The Tigers have designated Ian Krol for assignment in order to make room for Jose Urena, who will come off the injured list tomorrow, per Evan Woodbery of MLive Media Group (via Twitter).
In 12 appearances, Krol has a 5.11 ERA/3.82 FIP covering 12 1/3 innings. Urena has been out since July 17th with a groin strain. The veteran right-hander posted a mostly unimpressive 80 innings of 6.19 ERA baseball through 17 starts. Nevertheless, Urena is scheduled to reclaim his spot in the rotation tomorrow.
Matthew Boyd is also returning to the Tigers this weekend to start Sunday’s game. Another roster move will be required to bring him onto the roster. Boyd hasn’t pitched since June 15th, but he’s a big piece of their rotation moving into next season.

Urena is cool, might not be good but seems like a cool guy, yk?
birdsfan415
nah remember when he threw at Acuña
bucsfan0004
The only reason this slob gets a job is because the Tigers are limiting the innings of Mize/Skubal.

Yes. In what became known as the battle of ñ

Any guy who throws at people on purpose is not “cool” they’re a coward. Fixed it for you

This might be the push the Tigers need to secure the second wildcard spot.

The Tigers will be good, sometime this decade? Maybe? Maybe? Not this year, but wild cards might be achievable in the near future.
They’d have better chance stealing the division from the White Sox than getting a second wild card from anyone.
The inflection of the might be in your typing reminded me of that scene in Donnie darko when the kids were watching grandma death after-school go to her mail box while drinking a pint and blowing off steam and they see her go back to the mail box and Donnie friend says “wait, we might still have mail.”

I happen to love that movie and get ultratrashed every 29th of February and watch it. You earned my begrudging thumbs up.

Apparently C.I. is willing to spend whatever it takes to win it all. Every year. My take? He ends up with Syndergaard, Rodon, Correa, an outfielder and 3 or 4 relievers. Now that’s a real owner. We’re still stuck with the lockout leader

That’s SOOOOO funny Steve! You are always SOOOOO funny! How witty!

Why do you keep coming back just to be the same loser ever time? What’s in it for you?

Alexander has done a constantly improving job, and is better suited to the rotation going forward than Urena. With Mize, Skubal and Manning already in the rotation, if both Boyd and Urena move to the rotation, also, that would move both Alexander and Peralta to the bullpen. Nice problem to have.
For Love of the Game
Yes, but Peralta is on the IL.
TheMichigan
Alexander has shown amazing potential as a starter, but I seriously think he can be a quality reliever.
Does he have a future in the rotation? I think anyone can play into any position they please. As for Alexander I would love to see him turn into our kinda Brent Suter type. Can start 10 games, and give you 30 or so in solid, long relief.
Alexander has the potential to a solid building block in a pen to support a future rotation of Mize, Skubal, Manning, Turnbull and maybe a ticket free agent signing/Faedo.
Definitely a good problem to have, I’m excited for this team for the first time in like 5 years 🙂
For Love of the Game
Dont forget Joey Wentz. Struggling a bit this year after Tommy John, but I think he’ll be solid next year.
Libpwnr
Alexander isn’t a starter, he doesn’t have the stuff for that. I know we got all drunk off the koolaid when he had that one amazing start, but after he was rewarded with more starts after that, he proved that he wasn’t cut out for it.

Better finally be Holland gone…
tigerfan4ever
Probably not. My guess would be someone like Del Pozo or Nivaldo Rodriguez. Who will hand out WWE belts to the player of the game if Holland were DFAd?
partyatnapolis
remember when the tigers held onto boyd when teams were willing to give up way too much to acquire him?
pinstripes17
Same thing they did with Michael Fulmer lmao
Hard to walk with four balls
lol no team was willing to give up a damn thing for him. You are crazy.
You’d be the worst GM if you thought that was true.
tigerdoc616
Yes, a roster move will be required to bring back Boyd, but they are under 40 on the 40 man right now, so it likely will be something as simple as sending someone to Toledo, not having to DFA anyone like they did to Krol. Could be an OF as they are playing with 5 OF right now.
