8:34PM: “In my heart of hearts, I really do think I’m going to be back this season,” Nimmo told MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo and other reporters. Nimmo also noted that his hamstring injury impacted his muscle, rather than a tendon.
5:28PM: Prior to the second game of their doubleheader with the Nationals, the Mets have placed outfielder Brandon Nimmo on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. Travis Blankenhorn has been called up to take Nimmo’s roster spot. Nimmo made an early exit from the first game, leaving in the second inning after going 2-for-2 with a stolen base during his brief time on the field.
Nimmo is now hitting .302/.420/.415 with five home runs over 320 plate appearances this season, continuing his outstanding work out of the leadoff spot in New York’s lineup. Nimmo has basically done nothing but hit over his six MLB seasons, though staying healthy has been a consistent problem. This season alone, Nimmo missed close to two months due to a finger ligament issue.
Kevin Pillar and Albert Almora figure to get most of the center field duty while Nimmo is out. Michael Conforto is the everyday right fielder and Dominic Smith and Jeff McNeil have been increasingly platooning in left field (Smith is currently on the bereavement list). While the Mets do have personnel in place to weather Nimmo’s absence, losing one of their best hitters for even the minimum 10 days is obviously a major blow for an offensively-challenged team in the thick of a pennant race. The severity of the strain isn’t yet known, so it is possible that Nimmo’s 2021 campaign could be in jeopardy with only a month remaining of regular-season action.

Awful he’s my fav player and is super underrated
sampsonite168
This year was the 2nd time he eclipsed 200 ABs in 6 seasons. Dude is made of glass.
alc47
Hahaha dude what ? I’m not arguing he’s been injury prone recently but to mention 6 seasons is absurd. His first two seasons he was a bench player that spent a lot of time in the minors, His third season he was healthy, his fourth season he missed half the year, his fifth season he was healthy and this year he’s been hurt. So 2/6 years he’s had issues staying on the field not exactly made out of glass.
Mystery Team
He’s never played over 76 games except once and you can’t count 2020 because if it was a full season I’m sure he’d have spent half of it on the IL. He’s made of glass for sure. If there’s an injury to be had he’ll have it.
dugmet
Part-time player mist of his MLB career bruh.

Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Relax bro, he’ll be back for that all important Braves series. Should be a good one.

4th OF going forward or packaged in a trade this offseason. I like Nimmo but he’s made of glass.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Hey I’m a Braves fan – We will trade you Ozuna for Nimmo, some glass for an ass
MarlinsFanBase
If Ozuna comes back, you would seriously regret an Ozuna for Nimmo trade. You’d be trading an All Star caliber player who can post up MVP caliber seasons in any potential season for a guy that comes up to the plate hoping the pitcher doesn’t throw strikes to make him swing.
davidk1979
Nimmo’s an excellent hitter learn the game
MarlinsFanBase
I played the game into college dumash.
It called HITTING…not taking pitches hoping for a walk.
MarlinsFanBase
Little FYI you very likely don’t know about Sir Prays-For-Walks-A-Lot…since SNY and PIX would never allow for this to be mentioned on their broadcast with all the Mets Hyperbole.
On 3-2 counts (when the hitter knows he’s got to get something good or walks), Nimmo has 57 PAs. While he has walked 27 times on those, in the 30 ABs where he got a strike to end the PA, he struck out 15 times.
Yeah, “excellent hitter”!
davidk1979
Okay Al Bundt. Nimmo’s been a .300 hitter this year and 280 last year.
MarlinsFanBase
Wait, but I thought 60 games didn’t count? Or does it only count when it favors the Mets?
And he’s no longer a .300 hitter. Again, IL when his BA has dropped each time.
davidk1979
Wrong
MarlinsFanBase
Very clear statement. You’re good.

Wow. Marlinsfanbase played in college.

gonna have a nice ice cream sundae with the friggin cherry you picked right there bud
CalcetinesBlancos
Did Nimmo like sleep with your girlfriend or something?
Cosmo2
Drawing walks is a part of hitting. A very important part. AVOIDING OUTS is very important. Your continued assertions to the contrary are completely absurd.
Cosmo2
Nimmo is an excellent hitter. You are disagreeing with every expert and statistic when you state otherwise. You really need to join the modern era on this one, MarlinsFan
imissjoebuzas
Marlins fan base…. You either couldn’t hit a curve ball, catch up with a fastball, or had a batting eye good enough to get a walk to survive the competition. Sure, Nimmo isnt healthy all the time but neither is AJ Pollack. And he’s a lot healthier than the Marlins first round pick the same year.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Walk is as good as or better than a single. A walk could take 10 or more pitches. A single could happen on the first pitch. Put this into perspective

dodger1958
Ozuna (like Bauer) should never see an MLB field again except as a paying customer. Let’s see where the Braves moral compass lies.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
dodger1958, have you concluded a moral decision on Bauer? The law stands in the way of moral. Who knows what the law will decide on either of these players. For me personally, they both should be gone.
dodger1958
There is no question that Ozuna choked out his SO in a fit of rage. There is no way he didn’t violate the law according to the sworn statements of officers who saw him choking her out and slamming her against a wall. Not sure what you mean by the law stands in the way of moral. That makes no sense. MLB does require a conviction, under the CBA to suspend a player. And even if not convicted factually he violated the DV policy.
dodger1958
Not require a conviction. Opps.
bucsfan0004
MLB will suspend Bauer without pay for all of 2022. The Dodgers have done a lot to bloat the salaries of players, and that will be their gift from MLB with total agreement from the players union.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
You’re wrong dodger1958- The officers who supposedly saw Ozuna choking out his SO was dismissed for whatever reason. He’s back from a felony to a DV charge. The law can set you free of any charges because they don’t deal on a moral level. Baseball deals with a moral level, & can suspend a DV suspect for however long they choose. Neither Ozuna or Bauer belongs in baseball & their careers are probably over.
dodger1958
No curly you’re wrong. While the body cam footage did not reflect the circumstances which would justify enhances felony charges, they clearly showed a battery. He clearly engaged in DV. Whether he is, or is not, convicted of a crime has some or incomplete bearing on a suspension. Or whether he engaged in amoral misconduct. He clearly did. And if the Braves take him back it reflects poorly on them.
dodger1958
Bucsfan. Most larger market teams have done “a lot” to bloat salaries. Like the RSox, Yankees, Phillies. The Mets will too Probably the Giants. Even smaller market teams like San Diego. The Dodgers spend money because of the brilliant FO negotiating a local TV deal with an annual value of around $300,000,000. Not to mention, with a fan base who regularly trunks out to the tune of 3,000,000+ fans/year.
And most of the owners don’t like big spenders. Mangled is a toadie of ownership. Why would Manfred “reward” the Dodgers by helping them get out of next year’s salary? If the Dodgers were truly responsible for bloating salaries?
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
@dodger1958, What did I say above, it’s gone from a felony to a DV misdemeanor . Stop trying to make this different than what I said. The courts do not decide on moral decisions. MLB does.
dodger1958
Curly quit misquoting me. I didn’t try to make this any different that what you said, I said let’s see what Moral compass the Braves have. Fact. You interjected the law. Fact. Whether it is a felony or misdemeanor has no bearing on whether he engaged in an act of DV. Fact. Whether he is legally committed convicted or not (and I a good chance he “pleas” so he won’t receive a conviction) Fact. Whether he is convicted or not has no bearing on my statement about the moral compass of the Braves if the take him back. Fact. You tried to change the goalposts. Didn’t work. He shouldn’t ever play again for the Braves. Regardless of a conviction or not. If he does, it is a garbage move by the Braves. Period.
MarlinsFanBase
LOL. How naïve is someone when he thinks a team nicknamed the “Braves” has a moral compass.. If Ozuna can come back, he’ll be playing.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Ozuna won’t be back & you stink like the fish you are, how’s last place? You belong there.

Not good!
MetsFan22
I remember someone here thought Harold Ramirez was better than Nimmo lol.
MarlinsFanBase
Harold Ramirez is a better player. Don’t start celebrating Nimmo’s career year with the bat, in a partial season because he keeps going on the IL every time his BA starts coming down.
Also, not only is Ramirez a better player and hitter, he can actually stay on the field.
davidk1979
Ramirez keeps getting dumped but he’s better than Nimmo lulz
MarlinsFanBase
It isn’t about the talent. It’s clearly a personality issue.. Do keep up.
davidk1979
His stats suck too
MarlinsFanBase
Only if you’re selective about what you choose to value. Most followers of Mets Hyperbole TV tend to value what makes the Mets looks good. It’s amazing that you all are always shocked that the stats you’ve all been taught to value from that channel say you’re a good team, but the results don’t say that.
I guess Ramirez sucks compared to Nimmo if you ignore HR, RBI, career BA, and ignoring the eyeballs with baserunning, despite Nimmo actually being the faster of the two. I’m sure Mets Hyperbole TV has you all convinced that only the stats that Nimmo looks good in are the ones to pay attention to…until they need to talk about the other Mets players.
Cosmo2
RBIs are a team stat. Terrible for evaluating an individual players contribution. Again, join the modern era (not to mention logical understanding).

Reminds me of Dave Magaden. Good size good hitter but no power.
davidk1979
Nimmo has around a 450 career slugging percentage
MarlinsFanBase
But Magadan actually hit the ball well. Nimmo only takes pitches, hoping for a walk. For what it’s worth, Nimmo does have more pop than Magadan.
You ain’t building a team around either of them.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
That’s rich, the Marlins telling the Mets how to build a team. Metsfan22, where are you?

And shame on you for giving yourself a thumbs up in less than a minute.
MetsFan22
Nimmo would be your best position player lol. You probably think jazz is better lol
MarlinsFanBase
Nimmo sucks. How would a guy that can’t hit, can’t run the bases intelligently, plays bad defense be our best player? We run well, play good defense, and our guys actually can hit their way onto base. Don’t let Nimmo’s career year and coincidental trips to the IL during downward BA spirals fool you.
When it was a game.
I wouldn’t say he socks but definitely can find better outfielders out there. He gets on base. Yes very good at that but does nothing else like marlinfanbase states. He will never be an all star will never get mvp vote. He is a typical journeyman type outfielder. Borderline starter.
MarlinsFanBase
I can accept that assessment @Lee Mazzilli for HOF. What many Mets fans are being fooled by with Nimmo and the Mets, is that the reason Nimmo starts for the Mets has more to do with Alderson not wanting to acknowledge that he missed on that Draft when he selected Nimmo. Like many stubborn executives, when they mess up, they rather keep a guy playing and limiting a team for their own pride than what is in the team’s best interests. Nimmo is not a player that helps a team as a regular. He’s a platoon (at best) and more of a good guy to come off the bench. If he doesn’t progress, once the Mets move on from him, he’ll be struggling to stay in the league with a couple of years after his departure from NY.
When it was a game.
I agree that if he was not drafted in the first round…say 3rd or 4th he would not be in the majors. Only here because of draft position. But looking at it quick it really wasn’t the strongest draft class.
Cosmo2
Check out his OPS+. He is a very good starter on any team. You are living in the baseball stoneage.
Cosmo2
MarlinsFan, Your odd obsession with underselling Nimmo (and the idea of getting on base, you know, the most important thing you can do offensively) just gets weirder and weirder the more you defend it.
When it was a game.
It is very important but you need more. Home runs steals drive in runs exceptional defense score runs. He is a one Stat player and that doesn’t work if you are trying to field a championship team.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Metsfan22, the Marlins are 11 games behind you & they’re dissing you!
MarlinsFanBase
Ohhhh, you’re just trolling.
If you really want @MetsFan22 to come out to play, just say that the Mets are overrated – Nimmo sucks, Alonso is Dave Kingman 2.0, Syndergaard is the poster child for overrated pitchers, nothing has changed under Cohen, Ron Darling is the Mets Hyperbole maestro, Conforto isn’t close to Bryce Harper, Lindor was a mistake contract, JD Davis and Jeff McNeil are a DHs, Baez is Mr. All or Nothing, Stroman and Walker are typical mediocrity….
That should do it.
Oh, how could I forget…95 to 103 wins!
When it was a game.

I hope he recovers as fast as his doofy runs to first after getting walked.
MarlinsFanBase
I’m trying to figure if his doofy smile is the equivalent of what Luc Longley used to do for the Chicago Bulls after MJ, Scottie, Dennis and Kukoc did all the work…or if it is the equivalent of the last hitter on a rec league team that gets a walk, and the coach is yelling, “Good job little Johnnie! You helped the team by getting that walk. Now my good hitters can come up.”
Tough to figure out.

Seriously what is your deal against Nimmo? How do you defend your attitude against walks when it goes against what every expert believes?

Marlinsfanbase, your going nowhere, and maybe the Mets won’t either, but I can bet 75% off mlb teams would love a guy like Nimmo as their lead off, you just concentrate on losing and making stupid comments
VonPurpleHayes
I think he’s a great leadoff guy, but very injury prone.
Say Hey Now Kid
People are saying he’s made of glass. But Could the problem be that he overexerts himself? He sprints to everything in the outfield. Sprints to first, etc
VonPurpleHayes
I’ve made fun of him for sprinting to first after a walk, but the old-school attitude is actually a bir refreshing.
jim stem
If I’m not mistaken, the injury actually occurred when he slipped off the bag at third with both feet. It just didn’t tighten up until later in the game. Hopefully it’s just 10 days of ice and rest.

I think the funniest image of the year was when Freeman sprinted to 1b after a Nimmo walk and looked to the sky with him. Lol.

This is going to be a very interesting off season for the Mets.
Pillar and Villar have been huge parts in the Mets winning games, as has Loup.
Baez, drama notwithstanding, has been electric. But that would be another huge contract.
Conforto – one of my favorite players, but I can’t see the Mets giving him a 5 year deal. QO might benefit both the player and the team.
McNeil – 3b, 2b or OF? He hasn’t hit enough this year to warrant a starting job.
Davis – 3B has looked great at times but has missed many games.
Smith – looks like a very average player this year.
Alonso – he’s been the Mets most consistent hitter, has improved a great deal at 1b and has been the only batter with a clue against the shift. How does he respond to full time DH duties?
Catching – just like last year, we need an upgrade here. McCann has three more years to back up someone.
CF – still need an every day guy. Is it Nimmo? Pillar? I could roll with Pillar. This team is MUCH better when he’s in the lineup.
Villar – he’s looked like a gold glover and has most of our biggest hits. Mets need to retain him as he might be the best utility player in the game. 2b, 3b, ss, of.
Nido – sorry McCann, to me he is the best catcher on this team. They need to establish a pitcher/catcher rotation, 50/50 between the two.
deGrom – Hefner needs to get through to Jake that 32 starts are more important than 100mph. ***calling Greg Maddux*** “Hey, can you sit down and have a heart to heart with Jake? Yeah, we need to get him off his slider and pitching to contact, utilizing his change up more often. We can’t win with him just playing catch in the outfield for two months.”
Stroman – resign for 3 years with an option. He’s earned every penny.
Walker had pretty much been exactly as expected. He hit a wall at 110 innings, which even the average fan could have predicted. But he’s shown a grinding nature since then and has tapped into a reserve tank.
Diaz – he thrives on pressure. Rojas needs to STOP using him in non save situations. He’s been in 100% control mentally and emotionally this year. That alone is impressive in NY.
Hefner – have to give the pitching coach credit here. He has kept these guys on point and when they have flirted with falling apart, has gotten them balanced.
Hitting ‘coaches’ – good lord, can we PLEASE stop with stat binder as the primary tool? I don’t care how much data you have, a true hitting coach needs to be part psychologist, part technician and part mechanic. While these guys’ heads are buried in stats, they are missing key elements of coaching: physical slumps, mental battles, situational hitting attitude and adjusting for off speed pitchers who don’t throw 95. Want to know what’s wrong with binder batting? We make every rookie look like Cy Young because we have no data.
Training Staff/Injuries – at some point, this needs to be addressed. Something is horribly wrong with all these soft tissue injuries. Is it lack of pregame stretching or heating up the muscles? Too much weight training? Improper hydrating or rest?
Bottom line: this team COULD have run away and hidden in this division after they went 8 games up. Every team has had injuries, but not every team blew an 8 game lead in one month. If they get back to the top, it’ll be for two reasons:
The Benchmob. Pillar, Villar and the next man up attitude. These guys seem to be the only ones with the ‘86 ‘refuse to lose’ mentality.
Rojas had to know his team at this point and look past the binders. There’s just no way Lindor and Baez should have sat in game two Saturday. They wouldn’t have been taken out in an extra inning game, so why sit them after a 7 inning game 1? Rojas needs to get aggressive. There is NOTHING to play for after these last 25 games if we don’t finish first. Play the hot bats, stop sitting guys ‘because the binder says so.’
We face the Braves the last three games of the season. I’d really prefer to be 4 games up before that series.
When it was a game.
Excellent and to the point. The hitting coach part should be throughout baseball.
