The Phillies have recalled Seranthony Dominguez from Triple-A for the final two games of the season. Connor Brogdon surrenders his roster spot, heading to the 10-day injured list with groin tightness, per the team.
Dominguez makes his return from Tommy John surgery. Still just 26-years-old, Dominguez was going to be a key piece for the Phils bullpen before the injury. He has not appeared in the Majors since 2019. Over his first two seasons, Dominguez flashed potential as a high-leverage arm, making 80 appearances from 2018-19 and logging 82 2/3 innings with a 3.27 ERA/3.20 FIP, 30.2 percent strikeout rate, 10.0 percent walk rate, and very strong 54.8 percent groundball rate.
Brogdon appeared in 56 games this year with a 3.43 ERA/3.77 FIP over 57 2/3 innings. Brogdon picked up 10 holds and a save while accruing 1.0 rWAR/0.7 fWAR as one of the more consistent arms in a much-maligned Philly bullpen.
Brogdon and Dominguez have yet to overlap in the Phillies’ bullpen, but they should both play a role next season. The Phillies maintain team control over Dominguez for the next three seasons and Brogdon for the next five.

Zoinks, Feve! You got me!
Bill Kane
He is a welcome addition. Hope he gets in a game so he can go in the off season with confidence that his rehab is finally over.

His control could use some fine tuning this offseason but otherwise he looks to be back.
DarkSide830
whoooooo Brog is the latest player rushed back too quick from injury.
VonPurpleHayes
I think Connor could be a great bullpen piece down the road. Seranthony looked like a solid closer type until his injury. Happy to see him back.

Wow, the Braves stuck it up the Phills liberty bell. No one is talking about that 3 game series? A Braves fan tried to convince me that Harper was going to win the MVP. Von P, I’ve always admired Harper (& still do, it was painful to watch). Do you still think he has a shot at MVP?
I’ve been watching BB for 64 years. There were many Phil. players that were classic to watch. My favorite was Steve Carlton, he eclipsed 275 innings many times. Harper will probably improve as he gets used to Philly. This post wasn’t meant to diss you, but I don’t care for folks who dismiss the Braves.
VonPurpleHayes
I definitely think Harper deserves serious MVP consideration. The entire team wasn’t hitting, so the Braves could easily throw Harper garbage. They only needed to pitch to him 2 or 3 times. And yes, he struck out those times, but what are you going to do? Hitters don’t always hit.
As for the series itself, I wasn’t at all surprised as the offense seriously struggled once Hoskins went down. The Phillies really had no one to bat behind Harper, so teams just walked him or threw him junk. Segura, who hits before Harper, also fell into a major slump at a bad time.
Trust me, no Phillies fans thought the Phillies were winning that series. We hoped of course, but the entire season told the story: The Phillies aren’t that good. The Braves, post trade deadline, are very solid, and I would not be shocked if they go deep into the postseason. Sure I wanted the Phillies to steal a playoff spot. And quite frankly, if the Phillies played up to their potential they could have, but really the better team won…easily.

Well said VP. The difference in the NL East was AA absolutely hit the nail on the head with his outfield additions at the trade dead line. Rodriquez was another nice add on. Hopefully Phil. can fill some of the holes & increase the competitiveness in the NLE in 2022

The chemistry on the Phillies current roster is horrible. This team and organization have to be one of the worse in the major league’s. Nothing to be excited about and nothing to look forward to. This team has so many holes with so little money (unless they want the luxury tax problem) and no pawns as trade bait and no minor leaguers in the wings to fix it. There are no quick fixes, so they need to rebuild while we wait another 5 years for them to get a great team on the field with star studded minor leaguers waiting in the wings. The best thing the Phillies could do in the off season, is get new ownership with a sincere commitment to winning.

@Bowadoyle I understand the frustration, but the Phillies finished with a winning record despite some key injuries. They are not one of the worst in the league, but they are seriously lacking depth. They have the stars: Wheeler and Harper almost took the team to the playoffs by themselves. The problem is, they don’t have the supporting cast. This is something that can be fixed.
As for hope: They free up a significant amount of money next year with Cutch coming off the books. The trade deadline gave them 2 valuable starters that they still have next year. A rotation of Wheeler, Nola, Suarez, Gibson and Eflin is very promising.
I think DD can make them a contender. They need to improve at CF, SS and 3B. I think these simple moves drastically change the outlook of the team.

VonP, don’t give up on Bohm. Many Braves fans were down on Austin Riley & wanted him out. Look what he’s turned into. Bohm is only 24 & he needs some fine tuning. Riley is a big reason the Braves are in the show this year. I have a feeling Bohm could do that for the Phills.
At SS, you need new blood.
Phillyphanak
When you say “two valuable starters” who they got at the trade deadline, who are you referring to besides Gibson? I don’t know if I’d classify Galvis as terribly valuable.
DadsInDaniaBeach
@Curly, I’ve been around a few days myself.
Your last lines of your post was, “This post wasn’t meant to dis you, but I don’t care for folks who dismiss the Braves@! Yet you did both to the Phillies. Just by your opening line, “Wow, the Braves stuck it up the Phills (sp) Liberty bell. “
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Point taken – sorry your sensitive, but the post was directed towards VonP. & a past thread. He apparently understood even if you didn’t.

The Phillies need a new manager again. You just cant throw away a game every fifth day. I realize that they were eliminated, but your job is to put an entertaining ballclub on the field ,not just say here’s garbage watch the game anyway.
All right first winning season in ten years ,but. that’s not because of Joe . That’s despite him.
VonPurpleHayes
That’s not the fault of the manager. He’s not the one who controls the makeup of the team.
Bowadoyle
I can think of a few games the manager lost this seasons for bad decisions.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
There were many times I thought Snitker made bad decisions this year (like having Smith as our closer). I think the major flaw was not doing quite enough at the trade dead line. The holes need to be filled.
DadsInDaniaBeach
I said some of those same things about Charlie Manuel and I was wrong.
