message).
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Oh, God forbid the Dodgers/Giants will “crave them up to bits”
Don’t bogart that joint my friend.
And now you’re commenting on posts I haven’t written. Must be multiple joints & a six pack. You’re having fun tonight my friend.
TradeAcuna
Idk man. I don’t drink or smoke. However, knowing it is 2-0 now and Smith will get the ball in the 9th if the score remains..maybe I should start.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
LOL, as wacky as you are, Smith does make me nervous.
TradeAcuna
He is a perfect example of where statistics don’t show everything. The guy is so bad, it is ridiculous.
WarkMohlers
And with common ground found, Curly and Don’t Come Back realized, maybe, they aren’t so different after all.
Then Don’t Come Back went on about how the Braves should have never gotten rid of Hector Olivera and Chris Johnson should have been signed to a longer extension. And the status quo was maintained.
TradeAcuna
I don’t resort to insults like you, but **** off. As I tell other people, block me and move on. If you are so sensitive to opinions that don’t match yours, just move on and stop responding with your BS assumptions to fit your narrative.
WarkMohlers
If you don’t like me mocking you, then block me.
These aren’t insults, they are carefully curated responses based on your post history. If you don’t put the same effort into your posts, just move on and stop responding with your BS assumptions to fit your narrative.
Edit: that was a quick response. You are proven wrong often without the Braves help. You can stand by what you say all you want, but doesn’t make it any less wrong.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Lmao, we agree on one straw as opposed to the whole bale. Smith is shaky, but “Ozzie is a very flawed player though – things you will only see when you actually watch him play” I don’t agree with at all. Freeman is an Atlanta cornerstone like C. Jones, H Aaron etc. Braves have history & Freeman is a part of that. I’m not negative like Don’tComeBacktoATLFreeman
TradeAcuna
Mocking? Is that what it is? Whatever, I still stand with what I say because the Braves have yet to prove me wrong. Snit is about to take Fried out of the game for no reason other than because. Decides to use Ped now instead of the 9th just because. The complexion of the game might be changing soon.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Oops, I was in left field when this exchange went on. I plead the 5th
TradeAcuna
No worries. The home-plate umpire is keeping you company calling balls and strikes from left field.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Why did he take Fried out? I was typing this nonsense & missed it.
TradeAcuna
To guarantee the Brewers score 1-2 runs so he can use Smith in the 9th in a one-run game.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Your negativity is actually amusing, but I got a feeling the BP won’t throw this one away. Just don’t bring in AJ Minter. Oh crap, I could be wrong.
TradeAcuna
Again, it is conditioning. You just grow to expect it, but I hope you are right.
TradeAcuna
If you thought that was exciting, wait until you see Smith pitch. Send me a 6-pack, please.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
If this fool gets us through the 9th inning, you owe me a joint (a fake one of course)
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Here we go again. This guy makes my heart stop
Double play…..where is my fake joint!!!!!
TradeAcuna
YES! I can now relax tomorrow haha knowing no game is played!
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Crap, I’m getting too old for this
dodger1958
Two children going after one another post after post.
Orioles Fan
The Orioles should jump on Folty and Wood. Both would be an improvement. At least Wood for sure.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
No one should jump on folty wood, admit it, the thrill is gone
sergefunction
Three fruits from the poisonous tree of broke az pitchers and thus a good fit be the O’s if Harvey is there. Even if not.
Rounders
Brandon Crawford for MVP.
davemlaw
Folty had a 4.39 ERA at home in Arlington, a big pitchers ballpark. Not bad but not great either. Someone will take a chance on him. He’s probably better suited to the bullpen at this point but he’s still got MLB potential.
Roper
Rangers possibly sign Folty back to a minor league contract. He had his moments. He impressively hit 97 on the radar gun several times. But he must figure out how to get his pitches to move vertically and horizontally more. Too many gopher balls, as MLB hitters eventually catch up with a 97 mile heater, if it’s always on the same plane.
jorge78
No great loss…..
.
dodger1958
If anyone can “rejuvenate” Folty, it is the Rays. Seems like a reclamation project for them.
