Hilarious there’s already questions about dumping Lindor’s salary with a top prospect, better than the one they gave up for the rental of the same guy giving the thumbs-down to fans for not being grateful for his 82 OPS+ since joining the team.
LordD99
His 10/340 contract hasn’t even started yet. First season of the new deal is 2022. Fans are declaring it an albatross before year one. Has that ever happened. Maybe Ryan Howard’s extension? Lindor will be better, but his offense probably was helped by a more juiced ball, and he showed some decline his last year in Cleveland. Add in defense is a going man’s game and it’s not too hard to see this deal really turning south within five years.
Question is, why did the Mets sign it? See how Lindor plays, let the market establish his rate, and Cohen can outbid anyone and still have paid less. He’d have multiple SS options too this offseason.
marcfrombrooklyn
Steve Cohen made noise about the Mets becoming something of an East Coast Dodgers rather than a Queens Yankees so they pulled the trigger on a Betts-like long-term-deal-after-a-trade with Lindor. It’s probably more a matter of circumstance/opportunity than really wanting to do what the Dodgers did. I’m not happy with the Lindor contact but, historically speaking, the Beltran deal looked pretty bad after his first year.
Noel1982
Fact is if Mets had just let lindor play out his contract they would have gotten him a lot cheaper but not before seeing if they could sign seager or Correa first
LordD99
Yes. Cohen was bidding against himself. Now the free agent SS’s this offseason will want more than Lindor. They won’t get it. That will probably paralyze the market for a bit until the agents realize none of their guys are Tatis and the Lindor deal was probably a $110M overpay.

What questions???? Cmon man….
Joe It All
Read the flipping chat and there is literally a question in there about what the OP said.
tstats
Why would metsfan22 use logic?
MetsFan22
The Mets players are just frustrated that a team clearly worst than them…(Braves) will win the division. Bc of luck and injuries… it happens. Frustration boils.
tstats
I cant even describe the pure stupidity in this post
DarkSide830
manic take
Joe It All
The Mets players aren’t frustrated. You’re the one who is frustrated. They’re still getting paid so they don’t care as much as you think they do.
bhambrave
The Braves do have better luck. They’ve got Alex Anthopoulos. They could have gotten someone like Jared Porter or Zack Scott.
MetsFan22
Braves fans going to be shocked when acuna comes back with less power and Soroka era is 5??
DarkSide830
i would be, because its darn unlikely to happen.
Noel1982
What’s his take gonna be when a healthy Lindor never ( wait for it , his favorite stat ) produces a war of 3 or more ever again ! Lol
Noel1982
Also was convinced they where gonna get kris Bryant but now I’m convinced they won’t get him or keep baez ! Bryant will now be joining his boy Harper in Philly for better or worse for a whole lot of coin
DarkSide830
he’ll probably double that next year tbf
Noel1982
Lol no chance he produces a 6 war or better again ! Without the juiced balls he’s like his teammate Jeff McNeil a couple of slapstick hitters in the Adam Frazier mode ! His range is also declining! Indians didn’t get much for Lindor but they won by not paying for his decline
1984wasntamanual
I wouldn’t be shocked if Acuna came back with less power, at least for a bit.
I think Lindor will probably top a 3 WAR pretty easily. He’s @ 1.7 this year and he’s not actually THIS bad. The days of 6-7 (probably 5 as well) are gone, but he’s still going to be a decent player that’s getting paid 10m+ more than he should be/ yr going forward.
MetsFan22
Acuna is done. And Soroka is the new Harvey.. it’s going to happen. Acuna will probably still do good but he won’t be anything special.
Noel1982
Lindor from here on out is gonna be the kinda player Padres thought they where getting in Adam Frazier lol
bhambrave
@Metsfan22:
When David Wright was out, I was rooting for him to come back strong. You’re hoping Acuna is diminished. What’s wrong with you?
tstats
Wait Noel that would be a good thing the Padres expected a .300 hitter, lindor will be .280
DarkSide830
based on…?
MetsFan22
I’m not hoping anything. I just know baseball. He ain’t coming back the same.
Joe It All
Your takes on how good the Mets are show you obviously don’t know baseball. 99.9% of the commenters on this site will bet on Acuna over one of your takes.
tstats
Acuna will be fine might lose speed but honestly might gain power
bhambrave
You lost me at “I just know baseball.”
DarkSide830
Roman Quinn has had several Major ankle injuries and has yet to lose speed. i dont think anything is a given as far as the speed thing goes.

MetsFan22:
Acuna is done? Wishful thinking. He won’t be 24 until December. For some, there’s even an increase in range of motion after ACL surgery.
MLB players have the highest success rate returning from ACL surgery than any other sport. The biggest issue is the injury was to his back leg, but there’s no reason to think he won’t be productive. The Braves may want to not play him in CF anymore, but he’s hardly “done”.
Andrew McCutchen blew his knee out, and had ACL surgery when he was 16 years old. He’s had a 13 year MLB career, was an MVP, a 4 time silver slugger, has almost 200 SBs, and 49 3Bs.
Kyle Schwarber’s first year back after ACL wasn’t that good, but since then he’s posted an .848 OPS.
Adam Eaton, at age 29, came back from an ACL, and in his first year back, put up a .301/.394/.411 slash line, with an .805 OPS. And he’s no Ronald Acuna Jr.
bhambrave
Chipper Jones tore his ACL his rookie year. He turned out ok.
RunDMC
Soroka with a 5 ERA will still have more wins than deGrom with a 1 ERA.
tstats
Painfully true
BobGibsonFan
Acuna is going to pull a Michael Conforto? Soroka a David Peterson?

Metsfan22 has nothing left for this season but trolling the Braves’ fans. I’d like to say it’s sad, but it’s just funny.
FredMcGriff for the HOF
@bham. MF always gives me a good laugh. My guess is this individual is most likely a teenager.

August Martin High School, Class of ‘22.
StupendousYappi
I see a lot of comments about Lindor. Lets face it when players sign big deals with the mets they usually go into the tank (other then beltran). If Lindor would have signed with a class organization like the Yankees this wouldnt be a problem. If I was Cashman I would try to get Lindor for pennies on the dollar and let him embarrass the Mets at every chance.
MetsFan22
Lol how is the Stanton contract
MetsFan22
I also hope you guys give judge a huge contact. He’ll break down by 30
tstats
Who signed stanton, sure they traded for him but c’mon the Marlins signed this deal iirc
RunDMC
Yes, NYY just lost their 14-game winning streak and Stanton on fire with a 133 OPS+/season, while Lindor – your big contract in the midst of career-lows (per OPS+) – but good timing trying to rib Yankee fans on that horrible Stanton contract where they didn’t even give up top prospects.
1984wasntamanual
Stanton has been on fire recently, but a 133 OPS+ is below his career and recent averages, so describing that as on fire, doesn’t seem accurate to me. He does have a 180 wRC+ in August, that’s awesome and a good sign for the yankees, but let’s not over rate his season numbers as a whole, it takes away from the overall point you’re trying to make. He’s been relatively healthy too, which is also a great sign for him/the Yankees.
DarkSide830
projecting…
bhambrave
Lindor is getting $43.3M this year.
Phanatic 2022
Not on salary alone he’s not
bhambrave
Salary and signing bonus. It’s still 43.3.
BobGibsonFan
Castellanos? He’s unplayable in the field, remember?
