The Rangers and assistant general manager Shiraz Rehman have parted ways, the team announced. (Levi Weaver and Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic first reported the news shortly before the announcement).
“After discussions with Shiraz, we mutually agreed that it is best to part ways at this time,” president of baseball operations Jon Daniels said in a statement. “Shiraz has expressed a desire to seek a new opportunity where he can utilize his experiences and take on a more significant role than we currently have available. Since joining the Rangers, Shiraz played an important role in our process to shape the future of the franchise and ensure on-field success for the years ahead. The Rangers want to thank Shiraz for his contributions and wish him the very best for the future.”
Rehman had been with Texas since October 2018, coming over after five seasons as an assistant GM with the Cubs. Rehman was one of three AGM’s in Texas, pairing with Josh Boyd and Mike Daly as the top lieutenants for Daniels and general manager Chris Young.
Young was hired as GM last December, which Rehman indicated likely played some role in today’s decision. “I’m extremely grateful to ownership — Ray Davis and Neil Leibman — and baseball leadership – Jon Daniels, Chris Young and Chris Woodward — for the opportunity to work for the Rangers organization, and have enjoyed my 3 years with the team. … Ultimately, the redistribution of front office responsibilities after (Young) came aboard this winter left me with a less fulfilling and impactful role, so we agreed to part ways at this time,” Rehman told Weaver, who hears from others in the organization that Rehman was dismissed as opposed to stepping away as part of a mutual decision. “I am looking forward to my next challenge and wish the entire front office, the coaches, the players, and Rangers fans all the best in the future.”
Interestingly, Weaver reports that the Rangers and Mets have spoken with Reds’ director of pitching Kyle Boddy about a potential position for next season, although he hears that those discussions are unrelated to the team’s parting ways with Rehman. Boddy’s contract with Cincinnati expires at the end of the year, according to Weaver.
Boddy rose to prominence as the founder of Driveline Baseball, an independent data-driven training facility that counts numerous MLB pitchers among its clients. Weaver notes that Young worked out at Driveline during his days as a player, and Boddy consulted with the Rangers on their 2018 amateur draft, so he’s surely familiar with the top decision-makers in the Texas front office.

Some organizations will grab him quickly.

Rehman seems like an obvious candidate for the Mets job if they don’t keep Scott in the GM role.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
I’m a fan of Rehman noodles, although a little high in msg.

They’re not the only thing that’s a little high…

True.
The Stooges’s popularity is also fairly high.

Sorry folks, things have been a little dry since the final trade day. Releases, claims, minor signings, & of course the multitude of injuries are the only tidbits that keep me going. I’m a victim of circumstance
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Shiraz as I’m sitting here, he’ll get another job.
(I couldn’t resist)

Back to back al pennants in 2010 and 2011 seems to have bought Daniels 10 years of latitude to start over , guessing next season after a decade is where his teams have to show something or it’s time to start considering some things !
Yep it is
Daniels is the worst GM in all of baseball. The team in 2010-2011 wasn’t of his building. How he keeps his job is unbelievable
Noel1982
Yes but right or wrong fair or not when good things happen the guys In charge get all the credit and built up leeway! To his owner all he sees is a gm who once lead his team to back to back World Series without context ! The smarter teams see right through that which is why giants and Red Sox to name a few moved on from World Series ( not pennant but World Series winning ) executives after a few down years
Noel1982
Also Gotta say guys like Daniels , peller , Dipoto an also maybe possibly Hazen have some charm and charisma to convince their owners an many fans that despite clear shaky overall results to date a future powerhouse is around the corner with just a lil more time !

Can’t discount
charisma!

For real got out there in front of the owners or local media looking young fly with the locks flowing talking like you’re the smartest man alive and are playing chess while the competition is playing checkers and it might buy you some time !
justinkm19
He made the trade that built it all. Then added Hamilton and Beltre. You couldn’t be more wrong.
Noel1982
That was a long time ago esp the Tex trade, also not exactly discrediting him for the two pennants just stating that’s bought him a long long long benefit of the doubt ! When Does the current plan even project wild card contention for them ?

I mean we won the division 5 years ago. I am no real JD fan but he built a winner once, and he is the most successful GM in franchise history by a longshot. He has some leash left. I actually like the current direction of the team.
Ya'll a bunch of salty crybabies
Someone has to be the fall guy!
iang2424
This has nothing to do with fall guy. Literally said he saw the writing on the wall of the organization going a different direction and realized in order for him to take the next career step he needed to leave the organization.

Lee Majors was, is, and always will be The Fall Guy.

Maybe they’re going to go for a Petite Shiraz.

The Cubs.. Right now they currently have a vacant seat at the GM role this yr when Theo left and they promoted Hoyer

Cubes seem like the obvious choice for sure.

Cold bro. Just cold.

I wouldn’t expect a rush from other teams after he got canned in the middle of the season. If they were really wanting to give him the graceful exit, they would have waited til the season ended. Must have pithed somebody off.

Jon Daniels has no idea how to value talent, either his own, other team’s players or and especially amateur talent. No GM is worse at drafting or signing amateur talent. He’s presided over 15 drafts and has drafted maybe 10 players in all that time who have even become serviceable major league players and does not have one international amateur signing that ever made a long-term significant impact in the majors. His first trade showed me what an absolute moron he is, that being Adrian Gonzalez for Adam Eaton, a pitcher who was at his best exceedingly mediocre, most of the time outright terrible, was near 30 at the time with no contract beyond the season in which he was acquired. Gonzalez, however, went on to become one of the best first baseman in baseball during his era and was a ready made, 23 year old on minimum salary with a full 6 years of team control. This latest trade further shows what an imbecile he is, trading the most versatile power hitter in the game for a bunch of middle tier worthless prospects from a middle tier farm system. He always over pays for other team’s players, like he did for Cole Hamels and Jonathan Lucroy, and always trades his own talent for pennies on the dollar, see the aforementioned Gonzalez trade, Alfonso Soriano for Brad Wilkerson and this latest Gallo trade disaster. He has one good trade on his resume, the Texeira trade. Nolan Ryan was really calling the shots beginning in 2009, which coincidentally is when all the idiotic moves stopped, and as soon as Nolan left the moronic moves immediately started again. Way overpaying for Shin-Soo Choi and hiring an inept career minor leaguer for a manager in Jeff Banister instead of a proven winner like Dusty Baker. The man is a gold platinum certified baseball moron. A hardcore 12 year old fan of baseball could do a better job running a major league organization than he can. I wouldn’t hire this imbecile to manage a 7-11.
