Well, a Saturday morning chat was nice. Kinda of hard to participate during Church services on Sunday…..

Give it a shot. Just say an extra prayer or two between questions.

Watching Notre Dame counts as attendance too. That’s generally the option I go with.
gbs42
The Yankees and Notre Dame? Lots of history for both teams, though I’m not a fan of either. However, Lou Gehrig is my second-favorite player of all time.
Ducky Buckin Fent
French Catholic raised in NYC. It’s actually fairly common. Used to be anyway. Honestly though, my son & I watch Big 10. & I have to root for The Academy on principle. At the risk of my soul, I don’t watch Notre Dame much anymore.
That’s pretty old school, @gbs42. But now I gotta ask: who is your favorite player then?
gbs42
Ozzie Smith is No. 1 for me, Ducky. I’m a Cardinals fan from birth
Ducky Buckin Fent
I remember, @gbs42.
We’ve been talking or whatever for a year, man. My memory is still ok. I think. Anyway: you & @brodie-bruce are my Cards guys.
Excellent choice. One of my best friends from college is from St Louis. Huge Cardinals fan. He’s the one who broke down how the Cards are the Midwest version of the Yankees to me (I agree with him). The Wizard of Oz is his guy too.
Didn’t he get traded to the Yanks but the commissioner blocked the deal?
gbs42
I’ve never heard of that proposed trade…
Ducky Buckin Fent
Yeah.
I googled it. Zip. So. About my memory being ok…

1:11 Can I convince anyone to take Carlos Santana off my hands?
Mark P
1:12 Probably not outside of a bad contract swap, or if a good prospect to tied to Santana in a package deal.

When Cleveland lets a veteran player go – including what looks like a salary dump – the chances of him doing as well or better with his new team is not good.
Like many franchises – think Rays, Brewers, Giants, Dodgers, etc. Cleveland has an exceptional support system for players – from the manager, coaching staff, video staff, sports psychological consoling, even language assistance and help in doing interviews, to helping players and their families adjust to the area and find housing, doctors, dentists, schools etc. for their children. From there they have a system as to how to play to in order for the players to produce on those roles.
As with the question on the Giants finding pitchers for their starting rotation – sort of the same thing. It’s the key to teams outperforming their individual players images, as well as technical projections of both individual players production each year and the cumulative projection for the team.
Each year “surprise” MLB teams have veteran players that inexplicably “get it”. As Mark noted with the Giants, when it keeps happening year after year then it isn’t luck.
P.S. Making sexy trades and signing name FA’s in the off-season never has the impact most expect.

Sexy trades always work, ask preller

And the Yankees…..Mets…..etc.
Every Spring Fangraphs and Percoda (or whatever their name is) run their computer programs and the teams getting the hot FA’s and trading for guys coming off hot years always come out as contenders to beat (along with predictions from cable TV sports talking heads).
Decades and counting……
Angels & NL West
I can’t see the Angels trading controllable SPs for an OFer. As good as Ketel Marte is, the Angels probably feel pretty good about a Trout/Adell/Marsh OF next year. Also, they are in desperate need of pitching.

Are the deciding on the DH again this winter.
cubbbies15
Are they ruling on DH again this year?

The Cubs cut spending for 2 years because they invested heavily into Wrigley then Covid hit. The Ricketts have a strong record of spending for this team.
