The Phillies made a notable addition to their coaching staff today, hiring former Nationals hitting coach Kevin Long to fill the same position. They’re apparently considering making another noteworthy hire, as Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports the Phillies have discussed bringing back Bobby Dickerson as infield coach. Dickerson spent the 2019 campaign as Phils’ infield coach before joining the Padres as Jayce Tingler’s bench coach entering 2020. Dickerson remains under contract with San Diego, but Padres’ staffers were given permission to explore opportunities elsewhere once Tingler was fired last week. The Phils are on the hunt for a new infield instructor after dismissing Juan Castro.
More on coaching/managing situations around the league:
- The Padres have already been tied to Ron Washington after announcing Tingler’s dismissal. Washington is hoping for that opportunity, telling Robert Murray of FanSided he could “get that team over the hump.” Washington was the runner-up in the Friars’ last managerial hiring cycle, and the baseball lifer would indeed seem to be a good fit on the surface for a San Diego team that has gone with two first-time managers (Andy Green and Tingler, respectively) over the past few seasons. Washington managed the Rangers — where his time in the organization overlapped with that of Padres’ president of baseball operations A.J. Preller — from 2007-14. He’s spent the past few seasons coaching with the A’s and Braves, currently serving as Atlanta’s third base coach.
- In addition to Washington, there’s been some speculation about the possibility of Bruce Bochy returning to manage the Padres, as he did from 1995-2006. Speaking with Chris Russo of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM last week, Bochy said he hadn’t yet been contacted by either of the clubs (San Diego and the Mets) with managerial vacancies. The 66-year-old sounded amenable to considering a return, though, telling Russo he’d “never rule anything out” if contacted. Bochy stopped short of lobbying for an opportunity, telling Russo that pursuing a managerial job is “not something (he’s) thinking about right now,” although he admitted he hasn’t lost his competitive desire over the past couple years. Bochy managed the Giants from 2007-19, leading the club to four postseason appearances and three World Series titles. He stepped away from the manager’s office after the 2019 season, assuming an advisory role in the San Francisco front office, but he’s never formally closed the book on a potential return to the dugout.
- There’s still some uncertainty about the Yankees’ managerial position, as Aaron Boone’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season. Lindsey Adler of the Athletic examines the situation, reporting that the bulk of Boone’s coaching staff (excluding pitching coach Matt Blake and catching coach Tanner Swanson) are also on expiring deals. Boone has had plenty of success over the past few years, leading the team to a 328-218 record and postseason appearances in all four of his seasons at the helm. But the Yankees have had star-studded rosters throughout his tenure and only gotten past the Division Series once in the past four years (losing to the Astros in the 2019 ALCS). Without a World Series or pennant win under his belt, Boone has faced his share of criticism, and there’ll surely be speculation amongst the Yankee fan base about his future until the club announces a formal decision on his status for 2022 and beyond.
TradeAcuna
If the Braves don’t close out the Brewers, Snit needs to be on a hotseat. No way they should let Ron go.
SethHood422
Based on what exactly? Four straight division titles, fresh off of an NLCS appearance, and Snit should be on the hot seat? No Acuna, no Soroka, no D’Arnaud, and still 2021 division champs. What’s your logic?
MasterShake
The Braves are content with division titles and Snit is the perfect manager for that? Thats my guess but NoMadBumnoNLCS here thinks differently than most so you might be in for a treat.
The Mets "Missed WAR"
I hope Wash doesn’t go. He’s one of the biggest reasons the Braves have the best infield in baseball. The Braves won game 3 against the Brewers today and a lot of that was because of infield defense. I credit Wash with that more than any particular player because he’s the one out there teaching it to them and making them practice and grind with emphasis every single day. I hope he doesn’t leave but I also root for him to get another shot at managing so I’m torn.
I saw a YouTube video the other day about the Yankees. It seems a ton of Yankees fans want Boone gone. The funny thing was the video was a list of the most likely replacements for Boone. #1 was Don Mattingly. I know Mattingly used to be a Yankee but… The man already has a job as an MLB manager. He won manager of the year and he is working and helping direct the entire rebuild of the Marlins. He works directly for Kim Ng and Derek Jeter and they allow him to have direct input in the construction of the organizational structure and what players they get. The Marlins already have Mattingly and they want to keep him. Only the Yankees fans would be so arrogant to assume they can just take away some other teams manager who isn’t on the hot seat. Why would Mattingly do that? Turn his back on Derek Jeter and the organization he is helping build himself. Just to go and have Cashman and Steinbrenner tell him every move he has to make like they do with Boone? It’s not like the Yankees would be offering Mattingly a promotion. Why would he break his own contract to do that? The only response I ever got from those guys was: “It’s the Yankees, man. Anyone would leave their job to manage the Yankees.” What arrogance. I know Girardi did it but he was about to get fired anyway. That’s not the case at all with Mattingly. Stop trying to steal other teams managers when it’s obviously never going to happen. Go and get your own manager. Like I said. Yankees fans are the only fans I know of that are arrogant enough to think they can just hire away another teams current manager. They didn’t even act like it would be unusual. They just thought it would be normal for a happy manager doing a great job to break his contract with Derek Jeter just so he could go be a part of their team. It was ridiculous. I have a lot of Yankees fans for friends who are very intelligent and understand when something’s realistic and when it’s not. That whole video and all the commenters replying to it just showed me how absolutely out of touch some Yankees fans really are. They act like just being able to put on their team’s uniform is the lifelong dream of every single player, coach or manager whoever played Major League Baseball. It’s so narcissistic that it’s sad.
Mickey777
With all due respect, it’s unfair to judge millions of people judged on a video where a VERY small percentage are represented.
rocky7
Yes, that video in his mind really sways all us “Yankee fans”, you know the deplorable bunch that root for our team….
The Mets "Missed WAR"
I made a point to say I know some of them personally who never think like that. I was merely pointing out that the worst of Yankees fans are the only fans I know of who ever think like that. No disrespect to the realistic Yankees fans. I have been friends with a lot who really know their baseball. I never said all Yankees fans were like that. I made a point to say that. I merely pointed out that the Yankees organization is the only organization I know of that has any fans that think that way. If you know of any others and can prove it with video links like I can I would love to see them and laugh along with you. I meant no disrespect to the intelligent Yankees fans.
emt2807
Donny Baseball deserves a World Series title. He will never get one as the Marlins skipper. Like it or not, his best chance is to be the Yankee Skipper, where he should have been years ago.
joeseadog
The point as to whether The Hit Man might leave Florida to manage the Yankees that everyone seems to miss is: Does he WANT to come over to the Yankees? The mere fact that THEY WANT him is one point, but if he WANTS to take the opportunity he need only ask out of his contract. In that case The Marlins would not want a manager who didn’t want to be there.
He is not a game piece to be moved around at the will of management team, he has to WANT to make the move. and the fact he is under contract and happy makes that unlikely. Initially the Yankees would have to ask permission to talk to him.
Mickey777
You sound like that old saying, “How can I be prejudice, some of my best friends are Black.” Every team has obnoxious and unrealistic fans. It’s unfair and inaccurate to suggest that only Yankee fans behave this way.
Ducky Buckin Fent
Uh.
Just more generic; “Look at me fellas! I hate the Yankees too!”. Comes with the territory of being a Yankee fan. I’ve met plenty of fellas at the pub who “hate” us too. Even if they aren’t exactly sure why when it comes down to it.
{yawn}
The Mets "Missed WAR"
@Mickey777, @rocky7, @joseadog, @Ducky Buckin Fent, @gata: I need to direct you no further than this exact thread to prove my point. Look at what emt2807 just said. You think he’s the only Yankees fan that thinks or talks that way? He literally just proved my point and you guys completely ignored it. My point was that I have met tons of people who act like that and from my personal experience they have all been Yankees fans. I’m sure there are other fans but I just haven’t seen them. Nothing big wrong with pointing out the truth though. I mean man… Look at what he just said about a manager who is very happy working for the team he helped build: “Donny Baseball deserves a World Series title. He will never get one as the Marlins skipper (even though the Marlins beat the Yankees to win the title). Like it or not his best chance is to be the Yankee skipper, where he should have been years ago.”
Don’t get mad at me for stating the truth. Get mad at arrogant idiots like him for making it true. Do you know how many Yankees fans think like he does? Thousands. Most teams don’t have that problem with their fan base. I’m not saying you guys are like that. He clearly is though and he is nowhere near alone. That’s all I was saying. Don’t get mad at me for noticing some of your co-fans are arrogant idiots. I didn’t even have to notice him. All I had to do was mention how idiotic some of their opinions were and low and behold one of them just happened to immediately show up. That’s how common it is.

A lot of silly things on the internet, but this…
Cohens_Wallet
Would love Bochy with the Mets but we all know how hard is it to get good names to work with this organization. I fully understand why. Might have to change the narrative on our own, however long that may take.
coolhandneil
Probably doesn’t matter since he prefers to be on the west coast.
prov356
cool – How do you know Bochy prefers the west coast?
RunDMC
I’ve never been to the west coast and I prefer the west coast.
prov356
Not everyone does. I’m just wondering the source of his statement.
Miles1002
The only reason I can see is that his entire career has been on the west coast. Or at least, the last 25 years. San Diego and then SF. And I do know that he currently lives in San Diego. It just makes sense that he would prefer to stay on the west coast..
prov356
I agree. Cool made a statement that sounded like Bochy told him his preference personally. He may have made a statement but I haven’t heard it. Just curious.
Tom_Bombadil
I am Bruce Bochy. I have retired and also hate the East coast. Please leave me alone.
The Mets "Missed WAR"
I don’t know if I’ve heard that directly but I have always at least been under the same impression Bochy specifically would prefer to manage in the state of California. He’s retired and has grandkids now and likely wants to be around his family. He doesn’t really have anything to prove. He seems like the kind of guy that wouldn’t mind managing again but could take it or leave it. He wants to see his family more than he wants to manage baseball. My belief is that he’s only willing to manage baseball if he can do both at the same time. I suspect moving all the way out to the east coast for most of the year would be out of the question for him and he would prefer to just retire. Lou Pinella was the same way. He asked to be traded as a manager from a great team at the time in the Mariners to a terrible team at the time in the Devil Rays all because he wanted to work closer to his Florida home. It’s a common thing with proven older managers around retirement/grandpa age. If Bochy wanted to manage so bad that he would be willing to work thousands of miles away from home he would have started managing again a long time ago. Ron Washington is one grandpa age guy who wants to manage so bad he would move anywhere to do it. Bochy doesn’t miss it as much as Wash though. I really think almost any team would be lucky to have Wash. There is some guy on these comments that always refers to an affair and positive drug test Wash had a decade ago as a reason why he should never be allowed to manage again. I think that guy is an idiot who loves to point out people’s past mistakes because it makes him feel better than himself. Wash deserves another shot.
chalk73
He lives in Poway, California which is in San Diego County
sergefunction
Oh yeah? Quick. What’s your hat size?
5TUNT1N
One of Bochys sons lives near the east coast (could be more centrally located) I think now and he splits his time between the coasts now. So his wife and him can see all the grand kids.
rocky7
So much for “preferring to live on the West Coast” (California) according to our new expert on anything baseball..Mr Met!
Anxiously waiting for your next MLB news!
Steve Garvey's Son
Stunt man and Rock Brain–
Since 1983 Bochy has lived, played, coached, managed, retired on the West Coast. Yeah, he does visit family living elsewhere. A lot of people get in planes and rent hotels. Especially people with money. Oh, I wanted to add this to your guys’ mix — he coached the French team. Maybe that means something to you guys?
BeforeMcCourt
I mean, the last 38 years of one mans life following the same pattern isn’t enough of a suggestion to make an inference regarding his personal preference?
YankeesBleacherCreature
Where does this narrative seriously come from? Everyone (Scott is probably next) but Alderson are gone since Cohen bought the team. The Mets are in a big market with an owner which bought damaged goods is now willing to repair and establish a winner.
VonPurpleHayes
Don’t see much reason for Bochy to come back. He’s done it all.
paddyo furnichuh
The main reason is that when he stepped away from managing the Giants, Bochy said he was not retiring but stepping away for a year or so.
DarkSide830
and now Mets fans will think they can get Bochy. maybe they can get Connie Mack into the fold as well.
Bart Harley Jarvis
Excellent point! A manager dressed in a suit and straw Panama hat in the Mets dugout might raise the dignity level desperately needed by a downtrodden organization.
JoeBrady
Aww dude, nice idea, but wrong guy. Minnie Minosa would’ve been the man.. He’s Latino, so they could help, and he was larger than life, riding around topless with his Panama hat.. All the current Mets players could thrive in his shadow. He’s no longer with us, but I fully endorse him (and his HOF vote).
rocky7
Yes, ask Mr Met above and he’ll tell you Gil Hodges is probably in play too!
Ducky Buckin Fent
Ain’t just mets fans hoping they can get Bochy, @Dark.
Miles1002
It would make sense for both of these teams (Mets & Padres) to hire some baseball lifers as managers. I think one of the biggest problems in both clubhouses this season was a lack of leadership.
When the Padres got down, Tingler didn’t have the ability to pull them out of the spiral. I know a lot of this is on the players but a first time manager just couldn’t do it. Bochy and Washington make a ton of sense for them. I would also think that Mike Scioscia would be a great fit.
As for the Mets, anytime you boo your own fans, especially your supposed “two best players”, no matter what the reason, you’re clearly lacking someone hitting you over the head. I’d love to see Buck Showalter get a chance to be in the manager chair.
J.H.
Washington would be a fantastic hire for the Padres. All that past stuff is way overblown; he’s been a respected baseball guy for so long with some pretty good teams before and especially after all that drama, and players love him. Another guy I thought might make some sense there is Mike Scioscia, a respected player’s coach who actually has the track record to back it up.
Mickey777
Add me to the list of Yank
ee fans that feel Boone must go.
Bigger problem is indifferent ownership and a GM who’s time has come to depart.
jmlang
we’ll trade you Mozeliak for Cashman, He couldn’t do any worse
sergefunction
Throw in Moniak and it’s still no.
Yankee Clipper
Mickey, seems like fate helped Hal when he couldn’t help himself…. Everyone’s contract expires except Matt Blake and Tanner Swanson – that’s called a hint……..
luclusciano
Not necessarily fate, they hired Boone to a contract. He hired the managers. If they were planning to get a new manager, why would they give longer contracts to the bench coaches? And Cash has another year, but they will probably just promote him to the front office.
Yankee Clipper
I was kidding, but to be honest, I don’t think the next guy will be *much (operative word) better than Boone if they stick to analytics over observation.
Here’s what I mean – I look at the way Yankees currently use analytics as analogous to viewing matchups between teams on paper. We can look at past performance, output, matchups, etc, and make an educated guess as to which team will win a series. But they still play games and different outcomes occur with great frequency. Boon sticks to the paper….maybe that’s the expectation. If it is, bringing in a guy like Showalter would be a failure because he would likely bump heads with the front office while making better in-game decisions.
For a ‘21 manager, Boone really isn’t bad. With more experience he may be good. For the Yankees to win, I think they ultimately need to move on from him. The team has only regressed since Girardi left.
And, Boone does deserve a lot of credit for keeping the team in playoff contention during these years of injuries and tumult.
Let’s go Yankees! #SpendHalsMoney
Ducky Buckin Fent
I am only down on Cash in re to how much influence he has throughout the organization – particularly in the dugout. He needs to get out of there.
He is a big market GM.
& as such, he is pretty good. We rock $200MM payrolls. So; “2 billion dollars & no title!” gets a lot of play in YankeeLand. But just look at our own division, man. We have seen Bos, Tor, & Bal all enter a season with high payrolls only to finish in last. Look at the NL this year: Chi, SD, Wash, all had high payrolls, yet all 3 crashed & burned.
Cash has gone 21/24 when it comes to making the playoffs. He has never had a losing season. That is a good record, @Mickey777.
Le Booner – however – certainly appears to be in over his head. He is also Cash’s on-field yes man, so we will never know if he is actually a good manager or not. But a proven, veteran manager is pretty high on my personal offseason Wish List.
bbatardo
Washington was a finalist last time… Somewhat surprised they didn’t hire him back then, but now they have another shot. I think Bochy would like managing in SD since he still lives there.
GASoxFan
If Washington gets hired they need to introduce walk-out music for managers making pitching changes.
Eric Clapton has the perfect song….
LordD99
The addition of Long is a Girardi pick, which is a clear signal he’ll be back. Not that anyone should think he wasn’t, but I did see some speculation here.
matt11209
Cashman needs to be the first one to go, before Boone.
Ancient Pistol
This X 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.857493793903928
boggie77
Steinbrenner doesn’t have the guts to do that. You are 100 % correct but a pipe dream ! Nothing will change as long as he is there.
luclusciano
Man – Hal is going to figure out how to get Cashman in monument park. He does need to go, but his one more year on a contract will mean, one more year of risky moves that don’t really pay off – mainly in starting pitching.
Yankee Clipper
Cashman IS talented. He swings really good trades and found several proverbial diamonds in the rough.
I believe Cashman’s weakness is his propensity for viewing each trade as win/lose versus how it best impacts the team, and in each trade he looks for the most massive, hulk-like, violent-swinging batter.
He’s very capable, he just needs to change his perspective. But, he built this team, so he owns the failures.
Rsox
Boone is Cashman’s sword to fall on much like Tingler was Preller’s. A manager who came out of the broadcast booth with zero coaching experience. Preller sacrificed Tingler to save himself but will Cashman have to do the same?
Unfortunately the junior Steinbrenner’s don’t seem to posses their father’s win-at-all-costs mentality which would have cost Cashman his job years ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hal signed them both to new contracts
Yankee Clipper
RSox, I think you make some very sound points in this post.
JLML57
Let’s hire a drug addict in Ron Washington.. He sucks as a manager. But if you give him some drugs, cocaine, you never know.
Orioles Fan
Dude everyone makes mistakes in life. Washington is a good baseball guy and he can manage. Just ask the Rangers
Deleted_User
“Mistake?” So did he trip and fall and land with his face in a pile of coke?
Yankee Clipper
You never know, maybe he can bring back the ‘86 Mets…..culture. They won…..and were energetic too!
stpbaseball
a poor decision that you regret can absolutely be called a mistake. what you keep describing, over and over and over is an accident. learn english before being so incredibly condescending
dodger1958
Not a mistake. It was an on purpose. Rather than a “mistake” it reflected a conscious poor decision reflecting on his decision making process. There also was an further indications of either sexual harassment and/or marital infidelity which lead to his quitting on his team. Again, reflecting on poor decision making and upon his overall mental makeup.
Deleted_User
@stpbaseball Not a mistake but rather, a sign of poor moral character. He knew exactly what he was doing, knew it was wrong and did it anyway.
Darryl Rose
You really don’t understand what mistake means do you? Many of us make mistakes and the decision was also made on purpose.
For example some people make the mistake of cheating on their spouse.
They were aware of their actions at the time. They didn’t just wake up inside another person.
Deleted_User
@Darryl Rose Cheating on your spouse isn’t a mistake either. It’s a choice. And if you make that choice there is something wrong with you.
luclusciano
Hmmmm… what’s another name for poor decision making?? Is it an error… a slip? A blunder? Oh, a mistake.
Sherm623
@drose Maybe they fell face first onto her…
YankeesBleacherCreature
@Remove There are way worse things that people in MLB have done than Ron Washington. He owned up to it right away and the Texas org. and players supported him. Don’t be so naive to think that people don’t change and deserve a second chance.
Darryl Rose
That can happen. I stand corrected
Darryl Rose
It’s hilarious watching you triple down on the same nonsense. Watching you squirm around the definition of mistake is like watching Clinton say it depends on what your definition of is … Is.
I wont follow you down the rabbit hole of your judgement of others. We all recognize your type and it’s very easy to lead a perfect life and sit in judgement of others when you are some stranger on the internet. Your mirror likely tells a very different story. And no doubt you will now feel the need to tell us how moral you are. Pretending to be better than you actually are will temporarily make you feel better about your true life but offers nothing to the discussion of coaching options.
Eddiev 2
yea and make Gooden pitching coach

Nice to know that you’ve never done anything wrong. Out here (in the real world), everyone has a skeletron in their closet.
But that said, I assume that you never pot or any other illegal drug, or drank underage, etc.
luclusciano
@joebrady, I want a skeletron. (Sorry, couldn’t resist). Yeah – we have all done something wrong, and second chances are vital in life, especially when you work to do right.
Sherm623
@luc a skeletron is a big tv made from bones. Or a character from He-Man. I can’t remember which.
GASoxFan
@joebrady, luclusciano, bleachercreature, dawgs, etal.
I asked last time Ron’s name was floated around and got likes, but no rebuttals.
We live in a world these days where a single poor decision of spoken or written word a decade or more ago leads to termination or forced resignation. A “mistake” if you will that wasn’t repeated. Cite most recently to Gruden.
So. Why are we supposed to give drug addicts, spouse beaters, manslaughterers, etc second or third chances, ESPECIALLY more so in positions of authority like a manager where they are supposed to provide leadership to groups of young and impressionable ballplayers (think your intl players especially who are just teens) among others? We clearly don’t do it with someone who made their ‘mistake’ in a different time when the infraction was considered less unacceptable than it is today.
Before addiction you begin with a willing CHOICE, not an accident, unless dealing with a newborn. (And for the record, cocaine was not acceptable when Washington did it, and he was certainly not young enough to be absorbing it from his mother’s womb.)
GASoxFan
I’ll also preempt – gruden. At least, sent more than one email, while Washington, at least, snorted more than a single bump of coke.
Dawgs #1
So you obviously don’t know much. It was long ago history and 2 time WS appearances. Glad you never made a mistake in life or your place of employment wouldn’t need you either

Off the wall outta left field idea. Washington manages the Padres, Bochy and Nevin bench coaches. Bring back Balsley. Yeah this has no chance at happening but the braintrust and years of experience on the staff would be phenomenal. If only MLB2k were a reality

Bigtimeyankeefan
I’m response to the Mets missed war… I’m a die hard yankee fan and while their are some managers who I would love to have manage the Yankees, don mattingly is certainly not one of them. What has he done as manager? I know he brought the Marlins to the playoffs last year. But ahem, his team backed in due to expanded playoffs, they played poorly in the end, and
Lastly made it to post season during a 60 game season. Surely no one would expected them to make the playoffs of the season were 162 games. And if they were really good enough last year, then wow they sure went backwards this year. Yes, another fine endorsement of Donnie baseball as manager. Thanks but no thanks… steal another teams manager… maybe cash or Cora not mattingly
dodger1958
Why would Bochy, who has HOF credentials want to be involved with pretty dysfunctional organizations like the Pads or Mets? I can’t imagine he is hurting for $. He has nothing to prove. I met him one time in a Hawaii, he was very say going and down to earth.
Orel Saxhiser
Bochy’s career record as a manager is 26 games under .500 (2,003 wins and 2,029 losses). Why would he choose to worsen that record by managing a team like the Mets?
driftcat28 2
Yankees cannot bring Boone back. He’s so out of touch in games it’s embarrassing
Yankee-4-Lifer 75
@driftcat28 2- Aaron Boone might be one of the worst managers I’ve seen. He is a lost cause. He must go.
Orel Saxhiser
Boone has spent his entire adult life in professional baseball. You guys have spent yours watching games on TV while guzzling beer. Just a hunch that he knows more about managing a baseball team than the beer-belly twins.
Yankee Clipper
Boone may be more in-touch than we realize. Although that’s our perception, we have no idea what he’s been told his expectations are. Now, I certainly see where that seems readily apparent, ie: bullpen management, where he goes through a systematic usage of the guys, whether or not they’re pitching well…until someone blows up the game.
Honestly, he may be doing precisely what he is supposed to. It seems counterintuitive because we only care about winning, but, it’s a different age brothers.
PadresFanny
If Yankees fire Boone their front office is stupid. They will get there soon.
boggie77
Spoken like a true knowledge baseball fan. Maybe you can steal him for your team. Best of luck !
Yankee-4-Lifer 75
@boggie77- I really hope someone can steal him for their team season. Buck Showalter is definitely the answer for the Yankees.
Yankee Clipper
Yankee4Life: I could not agree more with Bucky S. They just have to give him enough leash and trust his judgment.
Boggie77: Don’t blame him, he’s a Padres fan. They have no manager….at all.
Orel Saxhiser
Another beer-guzzling baseball expert. Oh, those sophisticated New Yawk spawts fanzzzz….burp.
Yankee Clipper
I’m so glad that you’re that judgmental, but, I spent all of my young adult life playing baseball.
You, sir, are the epitome of pot & kettle, glass-house rock-thrower, baseless judgmentalist, and the only opinion that’s worthwhile in any discussion, is of course….yours. I think that is a classic definition of narcissism / self-absorbed, etc.
Mike Tyson boxed for his entire life, doesn’t mean he’d make a great cornerman. Thanks for your OPINION though, Cey Hey, it’s always welcomed by open-minded folks.
Orel Saxhiser
Nah, I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong. My Robbie Ray apologies are classic examples. Boone has done nothing but when as Yankees manager. If not for an uncommon rash of injuries during a year where he still led the Yankees to 100-plus wins and the Astros’ shenanigans, who knows what his teams might have accomplished. Regardless, it’s not just about the post-season.
Yankee Clipper
And if you actually read my posts you’d see I commented on that and whether he was the right person to fire. But, I guess reading is too difficult a thing for some people.
billysbballz
Boone has to go and the Yanks need someone like Buck!
Yankee-4-Lifer 75
@billysbballz- no, not someone like Buck! They actually need Buck to manage next season!
mlbnyyfan
I want Buck back as well but I don’t think the Yankees want him. Yankees all about analytics now and Buck won’t manage that way.

Orel Saxhiser
Yankee Clipper, I’m not a fire-the-manager person. What beer do you drink that makes you such a baseball expert?
Yankee Clipper
I only am a fire-the-manager when he deserves it for failing to meet expectations. I never said to fire Boone. His contract expires and I feel they need to move on IF his decisions were not orchestrated by someone above him. You may learn the difference between a firing, and a non-renewal of contract. It will benefit you greatly when trying to posit your ideas, or when trying to insult someone…. And failing, miserably.
I don’t drink, at all, for fear of posting comment like you do.

Yankees fans overrate the talent on the team.
Yankee Clipper
How can we say we need to get better and be overrating the team? You are so lost when talking to Yankees fans it’s embarrassing. What’s more embarrassing is that you don’t realize it.
Try r-e-a-d-i-n-g for a change and you’ll see that most of us value the team as a 95-win team that needs to improve. In fact, most Yankees fans are calling for a different GM because we are currently the third, arguably fourth, best team in the ALE.

The Yankees should keep Boone. The Mets should hire Rick Renteria since he’s used to getting fired and whoever manages Quick Fix Mets v.2.0 will have to be scapegoated. Padres are a complex situation I don’t know enough about, but my guess from afar is that the 2022 roster plus a manager who can handle a clubhouse could easily do what they were supposed to do this year.

I’m here to read all the posts by Red Sox fans admitting they were wrong last winter about Bloom being in over his head and Keekay not being worthy of a two-year, $14M contract. Which ones have checked in so far?

This Red Sox fan has never wavered, I like Cora and Bloom, I like the moves they’ve made. Not all of them worked out but that’s never the case. In fact, they just beat a really good team. I would be pulling for the Rays to win it all if they had won this series. But the Red Sox won it and are moving on. Good year so far.

We can both name fans who belabored those two points all winter long. As a Dodger fan, I thought the Keekay Sucks people are/were idiots. Statistics aren’t the only measure of a player’s value. I miss Keekay but understand why it happened. It’s great when guys like him prove the negative nellies wrong. Keekay, Verdugo, Pederson, Grandal, and now Wood are all kicking butt this post-season and I’m thrilled for all of them. Meanwhile, the team they no longer play for is doing just fine.

After Cash’s atrocious managing tonight— elimination game in the bottom of the 9th, and he elects to pitch to the hottest bat in the playoffs with runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out—it’s clear. The era of knowing the game and percentages has been replaced by computer read outs.

This was inexplicable no matter your perspective.

I’m 47 years old and a Yankees fan all my life. All you Yankees fans blaming Brian Cashman are complete idiots. He is told what he can spend and has to deal with it. There is 2 problems with the Yankees Aaron Boone who keeps putting the idiots out there like Andrew Heaney and Hal Steinbrenner who puts on a limit what Cashman could spend. Be the evil empire you should be or sell Hal bottom line
Yankee Clipper
Yeah, I’m digging this. But, Cashman does construct the roster within that budget. He’s failed to sell high on guys before they regress and he’s maintained too much of a one-dimensional right-handed team, very unlike the 90s Yankees.

As a lifelong yankee fan… I absolutely would love to see Don Mattingly.. I think it will be his only chance to win a World Series. I don’t want Buck or Bochy.. about Cash. I think he’s done well and I would say if they could hire Theo that’s the only way that Cash goes away. Who is a better gm besides Theo? What we need to do is trade for Olson to play first and sign Simien to play short. That gives us 2 lefty bats in middle of lineup.. hopefully healthy jusge and Stanton Dj with a comeback Sevy should be back.. Cole jordy I mean if they are gonna go for it. max Scherzer is the only way to go
But Boone needs to go. We need a manager not a friend to the players
LordD99
I’ve never heard anyone mention Mattingly outside of this thread. Showalter is a vastly superior tactical manager.

Kevin Long is a great hire for the Phillies he has great reputation and has been very good wherever he has been,If Dickerson does comeback that is another good move. Now if they
can get some pitching starters and relief help
