The White Sox announced they’ve placed star right-hander Lance Lynn on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 29, due to right knee inflammation. Infielder Danny Mendick has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.
Lynn has consistently been an above-average starter over the past few seasons, but he’s taken his game to new heights in 2021. The veteran has gone 135 2/3 innings across 24 starts, pitching to a 2.59 ERA/3.79 SIERA with quality strikeout and walk rates (27.3% and 7.5%, respectively). He’s ninth in MLB in ERA (minimum 100 innings pitched) and looks to be among the top candidates in the American League Cy Young award race.
It doesn’t seem there’s much cause for alarm, as manager Tony La Russa told reporters (including Daryl von Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times) the expectation is that Lynn will only need to miss a single start. Assuming that proves to be the case, the Sox’s fortunes shouldn’t be much affected by his absence. Chicago has all but officially wrapped up the AL Central, entering play tonight holding a ten-game lead over the Indians.
Uh oh! We need Lynn.
If this opens up a spot for Lopez, the drop-off will be minimal.
All precautionary!
TLR gonna have the healthiest team in baseball come playoffs!
The Cardinals needed Lance Lynn too—- but let him go. They would have been a much better team over the past few years had they kept him through free agency.
He’ll recover quickly and be a horse for the White Sox in the playoffs!!
I hope you’re right. He’s our Ace.
I think it was that last pancake he had on top of that stack of pancakes he had for breakfast the other day is what did it.
Was this your idea of being funny? If so, very poor attempt indeed. I wonder if it made you feel better about yourself?
So someone who you don’t believe is funny gives you reason to be an id10t.
Maybe you should try spelling correctly before you call someone an idiot.
Seriously, whatever you were smoking when you made this comment Lee, I’m curious as to know what it is. Also curious as to how what I said made me an idiot.
Pete – Maybe u should change ur name!
First and last!
I decline your suggestion.
Do you know if Kopech might get a spot start, Mr. LaCock?
I have no idea, but I would think no, he hasn’t gotten any kind of starting work this year, to me that would be risky.
I highly doubt it. They will have Lopez fill in for him. And Lopez might take Keuchel’s place in the rotation once Lynn comes back.
Reylo will get the spot start(s). And why not? Dude has been prestine since getting called up. Been their most consistent reliever, and has pitched well enough to earn these starts.
Lopez will make Lynn’s missed start.
Kopech has started for the Sox this year. He was gassed by the fourth inning, however.
Your joke is bad and you should feel bad
Lynn will be fine. The Sox aren’t gonna get the best record anyway. Play it safe and get rest.
Maybe that explains him getting smoked the other day.
Nope. I too, think it was that last couple of pancakes.
No, Dogbone, it was the maple syrup he drenched the pancakes with that did him in. If you’re going to troll, get it right LOL.
Mendick should have enough frequent flyer miles this year for a trip to Jupiter.
I thought players only get 3 and sometimes 4 optioms…!!
Unlimited per year for three or four seasons (USUALLY 3)
Oh that makes sense. Thx!
3 option years during those option years can moved up and down multiple times
Useful rest to even skip 2 starts. If they play Astros in a 2/3 seed matchup, Lynn should actually be a game 3 starter despite his great season. Rodon owned Hou twice and Giolito has also matched up great against them.
Only thing hurt is his ego after a shellacking by a terrible Cubs team.
Lynn’s last outing was uncharacteristic of him, but every pitcher has a bad start or two.
Doesn’t change the fact he’s a Cy Young candidate, on a team that has the division locked up. He’ll be ready.
@louwhitakerisahof
Hopefully the Sox will have the division clinched by the time they face another terrible team in Detroit in the last couple weeks of the season. I wouldn’t want any of the SP’s egos to get hurt getting shellacked by that sad lineup.
Sox also have Keuchel as spot starter the rest of the way.
Uh, no. Keuchel is an instant loss. If he wasn’t getting paid so much, he’d be a good candidate to demote at this point. Dude is trashed.
Just stay away from the ice cream and donuts , they make you puffy . Lol
Rip Lynn
Overused by tony “dusty baker” larussa
What nonsense.
@citizen
Yes, those 136 IP has certainly burned him out.
It must make you wonder how pitchers were able to throw 250+ innings 30 years ago. They must’ve lobbed the ball underhand to the hitters back then, right?
The good thing with these nagging injuries (Lynn, Giolito, TA) is they are 10 games up with 29 to go against mostly powder puffs the rest of the way. Only the A’s (3 games), Boston (3 games), Cincy (2 games) are the only playoff potential teams left on the schedule. Depending on the day of the week, Cleveland is potentially the only other .500 team on the schedule (5 games).
I was hoping they would give Lynn a breather not long after Rodon came back. This wasn’t the circumstance I was hoping for, but if it’s in fact not serious and he misses only one start, this might work out better for him and the Sox.
I’m not a doctor, but from reading what Giolito said after the game, it doesn’t sound too serious (easy for me to say). With the off day and any luck, he might not even have to miss a start. Of course if it’s more serious than it sounds, then there’s some concern.
At this point, the main worry for the Sox (outside of a complete collapse in Sept) is staying healthy for the playoffs. TLR is playing it smart with TA. Get him fresh and back in the lineup in plenty of time for him to shake any rust off from the last several days he’s been given off.
