Mets would have won 97-103 games this year.

XD
VonPurpleHayes
Mets would have been good if they weren’t bad.
cards81
Cardinals are better than the Mets
MetsFan22
That’s not even remotely close to accurate… easier division and way healthier team.
VonPurpleHayes
Easier division? Lol. NL East sucked.
BobGibsonFan
Tigers are better than the mets.

What is it like being the most known account on mlbtr? Feel like that can legit go on your resume

If your aunt had testicles…
tedtheodorelogan
But they didn’t, because they suck.
jdgoat
Are you crazy? They were winning 117 easily
Ducky Buckin Fent
Meanwhile, in the Real World, the Yanks (best team in NYC – of course) just won their 6th straight.
gbs42
That’s not even remotely close to accurate… injuries certainly play a part, but do they really turn this team from a 100-game winner into one with a losing record?
Jean Matrac
Maybe the Mets could have won 90-95 games if no one got hurt, but when has that ever happened? There’s a number of teams that could win that many games if they could stay healthy all year. No team can, or ever will be, 100% healthy, 100% of the season.
The Mets have some good to great players, but so do the Angels, and Padres. Good teams have depth. If your team doesn’t have enough depth to stay even reasonably competitive despite the injuries, it’s not a good team, and teams that aren’t good don’t win 97-103 games..

300 game season?
Balk
Who do you think wins the NL West?
Gmen777
A potential Belt injury would help the Dodgers but I feel the Dodgers chances of winning are pretty slim at this point. Giants play the Dbacks and Padres in San Fran while the Dodgers play the Padres and the Brewers in LA. If the Giants go 4-2 in those last six (I think they’ll go 5-1 personally) the Dodgers would have to win ALL 6 games just to get to the tiebreaker. Giants would have to really fudge it up at this point

Sounds like a great idea for a contest. Finish this sentence:
“Mets would have won 97-103 games this year, if…”

Mets would be 97-103 if MLB expanded seasons to 200-game seasons, no matter how many times Cohen tweeted or paid in the off-season.

One question no one has ever asked that Ive read is why is there 162 games in a season? That is way way way too many games. One game in the long run means nothing. Why doesnt baseball consider making the schedule significantly shorter to increase the sense of urgency for every game? The 60 game covid schedule obviously isnt long enough but wouldnt maybe an 81 game season be a lot better? I understand its probably about the money and it wont change but I just believe the length of the season is ridiculous.
rememberthecoop
Not to be sparky here, but perhaps the reason is that it is thw most obvious answer of all time. Money. Moolah. Cold hard cabbage.
DarkSide830
how is 162 being too long anything but a matter of opinion? I like baseball and want to see as much of it as possible.
TroyVan
I wish that they would do a tournament leading up to the All-Star Game. Each division does a weekend double elimination tournament and sends one team to the All-Star Game where the finals take place. Give the teams their time off after the ASG.
bhambrave
So basically you’re saying that you aren’t a baseball fan. The NBA is too long. Baseball is not. I like 162. I could see them dropping back to 154 and expanding the playoffs. I wouldn’t like it, but I could see it.
Jean Matrac
It’s long because of the nature of baseball. Teams with bad records take 2 out of 3 from teams at the top of the standings all the time. You need a long season so that all the luck and vagaries of the game even out somewhat.
That’s why I hate the 1-game WC. It’s an artificially applied format to try and duplicate the 1-game tie-breakers. Those were exciting, but having it as the regular WC format takes away what was special about a tie-breaker. Baseball is based on playing series, and in baseball the worst team in the PS can beat a better team in one game.
I would actually like to see the regular season go back to 154 games, with a 3-5 game WC playoff, and 7 gamers the rest of the way.
bhambrave
If you don’t want to go a 1 game WC, win your division. The WC is just a second chance for teams that failed in their division. That said, we need a balanced schedule, and should get rid of inter-league play.

If he was healthy and pitched in the American League, of course it would be Jacob deGrom. At least that’s what MetsFan22 probably would say.
DarkSide830
well he’s probably be right. granted, none of those things are true.
rememberthecoop
Scott Harris isn’t likely going anywhere. He’s been a GM for like a minute; who is going to give a POBO to a guy with that little relative experience? Not to mention that Harris left the Cubs to go back home to SF. This is his dream org.

The Mets seem like those who would make this rash move

Thanks for taking my question about whether the Tigers go get a SS or wait to see if Kreidler is their answer. I agree that he makes for an interesting trade piece, but I feel like they will regret trading him. I don’t think he’s a flash in the pan. Not saying he’s going to be a superstar, but I can see him having a long and productive career.
I think they should keep the platoon thing going where they ride the hot bat. I just hate to see them depend on free agents and waste payroll when they could probably do just fine with what they have.
Jean Matrac
Not sure the Tigers should try and save payroll, and go with what they have. That’s not the formula that has won teams a WS title. All the best teams have a solid home-grown core, but that’s supplemented by trades and FAs.
I’m not that familiar with their prospects, though I know they’re highly regarded. But I would think it impossible to build a club, even with a bunch of good prospects, that could win a title without upgrading some areas with FAs.
Hot Corner IJ
Troy, I agree with you that he looks like a potential star. Get Iggy or Galvis. Then when Kreidler is ready bring him up. Spend the money on SP, a couple of bullpen pieces, another catcher, and a lefty bat. Haase can pickup time in LF and first base.
